    Balancing?

While I do like the overall feeling of Arma 3, I too am concerned about the direction in which the game is being taken. The quote "This is war" from the menu screen must be taken with a pinch of salt, as Arma resembles only a tiny fraction of what real war actually is like, if at all. The main thing which drives my enthusiasm for BIS is that they seem(ed) to work towards making the experience as authentic and realistic as possible, to live up to their name, unlike other developers. Realism and balance do not go together, fact. War is not fair. Maybe BIS is trying to do the impossible, to please both sides? Hopefully my faith will be restored by their future decisions, after all, it's still an Alpha. -- If a game was completely realistic it wouldn't be fun. After all, being 6ft underground is not fun. The message which I'm trying to convey, is that they should aim towards playable authenticity, without balancing. /Opinion.

Contact him here. I understand that you have good intentions, but you still need permission from the author, unless he stated otherwise. :)
  3. Time, along with other environment variables such as weather, can only be configured within the mission files (not server configuration). The day and night cycle is a default game function, only by script can you adjust how this works. I recommend using skipTime at sunset, to skip through the night quickly, or completely. Use daytime in conjunction with the above to create a script (e.g., if daytime = xx:xx, then skipTime).
  4. I doubt that this would work, but you could try this. On Activation unit_name = this; Initialisation unit_name moveInDriver helicopter_name; You could maybe even shorten it down to the below, I'm not too experienced with triggers. Initialisation this moveInDriver helicopter_name; moveInDriver moveInGunner moveInCargo

    Vignetting

Steamroller, a mission by Animal Mother utilised a similar effect to simulate goggles. The mission is contained within ACE for Arma 2. It may be worth getting in contact with AnimalMother92. I personally don't mind people rooting through code which I write, but others' may not hold the same opinion.

I highly doubt that you will get much of a response due to the fact that you are trying to reverse engineer another persons work. Before touching others' work, please ensure that you have permission from the author or released license. This isn't just courtesy, but also a legality as even work in Arma is classed as Intellectual Property. Hopefully after clarification, people will be willing to assist you. If not, you could always contact the author.

    New Sniper pack

It should be possible to adjust the rules of engagement through the in-game squad leader options. You don't have to use the editor. This feature isn't available, but I'm sure that the developers would add it before the full release. For now, the VTS weapon resting addon is available, here.

    What determines my profile name?

Within the "Profiles" menu of the game, it's possible to create as many profiles as you wish, with custom names and independent game settings. The only restriction is renaming the original profile name, but due to the above, that's unneeded. Thank you for the correction. Both the computer name and profile name are the same on my system, it did confuse me a little.

    What determines my profile name?

The first profile which is created automatically when the game launches, this uses the Computer Windows Profile name. To change your profile, navigate to that section within game and you should be able to add a second, with a custom name.
  10. iniDB. I highly doubt that the efficiency (performance:scalability) of iniDB is comparable to that of real-world database solutions (when used in Arma), however it should put you on until the game has JVM support.
  11. Search before posting, threads already exist for performance queries. To answer your question, it's impossible to give an accurate estimate of performance due to the nature of the Arma series. On-top of the core requirements of the game, there are many variables such as mission demands and server performance. Judging from your specifications, you will probably not achieve an adequate experience, which in my opinion is above twenty four frames-per-second, on graphical settings above low. I recommend testing out the Alpha Lite before you purchase, if you haven't already.
  12. If I understand correctly, the Alpha Lite and Alpha are classed as different games on Steam. It may be possible to copy the Alpha Lite files into the Alpha directory, then verify game files through the Steam interface, though I have my doubts as to whether this will work, as most files have already been updated.
  13. Importing any content which one doesn't own is illegal, unless you have a written consent or a license from the owner. In relation to the "hacker" modifying players' textures, he most probably used the setObjectMaterial command or similar.

    Graphics induced Crash.

Please upload your Arma 3 report file, found in 'Users > Name > AppData > Local > Arma 3 Alpha'. You may need to enable the displaying of hidden files through 'Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options > View'.

    Endless DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED Crashes

Game changing (in this case - stopping) issues don't seem to be too common with the latest components, though I definitely understand where you're coming from. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I appreciate you taking the time out to assist, even though you don't have this problem yourself. The developers whom I have spoken with have been very helpful and I cannot thank them enough for their input. As I mentioned in a previous post, this issue has been "reviewed" on the tracker so I can't understand why no comment has been made by BIS as to the cause. It would be greatly appreciated. This is certainly not unique to Arma 3 or Arma 2 and it doesn't appear to be related to Nvidia drivers, since I and others have tried different versions with the same outcome. I have no experience or knowledge of how involved DirectX and PhysX are with the game, however I'm wondering if the issue may be tied to such code embedded in game. Again, an official word would be appreciated by many. Finally, though a long-shot I thought it would be a good idea for those who are experiencing this issue to list their computer specifications, along with monitor, resolution and connection details (DVI, HDMI ect). Maybe it's something that we all have in common that's causing the crash. Configuration CPU - Intel Core i7-3820 (3.6GHz/Stock) GPU - Gainward Phantom GTX 680 4GB (Stock) RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB (1600Mhz | 4x4GB) MOBO - Asus Rampage IV Formula X79 PSU - Corsair Professional Series AX750 - '80 Plus Gold' Monitor - Dell U2711 (2560x1440 /w Dual Link DVI)
  16. I think you misinterpreted his question, as did I when I first read it. Having a couple of different sub-forums for different styles of missions isn't a bad idea, though I personally would only go as far as listing the genre of game mode (Coop, TvT, CTI ect). My initial interpretation was that of the server mission list being able to index user-created folders inside the main mission folder, for better organisation of mission .pbo files. This would greatly help for those who prefer to store missions on the server.

Solo FPS amazing Multi Fps Terrible

This is a known issue. If I remember correctly, playing on a server which was hosted through the client brings much superior performance than that of a dedicated server instance.

ArmA 3 Alpha List of Bugs

Use the feedback tracker to search for and vote up these issues. It's easier for the developers to act accordingly when issues are consolidated into a single place. I've noticed a few people complain about this "issue". Throwing grenades at solid windows does simply not happen in real life, due to the likeliness of it bouncing back when the window fails to break. Are you referring to throwing grenades through broken, or open windows? Keep this in mind when reporting issues on the feedback tracker, you need to provide as much detail as possible. :)

    Endless DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED Crashes

Report 579 has been set to "reviewed" for a number of weeks now. Does anybody (maybe astaroth) have new information about this error? I'm about to reinstall Windows 8 and would like to know if there's anything that I can do to avoid this problem happening in the future. :) - Moderators: I understand that this post doesn't add anything to the topic, but I haven't seen any discussion about this ongoing problem for a while. Many people, including myself have been unable to play this game for over a month.
  20. Read the first post, which explains everything. If you're still having issues, use the example mission. :)
  21. Alt-Tab once in-game to fix the jitter.
  22. Majority of the computers that you see in generic retail stores tend to be tailored towards browsing the internet, not gaming. I, like many others on this forum recommend building your own system, to maximise performance and cost efficiency. It's surprisingly easy. Post up your budget and most common tasks and I'm sure you'll get a few different configurations to consider. :)
  23. There is a group limit (144?), but no limit for single AI units. If you don't have a crazy amount of AI which your processor can't handle, I suggest submitting a bug ticket with a report file. :)
