I find the current WW4 binoculars very useful. I agree with Anguis.

Hi =SappeR=, Thanks for all your hard work on these! :) I had a hard time figuring out how to download them because the gamepark link says "file unavailable" & the narod.ru download page is a bit tricky because by default it has the checkbox selected for installing their toolbar/helper app - oh & the CAPTCHA doesn't work when the page is translated through google. Let me know if you want this file mirrored. Also, the links to your pictures all show 403 Forbidden. ---------- Post added at 09:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 PM ---------- I got a chance to install & try these out this evening :) The resistance versions look really cool. Thanks for not spray painting the "FIA" logo on them :D I'm looking forward to your future releases - keep up the good work!

Thanks for the example Sanctuary. The BI Wiki refers to the preprocessFile entry as being introduced in OFP 1.85. At the bottom of the page, the "See Also" links point to the PreProcessor Commands entry which does not explicitly list a program version but it is listed under: Categories: Operation Flashpoint: Editing | ArmA: Addon Configuration | Scripting Topics ---------- Post added at 12:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 AM ---------- I also found the discussion in this old (2006) thread useful in understanding preprocessing in OFP: Discussion on editing CPP's and getting your work from o2 to ofp http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=47147

@Zulu1: Thanks for the link. I guess I should have put this part a bit higher in my post: If nobody has anything currently under construction I thought I would start working on something from scratch.

Thanks Faguss. Are there any detailed examples that could be included with a description of the benefits gained by using the PreProcessor? The Bohemia Interactive Community Wiki also has some OFP specific PreProcessor reference documentation: preprocessFile: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/preprocessFile PreProcessor Commands: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/PreProcessor_Commands PreProcessor Errors: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/PreProcessor_Errors

I did some playing around with Blender this evening & I found the following useful links for starting a model based on a photo or other 2D image(s): Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/Modeling a Fox from Guide Images http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/Creating_Models_With_Photo_Assistance Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/2D Image (logo) to a 3D Model http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro/2D_Image_%28logo%29_to_a_3D_Model These helped fill in some details that were not apparent in the Barret .50 cal video tutorials.

I was wondering if anyone was working on a detailed FN SCAR addon for OFP? I was thinking of something highly detailed similar to STGN's impressive SOPMOD M4A1 addon which either contains a lot of variants or allows for modularity (optics/barrels/stocks /suppressors etc). I really like the look & variety of the SCARs in ArmA2:OA & it would be great to have something similar in good old OFP - http://www.arma2.com/arma-2-oa-weaponry/a-2-oa-assault-rifles_en.html The variants include sniper & LMG/HMG SCARs. I know we have the BlackBlood/WW4 SCARs & Sgt_Eversmann SF Weaponpack V1.0 but I wanted to know if anyone is working on anything similar.

@Sanctuary: your ogre animation was impressive & your animations look very natural. The dancer/martial artist movie was very fluid & hypnotic ;) I'm slowly making my way through brsserb's O2 tutorials which are a huge help in navigating the program. I've read through them several times but I keep needing to go back to them for reference. Speaking of brsserb's tutorials, I found a blender video tutorial which is very similar to his "Lesson 3 - Making your first weapon". The person who made the blender tutorial is able to produce a rifle model in less than 30 minutes from a 2D template image: Blender beginner tutorial. How to make a barrett .50 cal Part 2: Part 3: @Macser: thanks for the info!

Hi Sanctuary, I am amazed by the amount of work that both you & Vektorboson have put into making these blender resources available. The PDF looks great & is a lot easier to follow than forum posts. As both a 3D modelling software & addon making novice I wanted to ask you some questions about O2 & Blender: * Is it better to invest my time to learn a lot about O2 & then move to Blender? * Should Blender be used to do the majority of the modelling with O2 used for the OFP specific tasks that Blender cannot accomplish? I am finding that the learning curve for O2 is steep, mainly due to translation issues & the lack of context sensitive help which requires constantly referring to notes & other documentation. Blender also seems like it will take a considerable amount of time to learn the basics. In your experience, what would be the best starting point & what would be the most efficient use of my time?

