It's like they don't want us to buy their game. Even MoH had a server browser. -
Probably CWR2. I admit I never played the original Flashpoint but CWR seems to capture its mood well. I understand why people loved the original game so much. Also CAA1. Sahrani is just so awesome.

[] exec "script.sqs"
rangerpl replied to eymerich's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I'm pretty new to scripting and I never learned SQS. I got started with SQF because that's what nearly all scripts are written in nowadays (I am aware that some people like Celery still release SQS scripts) but it made more sense and I found it easier to understand because its syntax resembled that of C, which is what I learned in school. -
It calls in strikes on where your character is looking at in the game world, not on the map.

CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."
rangerpl replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
DR could've stood up on its own as a fairly average game if it didn't have the Operation Flashpoint name. It attracted so much hatred from BIS fans because it was such an obvious attempt to try and ride on the success of OFP:CWC by claiming to be a sequel. -
Here are some videos (edited to some extent) from private games with my friends. Yes we're noobs. aTguXQV2cw8 dFOHSg0PlKc WNjXT3d3H5E lbfGH7cCnxc

That must be some good shit he's smoking because Caspian Border sure as hell isn't the size of El Alamein. That may have been just the console version of the map or something. Look at the Russian airfield. The runway gets cut off by the off-map area! I also hope they have the BF2 flight model instead of that BC2 shit. I want to fly with my joystick. -

Design Discussion -- Movement and keybindings
rangerpl replied to nkenny's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
How about keeping things simple: Scroll wheel -> Action menu Ctrl + Scroll wheel -> Select weapon (such as grenades, smoke, etc), use binoculars, use NVG, use map, use GPS. This will free up the B, N and M keys for other uses. The functionality of the Vault key should also be expanded. You should have the option to use it to try and climb over higher walls (at the cost of stamina) and climb through windows, etc. -
Module graphics settings for Arma 3 Vote please
rangerpl replied to Flash Thunder's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'd like to see some more settings for PP effects. Some are good but there are others like bloom that just make me sick. -

Yeah I was turned away from the Alpha. I guess 400+ hours playing BF1942 and another 400 playing BF2 don't qualify me as enough of a veteran. -

Really? That's a Bad Company 2 sized map. Just look at that. I'm disappointed. No wonder they made the jets so slow, otherwise they'd just be flying in circles. -

Exactly. ArmA comes down to luck and skill, and it's very easy for a skilled player with inferior weapons to outperform a mediocre player. -

I already said on here that BIS should cancel ArmA 3 and sell people bricks instead. After all, bricks are guaranteed to be stable at release. -
Anti-Aliasing, how important is it for you?
rangerpl replied to nikiforos's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I don't mind jaggies, but looking at things like fences, antennas and other fine details makes my eyes bleed if I don't have AA enabled. I currently use Medium AA as well as FXAA (shader based AA which makes things even smoother). -

My rant is about the fact that games have been dumbed down to the point that they require no skill. The first online FPS I played was Delta Force Black Hawk Down (mind you I was 10 at the time), and even that game required skill from players. Now in Call of Duty and other mainstream shooters, the outcome can often come down to who has more perks unlocked and what weapon he's using. That wasn't the case in the past. Also back then there were fewer assholes and screaming kids. -

Great attitude! If you expect a dog to bite you, you'll be happy if he takes a shit on the carpet! :bounce3: -
F/A 18 will be added ? maybe Su 37 too ?
rangerpl replied to On_Sabbatical's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
ArmA is not an air combat simulation game, the aircraft that are in the game are there primarily for Close Air Support. In fact ArmA 1 didn't even feature planes like the F-35. Dogfights between the high-tier jets are very rare. -
But BIS has been nice to us and never took features away to increase profits. I don't think it would be fair or correct to assume that they do this to increase VBS2 sales. Also remember that a VBS2 license costs a lot more than an ArmA2 license. The cost, if I'm not mistaken, is into the hundreds of dollars since it's a commercial application. You can't possibly be saying that the US military pays hundreds more for VBS2 just because you can shoot out of vehicles. I can't be sure but this might have been confirmed for A3.

You can set AToC to 6. That will disable it for grass but enable it for trees/bushes. Further reading here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/arma2.cfg#Example And as far as I remember, the glowy thing disappears at close range. I can't be sure though, i've had AToC turned off for a while.

Well, the 8600 was a GPU that could barely run this game. If you have a recent GPU and you still lag, it's time to look at the CPU, RAM, etc.
-
That's true, but even S-400 has its weaknesses. The USAF isn't stupid, they wouldn't send their fighters on a suicide attack towards S-400-defended areas.
-
No, because the TOS of ArmA2 explicitly forbids the use of the game for military training purposes.
