Make sure your hard drives are performing up to par

In spite of much tweaking my ARMA2 still suffered from a lot of stuttering. With the HDTune benchmark program I found the hard drive that I installed ARMA2 to was only transferring about 10MB per second. My C: drive was transferring 90MB per second! I also had the page file on my ARMA2 drive, the slowest drive in my system. Here is a link to HDTune so you can judge your HD speed: http://hdtune.com/download.html This is how I fixed the problem in XP, got the drive to run in DMA mode instead of slower PIO mode: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/245379-31-help-slow-sata-performance#t1768630 Not sure what good numbers are for various motherboard/OS/hard drive combinations, but my 90 MB/s would be a good starting number to aim for. I know our Intel SSD at work gets 200 MB/s. -

You can also tell them 2,1 (No target), but that only helps so much. There is another thread on here about this very problem. -
I had the opportunity to upgrade from a dual core AMD to a tri-core AMD (minor upgrade but it was cheap), made little difference. I think the number of cores doesn't matter, from everything I've read it's CPU clock speed, hard drive, and video card.

When you're commanding AI troops and you've sent them away from you, on the map view is there any way to tell what number each unit is so you can effectively remotely command them? I can see them but I can't tell who's who. -

I hate starting a mission with those Eotech sights. To me the reticle is so big it obscures the target, especially when ARMA2 engagement distances are often 200+ meters and all you're looking at is a few dozen pixels.

Some effective supressive fire would be great. I guess the soldiers don't have any sort of morale variable, that combined with the possibility of surrender would be very interesting.

Maybe the AI need "threat levels", making spotting enemies, being spotted by enemies, and fired upon by enemies giving the AI increasing levels of self-preservation. But there should still be a "That's an ORDER!" option for commanders. We also need demotion and court martial options. ;)

No literally "proper addons". They have a lot of neat tweaks, like moving the action menu to the left side of the screen and increasing the "get in" radius for vehicles. -
Ok, having ARMA2 for a month or so I've built up quite a collection of content. Of course things like SLX and CBA must make a memory/CPU difference, but what are the memory/cpu/video ramifications of launching ARMA2 with things like islands or sound mods loaded? Can I just leave all the islands enabled instead of having to relaunch each time a mission requires a different island?

Probably a good tradeoff. I'd rather be able to pick my mission more quickly and while it loads go get a drink or whatever. -

Download link works for me, I've downloaded it twice today. Wiggum, I think you've got a great start for a mission. I like the atmosphere and even though I don't usually play with music, the music is great. Now I'm looking forward to mission 2 with more action. -

Look for the "no mods" servers. Usually though after playing a while server operators will start adding mods for variety. Things you probably want to get: All the different islands CBA (Community Base Addons) ACE2 (Advanced Combat Environment) To practice combat you can start a mutliplayer match yourself and play deathmatch against AI bots. -

No luck I'm afraid. I downloaded 1.10 and the hotfix, downloaded the Frozen mission again, still start in the water. I do get an error message when I play the mission, it says "missions\__cur_sp.namalsk (...and a long path...): Vehicle class TK_Soldier_EP1 no longer exists." Then I'm in the water. -

Ok, what am I doing wrong? When I launch the mission (by picking Call of Namalsk - Frozen from my Single Player missions), I wind up in the water. I swim south for a long time but no land. Previously in the thread it was mentioned to load the mission in the editor and Preview it, but the editor does not list any Namalsk missions. -

I have a launcher, I'm just wondering if having 5 or 6 islands enabled will slow things down. For example, if a mission does not require Isla Duala, does Isla Duala take up any system resources? -
Cool, I'll check them out. I've been putting off the 2GB CAA1 download, I was an OFP player but skipped ARMA1. Any others?

Can anyone recommend some good Apache missions, or their big Russian couterparts? Co-op or single player. Doesn't seem to be much out there from what I've seen.
