  1. First impressions of the alpha are really good - visually it's great. and I can run pretty much all settings maxed at 1920x1080 on a 2-year old PC. There's obviously a lot of optimisation going on because it runs a lot smoother than Arma II. The post-processing on the graphics looks less exaggerated to me than in Arma II as well. Lighting and shadows are better as well. Weapons feel good, there's a sense of impact when firing a rifle and the sounds are top notch. AI speech is a big improvement and sounds a lot less robotic. I like that you can pretty much jump straight into the game if you've played Arma before. The new vehicle physics seem good, I like the way the vehicles bounce and roll in response to your driving without it feeling exaggerated - it feels like there's more of a connection between the player and the vehicle. The map seems good, though Arma games always have great maps - nice to see the standard being kept up, and I can't wait to see what the larger maps are like. The future setting is an interesting direction - Arma II covers present day conflict pretty well, and it means the game will feel like something genuinely new as opposed to just a re-tread of its predecessors - interesting to see concepts of near-future equipment. So far there doesn't really seem to be anything to dislike, and plenty to feel excited about. I think selling the alpha in this way is a really nice idea, knowing that not only do we get our hands on a working build early, but that we'll see all the updates and changes, the beta and finally the full release. Thanks BIS! And amazing to see the modding community has already got started - thanks modders!

Why are you playing BIS games?

I'm a long time OFP player and picked up Arma II recently. There's really no other games quite like them, combining realism with amazing versatility. BIS are a great studio, no doubt. To take a risk on a massive undertaking like OFP or ARMA when the temptation these days to produce some sort of CoD knock-off is huge, to shrug off being dropped by Codemasters and just go your own way... that takes more balls than I have ;). So few other devs make so much effort to engage with the players and I can't think of anyone else apart from maybe Blizzard who support their games for so long and so closely. I like the way you can scale the difficulty of the game to match your mood and ability. The modding community is the icing on the cake - a combination of BIS being open and allowing so many parts of the game to be adjusted by mod makers, and the biggest and best organised bunch of modders I've ever seen. So - a studio that deserves the greatest respect for the way they do business, some stone-cold classic games and an amazing community of players. What's not to like? Ade
  3. Been using DVD for a while now on my elderly rig and it's a really neat little tool, stops the framerate becoming unplayable when things get busy, and the transitions aren't too noticeable. Thanks for all your efforts with this :)
  4. Wow, fast reply... I do like this community... I don't have a PMC folder inside the DLCSetup folder - will this work if I just create an empty one with the right name?
  5. Sorry if this has already been asked, but I read through the thread and couldn't find anything that looked exactly like my problem. I have Arma II, OA and BAF all from Steam and downloaded the 1.56 patch. PMC Lite appears in the list of expansions in the game menu and I can access the Proving Grounds and new units and stuff in the editor. However, I can't access the campaign and there is no modfolder for PMC in the OA root folder or the DLCSetup folder (this only contains my BAF folder). All the PMC addon files are in the Common folder. It makes no difference if I choose to launch combined ops or OA standalone. Has the patch installed incorrectly? Or have I missed something obvious? Is there a way to fix it that doesn't involve 10Gb of downloads? :butbut: Grateful for any help from you good people! Wanted a go at the campaign while I persuade my wife to let me buy the full DLC ;) In the interest of balance, I absolutely frickin' love this game even though my poor, senile PC can hardly run it - colour me a BIS fanboi :D
