Vietnam the Experience: Discussion
dr@gon replied to Snake Man's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Thnaks for the update Snake Man. I can't wait to spend a weekend soon playing the mod (maybe even take some time off work). I have been a fan of VTE since its early days and I am eager to play the full release for ARMA 2 when its ready. I am not expecting ACE 2 compatibility since that adds a lot of work to your mod but since I run ACE is it safe to say that VTE can run with ACE without too much difficulty? Many mods aren't specifically ACE compliant but still work great with ACE minus a few features. -

Interesting map choices Honeycutt. The Delta would be good mostly open with lots of canals, rivers, rice paddies; bring on the SEALs. Sounds like fun. Rung Sat is under water during high tide that may be a bit difficult to play. My vote would be areas such as; War Zone III with rolling hills near Tay Nihn, A Shau Valley, populated coastal areas mixing bush with paddy fields and jungle areas. just some thoughts. -
The Unsung MOD (Vietnam War) Arma 2 Release
dr@gon replied to sgt_savage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
There is red mud/clay in Vietnam because of its volcanic origins there is high iron content. The color is a rusty brown. The map is fine we don't have to nit pick but if we want realism it could be toned down a bit. I don't mind that I can't see the enemy and I don't mind that they may detect me and shoot forcing me to hug the ground where I can't see anything. At that point it is move or die. That is very realistic. However I don't like how they can see me through the jungle at 200 meters without the benefit of elevation. That is so unrealistic it cancels out the other realistic elements of the map. I would like to see the view block on this map addressed before other maps are released. I could spend many, many hours running missions on this map if the vegitation provided concealment for both sides. -

The Unsung MOD (Vietnam War) Arma 2 Release
dr@gon replied to sgt_savage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
It has been discussed in the forum many times already but I am finding the map unplayable. I love the look, atmosphere and I think it will be great for firefights but the VC/NVA have x-ray vision. The enemy AI engages at 200m + as if it were a flat desert map. The only one affected by the jungle limiting line-of-sight are the players. Not only does the vegitation offer no concealment from the AI but I'm starting to wonder if it really offers cover since I keep getting hit while in think jungle. The mod is awesome, Units, Objects but without a usable jungle map I am discouraged. When might this be fixed? -

The Unsung MOD (Vietnam War) Arma 2 Release
dr@gon replied to sgt_savage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I am loving this mod so far, it has been worth the wait. As an Alpha release it is actually better then some final releases I've played in the past (I started play OFP). The models are excellent and the map is great. The matter of 200m away VC opening fire in thick jungle isn't great but that is how it has always been in OFP, ARMA & ARMA2. My solution has been to use the High Dispersion Mod to reduce accuracy and move down the skill slider. It helps but it is hard to be stealthfull when the VC have xray vision (on the other hand I have artillary lol). Frame rate hasn't been a problem for me. I do notice it is a bit laggier then playing Takistan of course and there lies part of the problem for the community, expectations for performance are higher when coming from a desert map. Also, it is important to produce smaller battles to reduce performance issues. That works for me because I perfer the smaller stealth/hunter missions in the NAM setting. Great work, bring on the updates when they are ready (you guys actually deserve a bit of a break really) in the mean time I'm going to make some NAM missions. -

Woot public beta. Add 20-50 people to the testing pool and bugs will be found because we'll do things to the missions and mod that you never thought of, and we'll have fun doing it . I hope you do decide in favor of a public beta but I'll continue to wait if you don't. -

Dynamic-AI-Creator (DAC) V3.0 released
dr@gon replied to silola's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I just downloaded DAC v3 and I am eager to get started. Is there a quick reference guide I could use to get started right away and learn it fast?. I have read the documentation and it looks complete but there is a lot of trial and error involved to get to know the tool, problem is I don't always have that much time to dedicate to gaming. I would like to create a few quick random missions to play. Has anyone done some templates in addition to the demo mission included in the download? -

it doesn't matter if the mod is a free fan mod, if those who own the rights to the music did not grant permission then you can not distribute it in any form unless it is public domain. Free or not you can still be sued and forced to take down any web sight that allows the public to download it. However, this generally only happens when the music is still available to be sold in record stores, music from the 60's (except for the Beatles or the Stones) can be hard to find and I imagine many of the song writers are just happy people are still listening to the music. -
I like the idea of a Columbian Mod, not only does it have a lot of potential in its own right as pointed out by Miles, but it could serve as the bases for any number of Central or South American based scenarios. There have been lots of conflicts in Latin America over the decades and there will probably be more in the future, it is a region that has been ignored by mod makers for too long.

I'm sure the maps will be very good. Different maps have different uses; story based scenarios for single player, coop missions, capture the flag, quick multi-player skurmishes, slower PC's, high end PC's. They all have their place and map needs. A few will stand out as favorites no doubt but variety is good. -
ONS - Operation Northstar WIP
dr@gon replied to AASE's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Going back to the original ONS download (for the current version) I was able to reinstall the INKO I needed. Unfortunately INKO 1.3 affected the saved games as well since it would say something about a download dependancy and fail to load. The C8 issue is strange indeed. I have gone ahead and loaded the C8 varient I like into the cargo of the various insertion vehicles such as the LAV and helos so I can switch during insertion. The problem is not every mission allows you the opportunity to switch out. One other thing, when you change your load out on the init line you are able to carry both a backpack & an AT weapon - very cool. Once you switch out your primary weapon it drops the backpack. I probably shouldn't rely on the glitch to carry both since a future patch may fix it anyway. To me it is realistic to have light AT Weapons (LAW) liberally spread out in the section and leave the heavier AT Weapons (MAW) to the AT designated soldiers. P.S. I have really been enjoying the mod, good work guys its what I've been waiting for. -
Ever since I installed INKO 1.3 I've been having problems. When I try to restore a saved game the restore fails and says that this is saved with content dependant on addon INKO_Disposable (or something like that). I know INKO is enabled and is infact working during game play. I actually would prefer to reinstall INKO 1.2 for now but I can't find it anywhere to download anymore (I hastily deleted my previous copy).

ONS - Operation Northstar WIP
dr@gon replied to AASE's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hey guys I have a minor problem after installing the latest INKO 1.3 addon. When I launch ARMA 2 Combined Ops I get the following error; Addon 'ons_weapons' requires addon INKO_Disposables I made sure both addons, ONS & INKO are enabled in the game. During gameplay the soldier discards the used M72 like he's supposed to but he also discards a Carl Gustav tube at the same time. I hadn't noticed anything on the forums about this so I thought I'd mention it. Otherwise the game plays fine with both addons. ---------- Post added at 04:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ---------- Another problem I have found; As Ohally knows I use the 'ONS_C8A1_M203_SD' weapon but during testing I have found the Elcan sights to be way off. So much so that the weapon is unusable. This only applies when I add the entry in the Initialization field of the editor but works fine when I pull the weapon from the ammo box. Any ideas what might be causing this. I don't have this problem with the RH rifle addons. -
