Where to find a server provider?

Another vote for JestServers.com. Great service that'd be hard to find anywhere else. As stated above his ticket response time and service is second to none. Though he's not much of a pilot as I found out on Take on Helicopters, he killed us both before we hit the ground. :p Give him a try, his prices aren't the cheapest (not far off though!) as he runs each server on high end hardware (100/100Mbps), but you certainly "get more than what you pay for". I've hosted my server with him for nearly a year now and the only downtime I've experienced has been caused by myself and ACE updates every Friday. :D Give him a go, you won't regret it. If you don't like the service (you will) and want to cancel, he'll refund you for the time you've not used.

    [Vehicle/Aircraft] Improvement Thread

Flying in ArmA 2 has become boring for me, there's no challenge involved. I'd welcome a new flight model, it would have to be set server-side if optional though. :)

Chat system - killing reports reposition

An option to turn the kill reports off server side, would be appreciated by a lot of administrators.
  4. Just to update, the price below is for a rented server (not dedicated). He usually limits the number of game server installs per machine to two though. Price to performance would actually work out better with the server specs I think. Fifty AI won't be much of a problem, it will probably run with fifty players just fine. As for uploading missions, he uses TCAdmin so you can manage the whole of your server and upload through your browser or FTP client easily. No maintenance work is needed at all. 1. What are the monthly running costs for a 5, 10 or 30 man server? A twenty slot server is $357.50 semi-annually (inc 8 Core Affinity + High Priority = $10). That's $59 or £39 montly. 2. Any recommendations for good hosting? JestServers.com without a doubt. Support is by far the fastest and most reliable I've seen to date. Server performance is great too, I've never experienced any problems other than addon errors that I caused myself. The price may be a little higher than some other hosting companies but you really get what you pay for. It's fully moderated and you get competitive hardware specifications. Check out the website. 3. Is Teamspeak needed, and if so, why does no one like the ingame VOIP? In my opinion yes, high quality voice chat for next to nothing. Being in game just to talk would get annoying. 4. What are the additional costs using TS? A twenty slot server is $33.60 semi-annually with JestServers.com. 5. Is TS hard to setup? Not at all. Once you understand how the permission system works, it's easy. Hope this helps.
  5. I think it'd be a good addition to ArmA 3 if you sank in the deep water, if you were overloaded. Obviously then you'd have to attempt to quickly ditch some things. Maybe even an animation for using your rucksack to keep afloat (action menu?). I think it should only happen in deep water (above head) though.
  6. I'm having a trouble finding a solution for a problem myself. Is it possible to script a single mission to load once the server has restarted? ACE updates daily on my server, after this happens an admin has to manually start a mission up. :(

    Weapon Lock

I partially agree with the last suggestion, this would help if nobody is talking. It could be an optional setting on the server-side, it's not something I would have activated though. I do disagree with the "weapon lock" though, friendly-fire is a real life problem and to disable it in the way that you described makes me think of COD. Edit: Maybe not. Just my opinion, not hating on you for having yours though. :)
  8. I'd like BIS to be bought out by Infinity Ward or Codemasters.
  9. Yes it certainly does, how are we supposed to know who to kidnap for information?! :D

Remove the blinding sun in A3 please

Exactly, this shouldn't be removed. It's very hard to drive in real life when you're looking in the direction of the sun, it's magnified when you're in the desert/warm climate.
  11. Good day all, I've come across a little problem with the backpacks in my mission. To keep this nice and short, here's the code I've used in the player & AI's 'init' field: Everything is fine except for the code marked in red, for some reason it doesn't create the items (Ammo & Smoke Grenades) in the player/AI's backpacks anymore. I've not changed the code since it worked. but what I have done is copy & paste it into the other AI init fields. :( Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. -MissileMoose Oh and Merry Christmas to all!

