unfortunately i already noticed the character shadow floating on one of the buildings with no terrain shadow under it in the video. i hope they will have proper terrain shadows on buildings on final release.

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
PeterBitt replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
i was kinda drunk yesterday when i posted here, normaly i dont feel that upset by those helpers - arma is just a game, my favorite game but its just a game. i will just accept that i can not play arma on public servers anymore, even if its the only game i ever wanted to play online :( and NO, i dont want to join clans or buy a own server, but fortunately i can play the game as i wish in singleplayer or LAN (yes mates here your "option to disable it" argument realy works!) and the awesome editor will be implemented too. my 2 player lan sessions will still be with highest difficulty settings; even my mate who is playing the series only scince arma2 had never used that stuff too. for him the main attraction was the fact that he got killed all the time without seeing anything and was actualy challenged to master the game ... unfortunatelly not many players want to be challenged by a game nowadays. selfish as iam, i cant see anything good in attracting those COD kids with these features. arma calls itself a simulation and should get deeper and more complex with every sequel, not "more accessable" ... ... "more accessable" was the sentence of death to all my favorite games (elder scrolls, deus ex, thief, gothic)). -

aint you guys with the 1000+ posts are actualy good at playing arma? do you realy need those helpers to come along in this game? just think back to old OFP days, did you ever felt the need for colored circles to highlight your enemy or even direction indicators wich show the direction you get fire from? those helpers belong to the very lowest difficulty setting and be disabled for veteran (god damned this mode is called VETERAN!). they are helpful for new players, no doubt, but so many players use it even if they have the skill to not use it, just because it makes life easier. if you actualy had to select the noob mode to have these features, iam sure you will think twice. because thats what it is - features for new players. (iam talking about fire direction indicator, crosshair, 3rd person, enemy indicator, map markers) thanks carlgustaffa for validating this -
this sounds great where will you post more infos? here or different thread? i dont want to miss that.

disgusting how you just insult everyone with different opinions who dont just say "yes and amen" to everything BIS is doing. we "realism crowds" state our opinion here (mostly) reasonable and objective whilst you fanboys just say shit like "dont buy it", "it can be disabled", "go buy your own server and set it up as you wish" ... 3rd person view thread comes to mind :j: you want to tell us that we have no chance to play the game properly without crosshair, 3rd person view, advanced map and onscreen markers, bullet indicators and stuff like that and i say i DONT need this! -
these are grass-vision-goggles, in arma 3 the AI will see through vegitation for a reason!
-
is this confirmed or just guessing?
-
woore is right, the 3rd person users seriously lack good arguments for keeping it in a game like ArmA series, whilst there are now dozens of good facts to not use it on this thread. i just hope that some of the comments here got the attention of the devs and make them think a little bit about it. at least consider to remove it from veteran mode
-
read: i havent TRACKIR but i use my mouse for it. ive set free headmovement to my spacebar and have my thumb always on it, i use it excessivly and never thought that iam missing any situational awareness - no its even the opposite: with the feature to move my head independently form my body i have MUCH more situational awareness than in any other ego shooter. no question that FOV settings would be a awesome feature, but even with the arma 2 FOV you can easily play without 3rd - if you are a average ArmA or FPS player.
-
as its unfortunately quite sure that BIS will not remove 3rd (with the hope to please some of the casual gamers) i think that having it off by default is something they should seriously consider. remove it cadett mode, only enable it for rookie mode and i think we would see much less players using it. because that is just what 3rd person is - a rookie feature for unexperienced players to learn to fight against AI. iam quite sure that iam not the only one who can handle the AI opponents in 1st person ... ok sometimes they see me through the grass, but shouldnt BIS rather fix AI vision than giving the players a cheat to conter it? peripheral vision? guys, we have TRACKIR in this game! dont be lazy and move your head (or mouse) a little bit and you will have just as good situational awareness as in real life! did you miss the "so much important" 3rd person in the battlefield games? did you never had situational awareness and never saw the enemies that owned you? here is my tip for you: dont play shooters.
-
unfortunately the server admins do, and its not few of them. ok I must not use it, i can just let myself get owned by people that magicaly know exactly where iam whilst i have no clou that they are even there. "dont use it if you dont like it" people use implemented features because they are implemented! see the many youtube videos with 3rd person view even in the clan videos, and the many many servers with it enabled. but if it wasnt implemented in the first place (since OFP), no one would have ever asked for it! apart from the (indiscussable) negative affect on gameplay, its a major immersion and atmosphere killer in my eyes. you just leave your skin and look over your own shoulder and there is no way to actualy feel like its YOU there on the battlefield but just one bot that you control. skyrim and the new deus ex also did epic fail with the takedowns or cover systems that will always switch you in 3rd person view even if you play in first person - look at the FarCry 3 videos you bums, thats immersion!
-
yep, best improvement for 3rd person view indeed is to get rid of it. now that we have RTT mirrors (and hopefully completely modeled interiors of vehicles) i dont even want this for vehicles. ... dont even want it for arma 2, its so bad how many servers have this arcarde feature enabled :( 3rd person view = imersion killer and cheatmode.

