    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Power isn't everything, once you pass a certain point you won't get any benefit out of the power you stick in. That said, the 148 can actually go up to 50W with the right equipment. Which leads me to a question, Nou / Jaynus is there any chance that in the future we will get any radio accessories like the Thales MA7035? I can't find much information about it but it basically seems to be a rucksack that the radio slips into and turns it into a manpack radio with increased power. IMO it would be a great stop gap before you add "proper" manpacks in the end as it doesn't seem like it would be too much work for you (the radio integration doesn't seem to go beyond just letting the power go up to 20w) Whilst dreaming about crazy ideas, will we ever see satellite radio simulated in ACRE? It would be an easy solution for getting around distance and mountains!!

If you haven't tried this already, set your Windows volume to 100% and then seriously lower ArmA (to like 10%?), then as you play lower the Windows volume till its acceptable for you. It fixed it for me, I dunno if it will work for everyone though.

I have well and truly solved it, for myself anyway. I set my headset volume to 100% in Windows (never done that before..) and then turned the ArmA volume right down. Since doing that I can hear people perfectly. Makes me wonder, does ACRE assume the volume is 100% when it does the volume changes to simulate people being in the 3D space.

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Came to a quick soultion(ish) for me, I happened to have a cheap USB sound card lying around, I currently have earphones plugged into that and and set up in TS and I am able to hear people better. I wouldn't be able to say for sure if its louder or just the lack of background noise.

I wonder.. What sound equipment are people with the super quiet bug using? Personally I am using a GameCom 780 with generic CMedia drivers (as opposed to the real plantronics drivers). I mention the drivers as this is what got me thinking, 3 other people in my small "community" all have the same headset I do but they use the plantronics drivers and they do not suffer the super quiet problem.

Just spawn ACRE_PRC343 or ACRE_PRC148 and ACRE will handle the rest. As I understand it, the IDs are to get around the fact that ArmA doesn't let you save variables for an instance of an item. So to have unique settings each radio has to have a unique class for each one.

Is there anyway to solve the extreme quietness? Not sure if its something all the people I play with doing something wrong or if something is wrong.. Like to the point where I have to set my windows vol to 100% and set TS to +20db to be able to barely hear people in game. Also is this a bug or a feature: Some kind of intercom between crew slots in vehicles? I might have missed it but I didn't see this documented but its kinda neat.

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Oops, brain fart there! All these numbers have me confused.. But yeah that is what I am wondering, using the same system from ACRE1 to 2 seems to cause issues. I am guessing its because its saving an item called (for example) ACRE_PRC343_ID_1 or whatever. I might experiment a bit and have it replace it with the generic radio (as I guess it should be) and see if that makes a difference.

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

I have a simple script which takes peoples gear and lets them load / save it, at the moment it just takes the class names and saves it. I wonder is this the right way to do it for ACRE3? Should I check if I am saving a radio and do something differently? When I tested it a couple of days ago I seemed to have an issue where people did not get their radios when they reloaded their loadout.

Are you in multi player? Might be a silly question but it doesn't work in SP and I dunno about others but it is usually where I quickly test things so that stumped me briefly.

This would be really neat, both from a realism point of view (being as feature complete as possible) and an actual usefulness in missions (preventing accidental re-programming of radios and losing important frequencies).

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Ah that all makes much more sense, I did get the feeling that I was poking around in places that shouldn't be poked around in :P I might look at the preset system but the problem is what I am thinking about doing is a lot more adhoc then just at the mission start. Ill see though, it might just work. Exposing the ability to set channel data (easily) from a mission would be great if you are able to do that. I am pretty much hoping to be able to "program" the radios remotely / externally. I am more or less just messing around with ideas right now though, so if you aren't able to implement that ability then I don't have any problem with figuring out crazy hacky work arounds (its been quite fun so far..) just to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks for the quick and detailed response though! (And if I didn't already mention it, thank you for the work so far on ACRE. I love your attention to little details and accuracy. It really piques my secret inner radio-nerd.)
  13. It does have a lot of stuff that makes CBA obsolete but it doesn't mean stuff that requires CBA will magically work without it.. If I recall correctly anyway it kind of did work. At least that was a while ago.

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Hey Nou I have yet another question about the API. I know you are busy with actual user problems but if you get a moment a solution to this would be great, I have some ideas I want to test out. From what I have seen so far though its pretty amazing. I love how simple it is. My problem is this, I am trying to use "setChannelData" and I am just confused as to what to pass it (in terms of channel hash). I tried passing it an array with a channel id and what I have gotten from getChannelData and it just seems to break the radio. Am I being dumb and missing something really simple? Also at the moment I just want to pass the radio some new channel data, do I need to send every parameter or can I just send what I want to change (like just CTCSSTx/CTCSSRx for example). (Oh and also is the hash thing just an array of [[key1,key2],[value1,value2]] etc? I wish to be able to craft my own hashes externally)

Is the (non mission) API accessible from anything other than the radios itself? I cannot seem to find a way to be able to set frequencies on a radio for example.

    ACRE2 Public Beta Release

Hey Nou, what is the best way to programmatically (is that even a word..) "program" radios? Should the old API method of default channels be used or is the new API better for this? I am confused by all the mentions of channel hash's but there doesn't seem to be any documentation of this (or am I just missing it?). I updated last night and was wondering WTF had happened with it, you can change it back with a couple of clicks though. No idea what the fuck the designers at TS were thinking though...
  17. From what I have seen and what Nou has said it seems that ACRE2 will be really simple unless you want to dive in and play with the complex features.
  18. To be fair hanging onto "at this stage" wouldn't be too unreasonable, don't forget that they changed their mind on upgrading previous customers.
  19. Just out of interest Nou, what is it that has been added in the dev branch that you require?
  20. Purely client side, however you might need to change some spam settings on the server if your server mentions anything about messages being blocked.
  21. If you have VBS2, check the BISIM forum. There's a post explaining how to update your HASP key to allow you to use VBS2 2.0 and VBS3 (when the links get posted).
  22. For that last issue, have you tried using get/setVariable on the object, it should allow you to store variables on each individual object. If you do that though make sure you read the note on the wiki about setVariable being local unless you pass it another value to make it global and synced. As for the vanilla GPS still being usable, if I remember rightly someone a couple of pages back made a tiny mod to the previous version to fix that. Might be worth looking at that.
  23. Hey Nou I keep hearing and seeing stuff about data, does this suggest being able to use ACRE radios to communicate things other than voice in the future? It'd be neat if other addons could use the radio simulation as a means for communication. I have many ideas if that's planned..
  24. Hey Nou I'm curious, do you have multiple ArmA copies running to allow you to test or is there something else going on?

LEA - Loadout Editor for ArmA 3

This might be a really odd request but it is possible that you could add a checkbox option when generating a loadout sqf to not remove and replace a units goggles / glasses? I ask purely as the community I play with like to have a tiny bit of uniqueness about their player model but still wish to use LEA.
