  1. What are you on about? Maybe I am imagining things but I stole a dead guys uniform earlier. Edit: Nevermind, I might have found one spawned instead of off a dead guy. But anyway, I think the geneva convention remark in the interview (I just read it) is a joke. The technical reasons make sense. With all that said, I would love this sort of thing. Would make special forces missions interesting, especially if you appeared to the AI as being on their side.

    I just checked SteamDB.info and it says this happened 14 hours ago. Not 100% sure what this means but to me it seems to suggest something has changed.
  3. And you just switch it off if it is broken and it gets the right exe again.. The same way it works with other games that do it (and have more players than ArmA) like TF and CSGO.
  4. Even if it is built into A3 already IMO (and my opinion may be awful) CBA should have the same functions as before, even if they just call the built in ones. Just to make porting scripts / mods from A2 to A3 easier.

    No idea what this command does https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/addItemCargoGlobal but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it. I suspect this is the reason why global versions of some commands exist.
  6. Checking this list first might be a good idea. Some of the commands aren't explained very well but you should be able to get the gist of what they do from their name.
  7. PhysX and the fact PhysX can run on a graphics card are two slightly different things. You can use the PhysX physics engine without it running on a graphics card. I have played games which refuse to do physics processing on a GPU despite it using PhysX and my card supporting it.

  9. At the moment it seems like the gun config specifies an exact class name it can have mounted on it. I haven't actually poked around with it yet (just about to) but I would be surprised if it really is implemented like this. Would be a massive shame, I was hoping for the ability to just add any optic of a supported type onto a gun.
  10. For the people who are worrying about the release time and steams usual update time: One of valves new steam features is the ability for developers to push new updates when they please. As it stands ArmA3 is on the steam CDR so it is possible BI can hand out keys for it to download even though it does not appear to be in the store. It actually says avaliable now, but that site is based purely on the data behind steam, not what the store says. Also the steam hub page is up: http://steamcommunity.com/app/107410/

    I personally wouldn't call it exclusive unless you can only buy it from steam, but it is as I said purely a semantic issue. No idea what he was going on about the 90s though, pretty sure the definition hasn't changed in the last 20 years.

    So you have an issue with a developer giving away something that is usually kept behind closed doors? Would you rather pre-order it now and get nothing for months and then get an extremely buggy unpolished game with no community support ready?

    No but its a sign that it works for a large number of people. Then again I have never had any issue (either technical or moral) with any distribution platform, I will install any distribution platform to get a game I want. I just find it silly that people are planning to not buy a game that they clearly looking forward to over such a small issue. Yes steam does have its downsides (in an ideal world we wouldn't need any sort of DRM but this isn't an ideal world) but it is no where near as bad as some people in this community are making out. Its not even the worst choice, I am sure everyone has experienced the wonderful pleasure of using starforce. Aside from that it seems the other big issue people have with steam is the steamworks features, which is even stupider as its not all or nothing there are games out there that use one or two features of steamworks (like just the CEG stuff for DRM). I even read one post a few hundred pages back about people being worried about VAC, last I checked VAC only worked on the source engine and one or two other engines (Unreal?). I agree people should have a choice about how they get their games but it did seem clear from the blog post that they had very little other choice, and as I said its not exactly the most evil option out there. And one more semi-related thing I will get in here before this thread gets locked (as it should), some of the attitudes on this forum is utterly amazing. Seriously, ArmA being exposed to the wider world via steam won't bring in an invasion of morons like people seem to think. Do people actually belive that people just randomly buy games on steam just to annoy people? Even if it did bring some undesirable people to ArmA, so what? The way some people act like ArmA should be a closed off small community that no one is allowed to join is sickening. It makes everyone who plays ArmA look seriously stuck up (Someone actually used those exact words when telling me why they would not buy ArmA2 despite thinking they would enjoy it). I apologize to everyone for the minor rant there but I have read a lot of posts in this thread and it has seriously annoyed me. As someone who has played BI games for a very long time (lot longer than I have had a forum account) it is sad to see that the community acts like this. I disagree, steam exclusive to me means that it can only be purchased on Steam but at the end of the day its an issue of semantics.

    Steam exclusive is the wrong phrase here, it appears you will be able to buy it directly from BI or from a store that is not steam exclusive. A game that uses steamworks is not steam exclusive, just as a game that uses GFWL is not GFWL exclusive. I know its a minor detail but it does seem that is some peoples issue with A3 on steam, which is a non issue for that reason.

    I personally have not encountered anyone having any trouble with steam in all the years I have used steam. There might be people out there who have issues with steam but no one I personally know has ever experienced any issue with steam (beyond the crap that was steam friends before they pulled their finger out but I really don't think that counts).

    This has never ever happened with steam, and if it did happen you would have grounds to sue VALVe. Most of the problems I see that this community have with steam all come from complete and utter ignorance of it and how it works. I can't believe that some people are planning to not buy ArmA 3 purely because it has steam, in some cases its just because they don't use steam. I have had steam running on every computer I have owned non stop for the past ~9 years and have never experienced any of the problems people here have claimed, or know anyone who has suffered those problems.
  17. This has been annoying me with the spectator script I use at the moment so now seems like a good time to ask. Do I just call that function when the players are killed (and I guess the same in reverse when they are revived)?
  18. Adjust the volumes. Its been a while since I have played as an RTO with a number of people but I usually turn town the volume on the less "important" radio. I am going to guess that being able to listen to multiple radios and understand what is going on is the real skill RTOs have.

  20. So I had an idea to try out room clearing on Cinder City with a friend. It went surprisingly well. Well it started surprisingly well anyway.. (on a side note, I have been fiddling with my codec settings. Does it look okay to other people?)

  22. Okay I have a real challenge for you lot / NoU. Someone I play with has an "interesting" issue, they hear a (very) loud and constant buzzing whenever people use radios. However it seems we can stop it but we aren't sure what we are doing that causes it to stop. Sometimes dropping radios fixes it, other times if the person who is hearing the buzzing holds down caps for a short period of time it goes away next time someone talks on the radio. Any idea? They have tried to reinstall ACRE which didn't help. They sent me a sound recording of it I can upload if you want to hear it. (Personally at first I thought their headset was dying, hence the sound clip)
  23. Well I am trying to sharpen up my PHP skills again so I might consider writing plugins for other forum software in the near future. After all, the logic is exactly the same its just the weird little "features" of each softwares plugin system that I would need to adjust for.
  24. So I am in the process of starting a community with a few people. Till recently we had been manually editing our Squad.XML file every time we wanted to add a new person to it or change any little detail I felt it would be a good idea to be able to automatically manage it with a forum plugin for our forum software of choice (MyBB). Kinda inspired by the person who did something similar for phpBB. So without much further ado I preset mySquadXML. Its a very simple plugin for MyBB which automatically generates a SquadXML from the forums user list if they are in certain groups. I am mostly posting it here as I would like some feedback as I have not written any PHP for a few years and am a bit rusty. But also I am hoping that it might be of use to anyone else out there who is running MyBB.
