  1. I felt like re-installing old ArmA, but it never loads properly. There are no error messages apart from "ArmA not responding" and just a black screen. Does anyone know what the problem is? I am currently in the process of patching it up to 1.18 to see if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help! UPDATE: I have patched to 1.18 and everything works beautifully so far!

    DLC - Canadian Forces

    I've always been a big admirer of the Canadian army. I like the way they go about their business. I like the fact that they are fully independent in their decision making about deployments and only fully commit to wars that directly affect people back in Canada. As a Brit, I feared the worst when the Iraq war came about, I could not see the necessity to invade, and it turned out for the worst. The 1st Gulf War however was a necessity, thus the Canadian deployment. Canadian's would be a great addition to A2. The current Canadian addons don't really seem to be up to scratch (no offence intended, I could not do any better!) compared to a lot of other mods out there, so I would really like to see them officially done! It would be great to have joint US, UK and Canadian ops in A2!

The feeling I'm getting from here is that if Dragon Rising had been called something like "Operation Dragon Rising" and the next game were to be called "Operation Red River", most people would not mind as much because it would not be "harming" the OpF reputation. Is that correct, or is the hatred towards Dragon Rising actually just a hatred towards Codemasters for leaving BiS and trying to do it themselves, then "failing"?

    British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update

    Bit of a shame that the new Sharpshooter Rifle will not be included. A very handy weapon, especially seeing as the SA80 is limited in range. Looking forward to the Insurgency based campaign, hope they get it right! I can't quite see how they are planning on creating that type of warfare seeing as the RV engine is based around conventional war. Hopefully, I'll be pleasantly surprised!

  8. Hi there, not sure if this is the right thread or not, or even of this makes any sense:confused:. Is there supposed to be a User Config file inside my ArmA 2 file, because I can't find one and it means that there are alot of addons that won't work because there is no place to put HPP file. If I am trying to find something that doesn't exist could you please help with where to put it. EDIT: I'm not using the Steam version. Thanks in advance.

  10. Although i voted for a complete rewrite, this would only be in a dream situation (+ I don't want BIS to focus on making it backward compatible). A completely new engine from scratch is probably something that BIS don't really have the resources for. In all honestey, I would like to see BIS adding more VBS2 features to the commercial game. If they got all those features into RV2 I don't understand why they would leave them out or decide that we would not want these features for the general public. It's strange that despite being made with the same engine, the two feel and behave very differently (VBS2/ArmA1). It seems to me that especially gun handling and effects are different. And, somehow seems more optimized? Maybe that was just the particular terrain that comes with JCOVE. I would deefinitely sacrifice ArmA 2's graphical capabilities for more features and more "simulator" gameplay. Maybe if the campaign was a group of missions where you are an average soldier in a war zone, doing daily tasks that soldiers in the real world do. For example, maybe a a mission where you are a called upon to a local village where an IED has just gone of and some villagers are seriously injured. The team has to cordon off the area (laying barbed wire, redirecting traffic blah, blah. Call in immediate MEDEVAC from an an airfield and help load the casualties onto the Chinook (or whatever). Then the team calls for an observation team to go onto a highpoint whilst the playersr team seraches the surrounding area for enemy. Once the situation has been handled. The team goes back to their base where the mission ends. (getting carried away there:o). Some more less obvious things could be AI medics. It is so frustrating when you have a casualty but the medic won't do anything. He will just continue to fire at the enemy position while his mate just bleeds out on the sand (which would be another cool feature;)). AI awareness is another big issue. It seams silly really to be able to fire at a group of enemy soldiers with out them reacting untill they have taken causualties. Just two AI based issues that need to be sorted. I think something that would help BIS alot, would be to get some mlitary advisors onboard their team. This would help BIS to add the right features to the game. Instead of some of the stuff we see that we know BIS can do better with. I understand that BIS may be looking at other things other than military "sims" but I would like to ask them to actually make a military simulator. Although this is the best thing on the market atm. I know that BIS can do better, they already did, 9 years ago:yay:. In short, I would love to see BIS create a brand new engine from scratch with the best this and the best that. But I would rather they just simply focus on providing a military simulator first, Gucci and glamour second.

    DLC- What do YOU want?

    I would like to see a realistic "soldiers" campaign. I'm happy to see that some community members have started to create more realistic missions and campaigns based on real war reports or personal experiences. e.g. Afghan War Diaries missions... I would also like to see more of the VBS2 features put into the game. It's the same tech, so why not. Like DieAngel said, Placeable barbed wire, shooting out of cars. They are all features in the RV engine so I can't see why they are not incorporated in the game version.

    Do option A, sounds really interesting. I'm on the same wavelength as you. I bought this game so could play a simulator. Do the day in day out things that soldiers on the front lines do. btw, like someone else said, can you make it so that perhaps the insurgents have a machine gun or something. Just to spice things up a bit;) Thanks and carry on the great work!

    :yay: I would like to see something like that as well. Maybe with in island for Korea with N/Korean and S/Korean forces. I think should be another expansion pack for A2 just like arrowhead was :rolleyes: Sorry for drifting off topic:butbut:

    Kind of like in VBS2 where you can see the unit you selected in a 3d screen, really usefull.

    How about battle for baghdad. at night. AI team leader. rifle teams moving through city with APC's. Enemy soldiers are in fortified positions (MG nests etc..) all around. A few IED's laying around. Helos overhead blowing the crap out of things (make playable one of each type of unit:D). AA guns shooting at planes. LOT OF TRACERS!!! (like we saw on tv news reports):bounce3: Maybe the objective is to reach the centre of Baghdad and must complete some side objectives along the way e.g. destroy AA guns...:rolleyes: Dunno if you've got the time or not but would love to see a mision like this. There is a Baghdad map from Generation kill mod, can't remember if any Iraqi soldier addons. Have fun:cool:

    Editor upgrade / additions

    I cannot understand why some people like to think that you should have to learn how to script to be able to make advanced missions. Why should a customer have to spend a year to learn how to use the full potential of a product. That is just like selling an oven without an instruction manual. It is a ridiculous argument to say such a thing. I'm sure it would be perfectly easy to add lots of modules (basically scripts that you don't have to type anything for) to the game. What about a module for "respawn west" and all the units you wish to respawn could be synched with this module and voila! Same can be done with either side. This means that you can create a lot more varied mission without having to spending your entire social life sat behind a desk. There are a lot of possibilities here and i really like using the modules in game at the moment as it means that i can make use of some more of the editors features.

    Improved unit editor

    Not sure if this has already been said but i think there needs to be a much easier way of adding a briefing and mission objectives to your mission for the beginner editors (like me). Just like how you see the official missions in the scenarios section (picture, description). In the editor where you select the weather and so on there should be a section of create briefing, upload mission image, write mission description. You should be able to place an objective on the map and then sync it to a unit. There should be an option when you open the editor which says create campaign or create mission so when you save the missions, they all go in a folder under scenarios and they are all automatically linked together. This would make mission creation a lot easier without the use of 3rd party addons.

  23. Hi everybody, I am new to these forums, i have been lurking around a while and have been very intersted in the ARMA series. I played Arma 1 and OpF. Just a question on whether my pc (in sig) would be able to run ArmA 2 and OA and at what levels. If not, what would i need to upgrade. Thanks
