OA video driver crash on GTX 280
visceralsyn replied to ILJJ's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
If the error message thats coming up, specifically says the nVidia driver is crashing. Why do you not try a different driver? I've got an Asus ENGTX 480, and have yet to have the driver cause a crash, most likely because I do no use any of the Beta drivers. Only use nVidia WHQL's for best stability. With that said, if you are using a nVidia Beta driver, try the nVidia WHQL. If you are using a WHQL already, make sure its either the most recent one, or try an old one. ...Syn... -

Arma 2, Debian Lenny: Server Trouble (V1.55)
visceralsyn replied to red29's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
OS: Mandriva 2010 Game files: Uploaded from my backup installation: ver. ArmA² 1.08, ArmA²-OA 1.55 Server version: 1.55 Linux Beta Mods: @stmovement *disabled* Before I had patched the server install, I downloaded the Linux 1.55 Beta, extracted it and installed it. None of the Benny's Warefare missions would load, they did the same thing yours is doing. Then I pulled them out, and tried a default mission, most of them loaded but A-LOT of errors. So I deleted the directory on the Mandriva machine. Patched up my backup install, and transferred it over to the Mandriva machine. Then re-installed the 1.55 Beta. Now missions load, only a few disconnects ( most internet players ), not a-lot of errors in the log, but more than a few. Also netlog provides more information than the server_console, maybe too much. But, provides more than server_console. Oooh, I also configured arma2oaserver.sh, and use it to launch. As well as, re-nice the PID. *EDIT* I'm not using Battle-Eye, I just noticed in your log. ...Syn... -
V-Sync enabled locks your fps to 60, if and when your fps go down, they are going down to 30fps on the first drop. Once your fps go below 20, the human can see the slowness. Above 20 just looks like smoothness. With V-Sync off, your fps run as fast as your display can run them, if and when something causes your fps to dip, the fps won't dip to 30fps. So whatever is causing your fps to nose dive can cause the fps to go clear to 0. With V-Sync enabled and Triple Buffer on, there is always an extra frame for the vid card to render so your fps cannot go all the way to 0 fps. 'You should know what you are talkin about before you tell someone to read your post more carefully' They changed something else to cause the flashing textures and vegetation.

This isn't the thread for this, but: Triple Buffering works as intended when V-Sync is on. As well as the tear-frame not tearing your eyes out. Personally, I've always had V-Sync on, for games that allow the Triple Buffering, and I don't like my eye's torn out. So yes, V-Sync enabled should provide you with the visual of performance, because frame-rates won't be erratic. ...Syn...

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead - Linux Standalone Server 1.55 BETA
visceralsyn replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I think what is being mis-understood, is that people are thinking the Beta-PATCH is an actual patch. Most particularly since it is titled patch. In reality it is not a patch, it is a completely seperate executable. For a Linux dedicated server, your install needs to be patched. Since the server is not installed, and merely copied over... wait for it... wait for it... The server install must be patched, 1.55 for OA, 1.08 for ArmA². Once your server installation is patched. Then copy it back to Linux. Then you can extract, set up the 1.55 Beta server. On a windows machine, if the server is actually installed, and not copied, all you'd have to do is run the patch, because the windows registry would be correct. ...Syn... -
ARMA2 Dedicated = 25% CPU Max ?
visceralsyn replied to Ofcra_Leon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I didn't ask for your opinion of my setup. 1. Runnin Mandriva Linux 2010, not Winders... 2. 2GB of ram, is fine. 3. I'm not running 2 servers. 4. ArmA² OA server has yet to break 800mb. You've wasted your money on a quad, when to date nothing has proven to take full advantage of dual core. Linux trimmed down to bare essentials, no X, running init level 3. All daemons sleeping except the server, which also has its priority increased. Also unlike winders, Linux will use the swapfile correctly, and as intended. Serve with what serves best, and free... Linux!!! Linux is like a tee-pee, no windows, no gates, and a Apache inside!!! ...Syn... -