    An FRAPS alternative, open-source

For me, I get zero loss in FPS but it does record the FPS and recording icon in the actual video. :bounce3: Edit #1: Forgot to say, with FRAPS I get a huge FPS loss, this can make the game unplayable in some scenarios. Edit #2: Just been messing around with a few helicopters over Zargabad, when recording FPS does drop. On the ground it should be better, Zargabad is a pain though. -Moose
  13. Thanks, I was installing a different version so I guess that was the problem. Is that all I have to do to get it working, or do I have to configure it in game? If so, how? :o Thank you -Moose
  14. Hello, I'm trying to install PPJoy to run the GlovePie script, I'm having some trouble so would one of you be kind enough to walk me through it? I suppose it would help other people too. Once I've installed it and open it through my CP, I get an error about a missing file. In the user manual it says it's to do with the driver signing. I disabled it through running in test mode (Windows 7 x64 OS), it still doesn't work. Help! :o

    An FRAPS alternative, open-source

Thanks for sharing this, I used afterburner daily for my fan speed but didn't even know this existed! It works perfectly, no performance loss whatsoever. My only gripe is that it records the framerate in the video afterwards. Any way around this? I've tried messing with the settings, but with no luck. -Moose
  16. If you joined Insurgency and choose the Opfor side, it will freeze you in the menu if there are not enough Bluefor players to balance the game. Just a heads up. ;) -Moose
  17. Intro: AI slowly dismounting from aircraft, especially the Chinook's. Problem: When AI are ordered to dismount from a Chinook, they dismount one by one at a very slow rate. I tested this with 15 AI in the back of a Chinook, I ordered them to dismount then started to fire off a GPMG from the British Armed Forces pack, firing 3-5 round bursts, I managed to spend 200 rounds just as the last AI dismounted. This is a major disadvantage when dropping soldiers off into a hot landing zone, as enemy troops can disable the units one by one as they jump out. Not to mention the high risk of rocket propelled grenades that the pilot faces when on the ground for an extended period of time. How it should be: kDL5CmWYx4A The video explains it all, a Chinook insertion is a fast way to get troops on the ground. Comments and suggestions are welcomed. -Moose
  18. This is a very good suggestion, I've been in many situations where I needed to use my left hand for other things while flying. Also this would be great for hovering the F-35 JSF and Harrier when landing on the LHD. Great layout of the topic too, I think I'll be stealing this shortly. :p Edit: As said above it's annoying on the ground too when you want to stay at the same speed, you simply can't. At the moment it's pretty much 100% throttle when ever you press Q.

    Unable to Connect

Are you certain that it's running Combined Operations? You should have these maps: Chernarus Utes Takistan Zargabad Shapur Proving Grounds Also do you get any message when it kicks you out at all? Not even something along the lines of "You were kicked off the game?". The next thing that I would try, is to run standalone Operation Arrowhead from steam without ArmA 2. Connect to an OA only server to see if it allows you in. I'm hitting the pillow now, I'll have another think when I bounce back. -Moose

    Unable to Connect

Ignore the Spam bot, it's reported now. On Topic, are you running Combined Operations? To check, go to SinglePlayer > Editor and tell me what map names you see. Steam may be conflicting with your retail version, or vice versa. It may be possible to merge them, but I'm not too sure as I don't own a Steam version. -Moose

    [Resolved] Invalid CD KEY

First of all, please calm down. I had this problem once when I was testing my server once I updated it to 1.59, I was running ACE and a few more addons I believe. Try to disable any addons, then connect. If not, it might be a server problem. Check if you're running the exact same version, with no betas. I forgot how I fixed it, I'll try to remember though. -Moose

    MSI GTX460 Hawk 1GB?

Welcome to the BIS forum, I suggest you read the rules here about your signature, it's way too big. Also, your post belongs here. -Moose Edit: About your question, I would recommend one of these: AMD Radeon HD 6870
  23. Just installed the patch, my root folder was names "ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead" so I renamed it to "ArmA 2" so I guess that was the problem. I got the "ArmA 2 is not installed or is corrupted" error by the way. I don't use Steam but does it give you any errors?
  24. It does say that the manual patch should work with both installations (Retail & Steam), I'll have another attempt to install it. I have to anyway, I just updated my server to 1.09.
