Random soldier placement: How to attach a waypoint?
Joe98 posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
In the editor I place a soldier on the map. I place a series of waypoints so he will patrol due north. The first waypoint is at a crossroads only 20 meters from the soldier. I select random placement of the soldier in a circle of 1,000 meters. When the scenario starts, the soldier appears at random within the circle. However, the first waypoint, at that crossroads, is now 400 meters away! How do I set it so that, no matter where the soldier begins on the map, he will always patrol due north? - -
Now working in the editor. On the map I have positioned 9 men. 1 x sergeant 2 x corporals 6 x privates I want the 2 corporals to report to the sergeant, 3 of the privates to report one corporal and the other 3 privates to report to the other corporal. However, all 8 men report direct to the sergeant. How do I draw the command lines the way that I wish? - -

The joys of Windows 7! Name_Each_Scenario_Like_This and then do a search and you will easily find them. Microsoft%20Names%20Scenarios%20Like%20This. - -
Zargabad is not on the Takistan map. Zargabad is not just a city. It is surrounded by a large amount of countryside. -

The game has its own web page. At the top of this screen slect "games" and follow the links to the web site. -

Need scripted mission tutorials for beginners
Joe98 replied to SilentShooter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Start with only the basic Tutorials - - how a soldier moves - how to shoot - how to drive Afterwards go to the "Armoury" section. These are 1 man missions. Play through these and you will learn a lot. Over time, try to play with all the weapons and all the vehicles. From time to time play the tutorials over again to clarify things. - -
Tutorials that teach how to use the different menus in various situations
Joe98 posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Menu 6 is called the “Action menuâ€. It states this clearly in the manual. Yet I have had Operation Arrowhead for 9 months now and only learnt this last night! Let one tutorial, cover the Space bar and the different orders that can be given in different situations Let one tutorial cover the orders that can be given from menus 1,2 and 3. Let one tutorial cover the orders given from menu 6 in different situations. And so on and so forth. - -
Tutorials that teach how to use the different menus in various situations
Joe98 replied to Joe98's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Neither. The tutorial is incomplete. - It fails to describe all the things that menu "6" can be used for. I know of 2 things menu "6" can be used for. A proper tutorial would give examples of all the things it can be used for. - -
Tutorials that teach how to use the different menus in various situations
Joe98 replied to Joe98's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Ok. Start a tutorial and hit "6". The menu is blank Start a game and hit "6". The menu is blank. I tried all the menus many times. "6" is always blank. Its not laziness. "6" is always blank: (except the day I found by accident it is a context menu and that day it was not blank) Nowhere in the tutorials nor in the manual nor in the editor is there a comment that "6" is a contexual menu. - -
A typical squad probably has one medic. A typical platoon probably has 3 medics. The space between one squad and another is not so large. Therefore a medic from one squad could treat the wounded from another squad. However the space between one platoon and another is somewhat larger. A medic from one platoon may well be too far away to treat a man from another platoon. It would always depend upon the circumstances. -

Now, imagine if this was in a tutorial ! And context menus change depending upon the context. Imagine if there was a tutorial showing each of the different contexts. The I would not have had to wait 9 months to discover that menu 6 is a context menu. - -
No. In Operation Arrowhead the troops are always German. In BAF the troops are always British. In the other type of "My Missions" you can select any troops you wish including the very cool Private Military Company. -

Tutorials that teach how to use the different menus in various situations
Joe98 replied to Joe98's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Operation Arrowhead first aid tutorial teaches me how to apply first aid to myself and how to apply first aid to another soldier. As a squad commander in a scenario I am not a medic so I cannot heal anybody! And the tutorial refers to the Space bar as the Action menu. This is wrong! "6" is the action menu. What the tutorial does not do, is teach me how to give an order to a medic to heal another soldier. What the tutorial does not do, is let you know that "6 Action" actually exists! I have started many a mission, selected "6 Action" to find the menu empty ! I have played many a scenario with wounded soldiers becasue I followed the tutorial, selected Space bar, and there is no order to heal that soldier. The other night I selected "6" by mistake and found the order! - ---------- Post added at 08:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 AM ---------- Start 14 missions and select "6 Action". The menu is empty Now start a 15th mission and select "6 Action". Its still empty. That was my self-exploring = To point out that in all the tutorials, there is no use of menu "6 Action". To point out that in at least one tutorial, the Space bar is incorrectly referred to as the Action menu. - -

ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions
Joe98 replied to wraith_v's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I have had operation Arrowhead only since last October. I learnt some NEW things last night. If there are any newbies out there this will be useful to you. LESSON 1 = = = = = = You have a medic in your squad and you are wounded. Hit Space and selected “injured†and he will come and fix you up. Or; Select the medic, then select “6†and the menu will include an instruction to fix you up. LESSON 2 = = = = = = You have a medic in your squad and another man is wounded. Select the medic then select “6†and have him fix the wounded man. If more than one man is wounded then the man with the highest rank will appear in the list and he will be fixed up first. You ned to order the medic to fix up the next wounded man. LESSON 3 = = = = = = A man in your squad runs out of ammunition and you come across an ammo box or ammo truck. Select the man, have him move to the box/truck. Select “6†and order him to “Rearmâ€. If there is no ammo for his specific weapon, the menu allows you to order him to select another weapon instead. If the mission requires you to rescue prisoners, they too can be ordered to pick up a rifle from an ammo box/ truck. LESSON 4 = = = = = = In action, sometimes a soldier will shout out the location of an enemy soldier. He fires and misses. I cannot see the enemy soldier but I want a second soldier to help the first. Select the second soldier, hit Space, turn and face the direction of the enemy soldier, and the circle will show an “attack†icon. Press the left mouse button and the second soldier will move to attack that enemy soldier. - -
Look closely and you will see "1-1-3" which ( I think) means First Squad First team Third man -

I have now had Operation Arrowhead for 9 months. I have only just learnt that menu 6 is the Action Menu. The manual states clearly that menu 6 is the Action Menu. Yet somehow I thought the Action Menu is opened with the Space bar! My suggestion is that in the manual, more space be devoted to the menus. - ---------- Post added at 10:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 AM ---------- When I hit Space a menu appears. I now need to roll the mouse up and down to select an item. I find it difficult to get the mouse to fall exactly on the item I want. I suggest each item in the Space menu, be given a number. -

How do you play Arma 2\OA ?
Joe98 replied to purepassion's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
None of the above. I mostly use My Missions and occasionally use the editor, to make single player single missions. - -
By default you are the squad leader. Press " T " and jump into the shoes of any other soldier. -
-
In real life, a rifle sight can be a few cm above the barrell. In real life you can see that the barrell is sticking into the ground. In the game this is not always obvious. Switch to 3rd person view and then it is obvious. -

I often take screen shots of games and post them on forums. See a sample below. I cannot take a screen shot of OA! I use WIN 7, 64 bit How to take a screen shot of OA? - -

What is a WIN 7 "start up parameter" ? - -
I am new to the series. I got Operation Arrowhead in October 2010 and Reinforcements just recently. I only play single player. I am thoroughly enjoying “My Missionsâ€. There is a huge selection of troops, teams, squads, vehicles, mechanised infantry, armoured infantry and armour from all sides. You can easily create a mission on any part of the map, in any weather, any time of the year and any time day or night. I have never seen anything that is obviously a bug in the game. -

This thread is all about how to make it even more powerful. - Yes they do! Game developers start by developing the editor. From the editor they make the missions. Manuals are designed to teach us how to control the soldiers, issue orders and fire weapons. Not about the editor. Some games allow the public to use the editor and some games do not. The editor is not the central point of the game. That’s why editors are often hard use and why the editor manual is often poor. So, the developers produce the editor first! - ---------- Post added at 09:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 AM ---------- And if the developers improve the editor, it makes it that much easier for developers to make the missions so they are doing themselves a favour. -