ArmA3 Interview with Ivan Buchta by nordrassilradio
PeterBitt replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
my english isnt the best, i wanted to say that i dont want content that isnt using the new engine features but should have them. for example the arma 2 units that cant use backpacks and are completely white in thermal vision. BIS havent even updated arma 2 content to OA standart so i cant imagine them doing the ArmA 2 and 1 and oFP content properly, but for sure this would be great! but if you can for example undress the arma3 units to their underpants and cant do this with the ported arma2 units, i would not like to have them. -
ArmA3 Interview with Ivan Buchta by nordrassilradio
PeterBitt replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
this would mean that some units will have thermal texures others not, some units can change gear others not, some weapons can be customised some not, some vehicles have gears and good phisix others not, some aircraft have countermeasure others not, and so on. i prefer only arma3 content in the game because iam a purist and want the same features and quality for all units in the game. not such bad inconsistence like with arma 2 and arrowhead units (thermal textures, weapon zeroing, ...). iam definitely in the "less quantity more quality camp" ;) -
ArmA3 Interview with Ivan Buchta by nordrassilradio
PeterBitt replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
he said "engines of vehicles will now have the correct shifting. the sound should reflect it". sounds to me like the cars have gears and the propper sound will be added too, but english isnt my main language so i might be mistaken? edit: iam sure they will have automatic gears, but it will feel alot better when driving a hill in first gear with propper sound. i still hope for option for manual shifting too! -

PeterBitt replied to jerryhopper's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
the cars will have gears he said! hopefully you can select manual shifting too ... and force feedback for steering wheels and i need no racing games anymore. -
awesome pics ... AWESOME! i will buy the most powerfull computer ever build in 2012, i need to enjoy this on max settings (for the first time in arma series). seriously i can not wait to get my hands on this :butbut: edit: so few comments on this? i think those sticky threads are missed very easy, especialy when you hide them (like i usualy do)
-
yay this pic is representative for the summer we have here in central europe this year :o only the constant rain is missing. thinking about rain ... pliiiieeees give us true particle effect rain + rain collisions! you cant even imagine how awesome the atmosphere would be in a great battle with these dark clouds and propper rain, in arma 2 i mostly only play on clear day because i dont get in the right mood with that overlay rain. why is propper rain so rare in video games at all? i remember gothic 1 already had very atmospheric rain + collisions, so it cant have bad performance as reason. no need to say that maddox idea would be just mind blowing

Community driven Bug&Issue Tracker (CIT) for ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead and ARMA 2
PeterBitt replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
i think we can quite happy that arma2 is getting still patched after this long time scince release, cant think of many (non indie) developers with that suppport. suma, you want good repro missions for the bugs? please look into these :p http://dev-heaven.net/issues/18075 http://dev-heaven.net/issues/18118 dont got many votes with them, but it is annoying me every single time when i use my goggles or scopes with crosshair floating activated -
why do you look at her cleavage all the time you horny tard? hey im just checking my health! but seriously there was much potential this game had, but unfortunately you cant do much but collect weapons, throw stuff on other stuff and kill dinosaurs ... to bad that there are always those stupid publishers with their release dates :(
-
this idea reminds me on Trespasser where i found the shooting pretty much fun with all the directions you could turn your weapon hand. even phat gangsta pistol handling was possible with the weapon turned for 90 degrees. but i guess in the heat of a firefight one would realy hate this feature...

Render to texture - what are the possibilities?
PeterBitt replied to MoS's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
this sounds good! this sounds even better :D this will offer great possibilitys for the modders for sure! but maybe BIS will find more usage for this too, i mean mirrors are cool but RTT scopes and displays will make the game soooo much better. -
some ingame implementation in the profile menu would be cool tough. ... hmm maybe we would see a lot of stupid stuff too like zombie faces running around the battlefield too :(

Render to texture - what are the possibilities?
PeterBitt replied to MoS's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
iam convinced now ... they must (please) implement RTT  something like the doom 3 RTT (and controls) for displays inside of a tank, so that for example the loader has a display for switching ammo and review tank status, a UAV conected display for the commander ... this way you could have nice and immersive tank gameplay from inside without the use of the actionmenu and hud! question: do RTT displays wich just show 2D graphics and texts like menus or something, affect performance as much as RTT cameras with the whole world displayed a second time? ok bis is planning a whole lot of features for arma 3, but RTT must find its way into arma 3 ... if they have no time to use it properly in their models, just let the comunity take care of :) -
Community Feedback Thread - TOH:CP
PeterBitt replied to OChristie's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - COMMUNITY PREVIEW
this is so much fun! thanks for letting us test this BI! suggestion: now that you can open the doors of the heli, you should definitely allow get into the vehicle only when the door is open. this way it would be a very cool gameplay feature instead of a just visual feature.
