Too late trucker - it passed congress with a vote of 399-3 and was signed into Law by Obama yesterday. It doesn't criminalise protest at all. It simply temporarily stops people occupying areas where dignitaries are visiting or jumping the fence at the White House. You will still be able to protest peacefully from the sidewalk. Good old Globalresearch.ca, always economical with the truth. Make sure you read the attached PDF of the bill where you will discover the law only applies to areas temporarily restricted by the US Secret Service at the time and permanently only to the grounds of the White House and residence of the Deputy President. Trying to say this is a nation wide restriction on protest is a huge distortion of the reality.

It can't unless they pass new laws. Public Order only covers certain things. Clamping down further is very unlikely as it would clash with existing UK and EU law. There would also be great public opposition, including from me, I think the balance is ok as it is. If you ever need legal guidance this is a very useful website: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/index.html

Helicopter taxi Problem?
PELHAM replied to Irishman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
It is possible to check if players / groups are inside vehicles with trigger conditions. Understanding how to make helicopters do what you want is challenging I agree. The standard method everybody refers to is Kylanias: http://www.kylania.com/ex/?p=82 It's a hold waypoint with a switch type trigger synchronised to the WP, anyone, present, repeatedly, cond: {_x in heliName} count units groupName == 0; If you need it to check the player only: !(player in heliName) or (player in heliName) See this too: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?78066-Step-by-Step-Helicopter-Extraction-Guide If that isn't exactly what you want let me know. I have some example missions with lots of helicopter T/Os and landings but they are on a spare hard drive somewhere. Alternatively there are some excellent helicopter 'taxi' scripts here and on Armaholic.com -
I can see the bigger picture. Riots and extreme violence have started for less. He has put his whole community at risk from the far right beyond the actual distress and harassment this may have caused to bereaved families and others. The basic problem is many will not read this and think 'what a prat' and move on. There is a minority who will immediately be looking to travel there and cause trouble. If people can't behave reasonably they need a little reminder because extremism of all kinds is growing in the UK. It happens every weekend now. Tickets for the football are too expensive so they have found something else to do. That is why they have laws about incitement and public order. It's to try and keep a lid on things before it spirals out of control. The UK is far from being 1 nation, it's a collection of communities. The Police spend much of their time trying to keep the peace. There is also a historical angle to think about RE West Yorkshire. It's where the main cell involved in the London Bombings got together. West Yorkshire Police are on constant alert for signs of extremism of any kind, including the EDL mob, because they don't want similar things to happen again. There are valid reasons why this is taken seriously. I don't think they are being heavy handed, there are many examples of arrests of this kind over the past few years. This only affects UK citizens so does not affect all users on Facebook but their own nations may have similar laws. RE what I have said before about other governments, this guy will not be tortured, killed, held without trial or given a disproportionate sentence, he will not be held on remand till the trial. His family with not be threatened by the state, imprisoned or lose their jobs. The maximum sentence could be 6 months but that is highly unlikely, it will probably just be a fine. His human rights have not been breached in any way, there is a law, it's possible he has broken it, he will get a fair hearing. He may possibly be found not guilty. So whats the problem? If you live in the UK and don't like the fact that Public Order offences apply to the internet, vote for a parliamentary debate, write to your MP or vote for a party that plans to scrap it.

The reason he was arrested is for the legal reasons I gave. People of all races are regularly arrested for public order offences related to internet postings and others are arrested in public places for the same offences every day. Are you seriously trying to say they only arrested him because he is Asian? If you look at previous cases, the Law relating to Public Order and what he wrote you will quickly realise he is being treated no differently to anyone else. One thing to be aware of is the police would not have acted without several people making a complaint. I am well aware people are making racist comments in return and the same thing should happen to them. His comments have created a spiral of public order problems and will cost West Yorkshire thousands of pounds because his trial will have to be heavily policed as well. So I guess it's best if people think about what they write and don't break the law in the first place. One thing I find irritating is that several websites are excusing his crime because of the killings of a rogue US soldier (that guy needs whole life tariff minimum BTW). The Afghan killings happened on Sunday 11th and the comments were posted on Thursday 8th so the two incidents aren't even connected.

By reading nonsense from 1 site on the internet? I'm from Africa and I know the OAU perspective - "No to Democracy". The SA government have links with some very shady people and only last month the Deputy Prime Minister and his wife were caught breaking international sanctions for personal profit. Their support for Gadaffi was no surprise to me. Enlighten yourself friend, the voltaire network is not to be taken seriously (just look at the voltaire front page lol): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltaire_Network#Notoriety

Yes you need to look at the actual post to see why he was arrested. Go to google, search Azhar Ahmed, and then select images. You will then see the wording of the facebook post and all will become clear. The media can't report his actual words because that would be prejudicial. So looking at a purposely vague media story isn't helpful.
-
No you didn't because that statement would be legal in the UK as well. Read the 2nd half starting with the word 'All' - that is the illegal bit.
-
In the UK he would also be free to say that. Have you actually read what he posted? Read the 2nd half from the word 'All', that's what is illegal.