The -cfg is for the engine configuration, for the bandwidth fine tuning. -Config is for MP server options, MOTD, passwords, etc. The profile is where the difficulty settings are made. All of the above information is the wiki. ...Syn... -
ARMA2 Dedicated = 25% CPU Max ?
visceralsyn replied to Ofcra_Leon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I've been messing with the ArmA² and the ArmA² CO deddy servers for LAN setup, with Server-2K3 and Mandriva 2010. When running under Winders, basically... it ran like poop, runny poop at that. Freezes, Server-FPS dips to the teens, were kinda normal. When I switched to Mandriva 2010, both ArmA² and one of the Beta Exe's, run like a hot knife, through melted butter. ArmA² CO didn't seem to have as many issues, so have not tested any OA Beta Exe's. The frequency of that Server-FPS dip, is waaay less, and only to upper 30's now. Test runs on Warfare missions, Benny's and release MPMissions. Likely to put CentOS Linux on it, and chuck Mandriva 2010. Running on a Dual Core 'Wolfdale' Xeon E3110, I've seen it use 55% ~ 60% cpu usage. ...Syn... -
Dedicated server suggestions and tips?
visceralsyn replied to Rewindlabs's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Ideal world, and not just for servers, if your CPU's FSB is at 800Mhz, for the most efficient use of memory, would run at 800Mhz. So with that in mind, since you have a 1333Mhz FSB CPU, you would want to run DDR³@1333Mhz. For optimal performance you want your server to maintain over 20FPS, 30FPS or more means its running pretty good. According to the readme.txt file, 15FPS or less means the server is overworked. Lots of units, and scripts slows down the server A-LOT. However, a-lot of units and scripts is what makes missions fun! Good Luck -
Dedicated server suggestions and tips?
visceralsyn replied to Rewindlabs's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Ideally, I would suggest L2 caches for each core to be at least 1MB, but since it has an L3 cache, that might make up for it. So for that CPU's performance you'd need some input on, or just put it altogether and test the crap outta it. I'm not familiar with AMD products. Again, HDD isn't that major of a factor for serving. SCSI is ideal for servers, SATA is just as good. If, you had a mere IDE, it would suffice as well. The loading speeds are not going to provide major performance boosts for the server. This doesn't mean put in a 5400 RPM IDE drive. ;) Memory architecture type isn't going to make major differences either, just make sure you are using enough of it. I do suggest memory running at the FSB speed as a bear minimum. If its going to be on a gigabit connection to the internet, then the gigabit nic would be needed. Or even gigabit LAN gaming. But otherwise, a good 100mbps NIC, even onboard will suffice here. The server should run better under Linux than Winders. If I didn't need Winders for GTR² / Race 07 serving, I would be on *Nix too. -
Dedicated server suggestions and tips?
visceralsyn replied to Rewindlabs's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I've been messin around with my dedicated server in 100Mbps LAN using: Win2k3 Intel Xeon E3110 @ 3.0Ghz "Wolfdale" Asus P5BV-C Intel "Bigby" mobo 18GB 15k RPM Seagate cheetah 75GB 10K RPM IBM Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller 2GB pc-800 DDR² Mostly with MaxMsgSend really high, like 16384 to 24576. Which does kill the AI stutter when running. Minbandwidth set to 80Mbps, and max at 100Mbps. Oddly enuff when 1 client can go as low as 128k, when I had second client, the out was on average 256K to 384K per client. I ran Benny's Warfare for a few days, it took the AI a while to beat each other. I would punch in for a few hours to try and help out. FPs got down to mid teens a few times, but mostly in the 30's. This week mostly testing the 'SuperPowers' Warfare mission, and FPS stays higher, in the 40's with some drops to the 30's. Next week I'm going to switch to CO, to see how the optimizations produce a benefit. Then harrass my buddies into getting OA. The dedicated server is not very HDD intensive, it loads up the mission you play at the beginning. the 10K RPM SCSI disk does this fairly quickly. HDD for a game server should not be a major concern, most missions are not multiple megabytes in size. You seriously want CPU crunchin power. While the Dedicated server is multi-threaded, how much percent of cpu usage isn't the measurement, the FPS the server does your chosen mission is. Concentrate on a seriously fast CPU. If you think more than 4GB of RAM is needed, then also a 64bit OS. I've not seen the dedicated server crack over 640MB so the 2GB I'm using and a 32bit Server OS, trimmed down to its panties( OS idles using 120MB of ram ), is overkill. ...Syn... -
Toss the Beta 260.89's. I used them on Vista 64 with 480 GTX. Once Empire Total War crashed, the event log pointed to the driver. Then almost all of my titles started crashing, with the event log pointing to the driver. Just hope the next beta or WHQL has the performance optimizations the 260.89's have. Which if i remember correctly, didn't have any for your card listed. I got about 15% or more FPS boost in most of the titles i have installed. Syn

Where are downloaded mission files saved?
visceralsyn replied to Bulldog72's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
There is a hidden folder, in your user accounts' folder. Which has application files. Change the Windows default from hiding hidden files and folders and you'll see it. Syn