Fighting vehicles & aircraft haven't changed that much over the past few decades. If you look at the list of vehicles in ArmA 2: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_2:_Vehicles & it's expansions: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_2_OA:_Vehicles there's not a lot there that doesn't already exist in the OFP addon library :) Most vehicle changes have been modifications to existing platforms (up-armoring, weapons & sensor improvements). Perhaps it would be easier to optimize or update existing vehicles if nothing suitable currently exists or if the current addon does not fit well in with the WW4 mod? IMHO, considering the near future WW4 scenario & the strengths of the OFP engine: *Technicals (armored pickups & SUVs) *Desert Patrol Vechicles/HTTVs *Quads/ATVs/Buggies *Horses (yes, horses)/Mules *Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/Armed Drones *Motorcycles are vehicles that might fit in.

Here is a short list of "free" 3D resources of various types/formats that I found while researching possible addons. I'm not sure how useful these will be or how easy it is to convert them for use in O2 but they might be useful to someone. US Naval Postgraduate School http://nps.edu/ Savage X3D Examples Archive: https://savage.nps.edu/Savage/ ***NOTE: site is HTTPS only (for some reason) & seems to use an invalid ssl cert (according to chrome). The site has X3D download links and can use browser plugins to preview models online. Apparently, Blender can handle X3D files. Again, I don't know how useful these models will be but they might be a starting point for someone :) -
It would be useful to have a list of adddons that explicitly provide permission to use their content. This would make it easier for aspiring addon makers to find content they know can be used as an inspiration or base for their new creations. Also, "Permission Free" does not mean "Credit Free" Some examples of "Permission Free" addons that I know of are: * BIS Models * Sanctuary's WW4 mod * Mehanic's vehicles * MAS AH-64A/D Apache Longbow (1.33) Currently, I think the only way to find this information is to parse the readme files of addons to see what the creator's wishes are regarding content reuse. This can be time consuming and inconsistent terms are often used so crawling readme files is not straight-forward. I think it would be a big time-saver and encourage the creation of new addons. ***DISCLAIMER*** Time is valuable - both yours and the addon makers that have come before you. Please take the time to thoroughly read all licenses, readmes and documentation that accompany the addon that you wish to use components from. Be aware of any restrictions on both redistribution AND content reuse. Unfortunately, if the addon you would like to use does not come with any documentation or does not explicitly allow for "Permission Free"/Open Source/Public Domain reuse of assets, the only way to respect the author's wishes is to contact them directly and ask permission. ***DISCLAIMER***

I have added a disclaimer (to the best of my ability) to the first post. I tried not to make it too verbose so it will encourage people to read it. As far as I am aware, there is no "Orphaned Projects" thread for OFP like there is for A2/OA/CO. This would have been a great resource over the years to hand off any abandoned or orphaned projects to the community at large. Another possibility would have been to hand creative assets over to BIS so they could hold content in escrow so no addon maker's time would be wasted. Not that there is a shortage of user made content for OFP :) but are you aware of any repository of closed or abandoned OFP projects?
-
Hi Max Power, thanks for the advice and taking the time to update the thread. I think the most responsible thing for me to do is remove any post that is flagged in which I have misinterpreted the author's intentions for permission free reuse of assets. In the case of the CounterStrike Weapons, I presumed that the public existence of the addon in the community for an extended period of time had established it's validity. Since it is commonly available I presumed that it met the community's standard of fair use of content. Do you think that I should add a disclaimer to the first post which encourages users to read the original author's readme & contact them (if possible) to be absolutely sure before reusing assets? ---------- Post added at 09:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ---------- Ballistic Addon Studios (BAS) Infantry Kit: http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=6383