What happens when you overclock your iPad to run Arma2. Also where do I plug in my footpedals, joystick and TrackIR? -
Well the 1st half of what he said is a political view and no one would have a problem with that. The 2nd part could be perceived as hostility and harassment directed at soldiers and at the families of soldiers living and deceased. That is a crime in the UK on many levels. Firstly you cannot harass or cause alarm and distress to officials or families of officials engaged in public service. You also cannot cause alarm/distress or harassment in a public place. Facebook and other websites are considered public places under the law. It can be defined as racial because he is referring to soldiers of a particular nationality but also parts of what he said are religious. So express your political views and opinions as freely as you wish. Become hostile (mention harm or death) and direct them at individuals or bereaved families and you will find yourself in trouble with the police and facing the courts. I don't have a problem with the 1st part of what he says. The 2nd part is not acceptable public behaviour.

Probably some truth in what he says but 'premature interlocution' as usual. ;) Why would I use a tablet to game? I love my 24" screen! How do you type code on it efficiently? How do you multitask? This PC is only for browsing Facebook mantra you see in Windows 8, Tablets and Ubuntu Unity really depresses me. I like having 50 windows open FFS!!!!! I don't want my PC functionality hidden from me, I have a brain!!!! -
The US Congress ratified the United Nations Charter on July 28, 1945, by a vote of 89 to 2, with 5 abstentions? The War Powers Resolution 1973 aims to partially ignore this. So when you have Congress passing contradicting laws it allows the President to effectively pick and choose? Also, did Congress authorise military action taken under the UN Charter when they ratified it? It's a complex situation and I'm suspicious of organisations that leave out important pieces of the puzzle. Also their legal justifications are flawed. The cases they quote deal with Congressional Letters of Marque and Reprisal powers not Declaration of War powers? They are part of the same clause but are completely different things. The cases deal with the capture of enemy ships and the sale and compensation of the vessels. I'm not sure law relating to 17th century privateers is relevant here? Letters of marque

@ Fox'09 - it isn't really a credible explanation of the facts as they fail to point out the vagueness of the US Constitution which causes the legal argument between the Presidential Office and Congress. The basic argument here is 'does the US have to declare war every time military force is used'? If you go on legal precident the answer is no because the US Congress has only formally declared war on five separate ocasions (the last time during WW2), each upon prior request by the President. Four of those five declarations came after hostilities had begun. Presidents maintain that they have the Constitutional authority, as commander in chief (Article Two, Section Two) to use the military for "police actions" as Authorised under the UN charter. Many in Congress disagree because of their exclusive power to declare war under Article I, Section 8, Clause 11, although there is some controversy as the Constitution does not specify the form of such a declaration. Congress maintains the point of view of the 1973 'War Powers Resolution' but the Office of the President has always rejected that resolution as unconstitutional (Presentment Clause). So the argument as to who has overall control in using military force continues. Further reading: War Powers Clause Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 Presidential Powers Article 2, section 2, clause 1 Declarations of War by the US Police Action War Powers Resolution 1973 Presentment clause
-
Yep and it falls into that massive grey area called the US Constitution (Declaration of War)and the division of powers between the legislative branches. At the centre of this is the War Powers Resolution. The Office of the President has for many terms declared this resolution unconstitutional because of the Presentment Clause and they have a valid point about that. However the will of Congress can't simply be ignored because the resolution was passed with a 2/3rds majority. So Presidents seem to defer to it under protest. The problem is this bad situation has been allowed to continue for for 39 years and leads to much confusion as the legality over military action ends up in legal arguments between Congress and the Office of the President. I have studied it for a few hours and can't really tell if he acted illegally or not, it depends who's point of view you look at it from with reference to the Constitution which can be interpreted several different ways. He certainly pushed his luck too far and therfore has a case to answer. If this actually leads to a successful impeachment is anyones guess. I would not like to bet either way on this. Clinton got away with it but only after Congress implied support by agreeing funding. Congress didn't make that mistake this time so it does look like there will be a day in court to decide this.

