  1. I am not sure if anyone has followed the ongoing war in Ukraine the last few months, but I have and I have also learned a lot about the stuff that is in action even now or will be within the next few years. Arma 3's futuristic scenario is EXTREMELY simplified and superficial. There are no Active Protection Systems, which are in action even today (Trophy, Arena), not even ERA, which is 70's technology, really. No airburst munitions, no precision ordonance, no real automated long range weapons systems, no thermal camouflage, it is really just Operation Flashpoint without iron sights and a UAV here and there. And honestly, that even makes sense, because in 2035 infantry will be toast even quicker than it is today (the few months in Eastern Ukraine have caused about the same fatalities as Iraq and Afghanistan combined!) Designing an infantry combat simulator set in 2035 is a pretty dumb idea, honestly, so no, I don't like Arma 3's futuristic setting. It could have been interesting, though probably not a lot of fun gameplay wise if done properly. BTW, most if not all of the stuff I've mentioned is either in development or in action right now, who knows what will be around in 20 years. That being said, I still can appreciate Arma 3 for what it is, even if its premise is flawed and highly unrealistic.

    Blackfoot gunner optics

Hello, is it possible to access the AH-99 Blackfoot's gunner optics as pilot? The PIP screen is next to useless and shows only a grey screen if you are looking at anything beyond 500m and the way I see that thing is best used from some distance.
  3. I'm not annoyed. It sure is nice to have. It is (to me) just an example for ressources and time that could have been better spent on other, more important (again, to me) features.
  4. Honestly, everyone will play around with this feature for a few hours, it will be (over-)used in a bunch of missions and then it gets old. But infantry combat is at the heart of the game, and improved infantry combat never gets old.
  5. Yeah the first and second I consider unrealistic, the underwater part I consider superfluos ;) (pun intended) Lots of time wasted on creating it (animations, graphics, filters, coding, etc.) for not much use.
  6. This is whats awesome about CM (not wanna do advertising or nothing), command a company of Stryker infantry, if enemy has no ATGMs keep them just out off effective RPG range and utilize firepower, if not use your 3 Plts w/ 1 HQ, 3 Squads and 2 MMG teams. Place the MMGs wisely and put 2 squads per Plt in overwatch while advancing with the 3rd. Any resistance pops up it gets suppressed by large volumes of fire, in case of fierce resistance company HQ or FOB team calls in offmap 81mm mortars or heavier ordnance. If something like could once happen in any Arma title I could die happily ;) (just kiddin' people are unsatisfiable) That being said I don't expect to see anythin alike in Arma 3 either. But I'm a little bit disturbed to see how Arma goes more "mainstream" with this installment and how pretty useless and/or unrealistic features are included with probably very great effort (like changing uniforms or changing scopes on the fly or underwater environments).
  7. I just played the first mission of the campaign (assault on Morton, boy how often have I particicapted in taking that village...), congrats, I felt just like back than. The pace of the attack felt slower to me but thats ok. Somehow the lighting seemed wrong. IIRC in OFP the attack happened in very early morning, just after dawn, but in Arma 2 it feels like 10 'o clock or something (although its 6am). Is maybe something wrong with the island? I just played around with time a bit in the editor and at no time I achieved that reddish hue of morning sun that I remember so well from the original game :(
  8. I haven't followed the progress of Arma 3 in the last months and although these 200+ page threads are super lame I'll just ask here anyways. Will the new Arma feature more tactical possibilities like f.e. a Platoon or even Company layer? I have playe Combat Mission Shock Force a lot lately and often wish Arma was more like it... Also, I have never seen any real tactical manouvering in any Arma game, which would be really cool though, normally it's just shoot until everthing is dead (another thing I'd like to see would be non-fatal casualties). With all buildings enterable, will we finally get realistic material penatration features? If a squad with lots of 7.62mm automatic weapons open up on a typical Mediterrean house (or any type of civilian house) I would expect not much would be left of anyone inside. Arma always delivered the tools to simulate the technical aspects of war, but sorely lacked tools for tactical stuff. Honestly, things like underwater combat maybe nice to look at or may be fun for a few hours, but as long as those things I mentioned are missing I don't really see what its good for.

    ArmA3 Wishlist and Ideas

I haven't read a lot in this thread or about the game, but THE one thing that would allow me to like the game despite future stuff would be LESS shooter, MORE tactics. No more sniping till everyone's dead, instead fire and movement. Squad and Platoon tactics. Suppressive fire, Platoon and maybe company coordination, simply more maneuvering. I do not want 50.000 spent rounds per Enemy KIA or something, but a little more real life like tactic employment would be really great.
  10. I turned of AA and it solved the transparent helmets problem for me, I do have an ATI 3850. There are some other bugs I noticed though: The animations for Fallschirmjager are kind of twisted, at least all moving with rifle animations (not so for MP40 anim) Also the bolt action animation looks weird, with one finger strangely twisted. edit: I've also noted that MGs in the hands of the AI are utterly useless, they can't hit the broad side of a barn. This gives the allied quite an advantage due to greater firepower of their infantry rifles.
  11. Do you have to use some special profile or userconfig settings for GL 4 to run optimally or should you use default settings?
  12. They DO work if you use the laser pointer as gunner, but the L's should be radar-guided, and that doesn't seem to work.
  13. I'm sure this has been asked before but finding something in this hella long thread and with the constant updating informations get invalid pretty fast I reckon so I just ask: How do you get the AGM-114L Hellfires to work? The K's are no problem, either tab the target as pilot with AI gunner or the laser thingie as gunner, but those damn L's wont hit anything. I've searched everywhere and read everything on this topic but couldn't find a working solution. So could anyone please post a short step-by-step instruction to explain it? edit: Oh yeah, and I have everything updated to the newest version.
  14. I found a thread about Knight's Cross winners of the 16th: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=4618 The first guy in this thread, Generalleutnant Dietrich von Mueller was the divisional commander since August 15th 1944