Does anyone know what command is used with the Zone Restriction module (Zora) to draw those lines between markers? I am thinking it's comprised of 2 markers "dot" and "o_inf" with a line or link drawn between? see Wolfy's work here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?109019-cB-BIS-Zone-Restriction-Module-in-MP&highlight=zora+markers

Complex Map Markers with drawLink/drawLine eg Zora/BIS Zone Restriction?
PELHAM replied to PELHAM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Excellent reponse, thank you very much twirly. Works perfectly - will have to adapt it for moving markers though. If you run in circles you can play spirograph lol. @CarlGustaffa I tried all the examples and made sure I was feeding it position3D format positions but none of the draw commands work. I wonderred if the "map" control was relevant for Arma2? -
@krzychuzokecia Kony was supported by Sudan and thanks to their financial and millitary support he became very powerful. Thats a fact. Sudan is responsible for much of the mass murder in the region including Darfur and that is why the International Criminal court is after their president. To understand why the US is very reluctant to get involved you have to look at recent history. The US attempted to solve a problem in Africa in 1993 and it went very wrong for them in Somalia. They would not have been interested in another more complex mission so soon after. So you can think it's all financial and quote Muenkler a dozen times over. The fact is, Clinton got his fingers burned in Somalia and did not have the political will to do anything further in Africa during his presidency and the following presidents had the same policy. Seeing American bodies being dragged through the streets and mostly white soldiers mowing down poor black people does not make comfortable viewing back in the US, particularly for Democrats. They don't want a repeat of 1993. I say Muenkler's theory applies more to African politicians and military leaders. They all know exactly where he is and he would be dead if they wanted it. Problem is they are all getting stinking rich from illegal mineral extraction and logging in the DRC. The instability caused by Kony and others keeps them in profits. I know this for a fact as I have seen how these guys operate with my own eyes. Also, I am in no way saying the US should get more involved. It would be pointless. The African nations need to start sorting out their own problems. Kony is their problem not the Wests. The corruption in Africa is so endemic you never know who to trust and you can never know who has business interests on both sides of the conflict so trying to do the right thing never works out.

Death of Retail. No future for the High Street and the Mall?
PELHAM replied to walker's topic in OFFTOPIC
Yep the high street is dead because it's full of shops with limited stock and I can never find what I really want and end up ordering it online. The other side of it is actually getting there. Parking is very expensive, public transport costs are similar and services less and less frequent. Why spend £10 on travel and 5 hours walking around when I can get what I want in 20mins online? I buy most shoes and clothing online, white goods, electrical and most other stuff apart from food. But even that is beginning to change as us keen amateur chefs can't find speciality ingredients on the high street these days. -
Thankyou for reporting that but it's already known - if you had done your homework you would know that Kony was supported by the government of Sudan. The president of Sudan is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for similar crimes in Darfur.

Try telling a spanish person "tengo calor!" You may politely be told to say "hizo calor \ hace calor" (that is if you don't get a slap to the face or worse). Both are perfectly correct it's just they have different colloquial meanings.
-
Esperanto? I used to know a fluent speaker - she could talk to at least 6 other people and they understood each other perfectly lol
-
I have known about this for 30 years. I first saw someone with no lips, ears and nose in 1979 begging in a street. Later I saw more and talked to them when I went back to africa to work in the 1990's. Most of them were victims of political violence by militias trained by Chinese and North Korean advisors in communist training camps in Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique. The Soviet Union provided the weapons. Occasionally, I used to try to tell people about the organised corruption and extreme acts of violence but no one would believe it as it wasn't reported. One thing to understand is that you will not end this by getting rid of Kony or people like him. Much of it is cultural and linked to spiritual beliefs, mysticism and witchdoctors. Sounds ridiculous already doesn't it? It's perfectly true. Kony himself is an out of control spiritualist 'messenger of god'. The abduction of children for use as child soldiers is well known. Children are also killed and maimed when suspected of being posessed by evil spirits. Witchdoctors also abduct children to use their body parts in spiritual medicine. They may also instruct other people to kill, use or eat the body parts of children or their enemies to cure suspected curses or possession by evil spirits. The aids epidemic prompted another instant cure from the 'spiritualist healers' - rape a virgin and you will be healed. The violence towards young girls across southern africa increased exponentially. Apart from this the spiritualist has a deeper effect on politics in many areas as they tell people who to vote for and list the consequences if they don't. Bad things happen to people who step out of line. They are accused of being possessed and usualy end up dead. African politicians know this well and large amounts of cash change hands. So killing Kony will do nothing. You need to educate people to break the cultural influence of so called 'spiritualist healers' and provide more effective peace keeping and political measures to control the organised political terror and corruption introduced in the 1960's. The well meaning western charities and celebs need to cut the amount of dishonesty and self promotion in their campaigns and start dealing with the real problems. The peacemeal charity work has actually created more problems than it solved because it's uncoordinated. It's sounds really nice to prevent a million deaths from malaria but where will that extra million live? What will they eat? Where will they work and where will the 2 million children that they produce live, work and eat? Even worse, will that extra population growth occur in a certain region or people because there is easy access for the charity? Will that increase in population and needs allow them to dominate and subdue a weaker neighbour? The damage caused to Africa in the last 50 years by external influences is mind numbing.

Ugliest mug I have ever seen - disgrace to see the Arma3 logo on that! ;) I sympathise tho. The wife has a strange habit of collecting a mug from every holiday destination. I have to come up with ingenious methods of culling our mug population and framing the homicide/mugicide on the dishwasher.
