  1. Hi,

    Ok... we saw:

    RAH-66;

    Merkava 4 with Trophy and pulse gun;

    A blend of Mi-28/Ka-52;

    Iranian futuristic soldiers driving IDF vehicles;

    Fictive boat

    ...

    How I could create a Cold war or today scenarios with that stuff? Please tell me...

    90% of what I saw will be unusable for something else than the future.

    Thank you,

    -Luc-

    How do you create future war with OFP stuff?

    You don't like the setting? Don't buy the game, they are not catering to "hard-core, manly men only like 'nam stuff with 'nam weapons" crowd this time. You have OFP and ArmA to create whatever scenario you wish, no need to copy paste the setting here too when they finally can create a setting they are interested in.

  2. My experience also, some work the way they are supposed to but other times I cannot for the life of me work out what I have done wrong and I count myself pretty clued up on games and windows having played (and modded) PC games for 15 years.

    I still cant get the B52 mod working :mad: .. But i persist because I love the game, but if that persistance was instead funneled 100% into the actual game itself, it would be even more enjoyable!

    Perhaps the problem is within the mod?

    Any good mod gives you a readme that will get the thing working.

    Although there are a lot of good mods that are dependent on too many things, like ACRE so if something goes wrong, you'll never know what it is.

  3. tl;dr

    Just saying I am sure BIS employees has been notified that some people have problems installing mods, but those are still third party addons and not related to BIS in anyway.

    However I would like if they added an automatic patcher while in-game and thus mod creators could release patches with an ease without the need of third party programs such as SixUpdater.

    But then again, most of the addons you need to download are large and require the restart of the game since they modify the base files.

  4. Speaking of attention span (of a potatoe), did you actually read what you quoted?

    "Being an Arma / Windows / Mod install geek does not mean your valuable player"

    You have to be a geek to understand simple english language, that is always presented in notepads in major mods?

    If you fail to read a notepad, how likely you are going to be a valuable player in a dedicated game series such as ArmA?

    Did you actually read what you quoted? It weeds out the idiots and people with no real interest in playing the game with mods.

    By the nature of the game, BIS will not most likely get much larger audience no matter how simple the mod downloading is. The series is tedious to people who are used to fast, simple, easy and arcade games.

    Then again I don't play on public servers so my view can be different from many other views but it is still my opinion and you must accept it.

  5. You realise the arma video sounds like absolute dogs balls compared with the rl videos you posted, i.e. they sound nothing alike.

    I'd like you to try shooting a gun. Have you ever shot a gun? They make a hugeass sound that deafens you for awhile. Would it be nice to play deaf from the gun blast just so you can simulate war?

  6. @Primark : Being an Arma / Windows / Mod install geek does not mean your valuable player. And not knowing how to install a mod when there are no official guides does not mean your of no use once in the game.

    Arma series is IMO the greatest creation ever let down by two things..

    1. Small player base

    2. Bugs

    Bugs get fixed over time so isn't so much of an issue, player base however dwindles over time so you need as many players as possible. If half (IMO more) get put off by silly things like how to install mods or keep them up to date then that is a real shame.

    Empty servers are no fun!

    It weeds out the idiots and people with an attention span of a potato. (read: dedicated CoD/Battlefield players)

  7. @ El Muerko : Yeah but your one of the few users who has learned how to navigate the minefield that is mod installing. If this game is to get bigger then u need to be able to support the new fans who don't wana use an external downloaded / launcher. How many potential fans get put off by this do you think?

    The minute you hav to doanything that is external from the game or undocumented you probably loose half, if not more of potential players on that server.

    That moment those half of players are not going to grief on your server.

    Do you seriously think those people actually bring anything good to your server if they aren't going to even install mods.

  8. You know - there already exist the Photo-Stealth Camouflage Technology or Active Camouflage

    Basicly that Technology is blending into your environment ,which creates perfect camo - sure it don't work 100% at the monent ,but in the future it can be done ;)

    It works 100%, on a nano scale and from only from a certain angle.

    The active camouflage is for the next 10-20 years just sci-fi from the current viewpoint.

  9. Pretty impractical i think considering the file sizes of e.g. ACE2 with more than 1.5 GB data and especially with constant updates etc...

    Plus it would stress the servers even more if players download the mod while other players play online. Expect lag spikes, more hardware failures etc etc..

    I wish there was a way to do this, but this way wont work, sorry.

    Absolutely those constant updates should be automatically downloaded.

    Perhaps the mod management should be changed like, you download the mod and then whenever a mod gets an update, the server owner can decide whether to upload the patch to the people joining in your server.

  10. PMC showed the possibility in an official mission, but the feature is there nevertheless. Why should a single .50 cal round fired from a semiautomatic rifle damage a tank all the while a hail of .50 cal rounds fired from a heavy machine gun shouldn't?

    Because the HMG rounds are different shape, weight and speed.

  11. I'm actually considering buying TOH for the simple fact that I find flying in sims enjoyable and I'll take any excuse to support BIS...although I can say with a great deal of certainty that I'm not going to buy or play carrier command.

    I'll buy the CC only if it has same physics fidelity as Men Of War series.

  12. Could you use your other hand? :yay:

    Sure, just to contribute the thread I'll say playing ArmA 2 didn't change the way I think about anything at all. Perhaps it made me think how much wasted potential the multiplayer is. I for one am perhaps the only one who plays an FPS accordingly to its playstyle in this thread, playing other FPS or RTS don't matter how I play ArmA and vice-versa.

  13. I really hope that BIS will do a LOT of optimizing and improving, because the current engine runs far from smoothly. Not saying that it's a bad engine, just that it would give BIS a lot of bad press if they'd keep the same engine and not make it run a LOT better.

    They have done something very critical to campaign that will smooth out the experience a lot; De-activating enemies that are on the other side of the map so they won't use resources and only activate if the player is getting close. This makes it so that there's no stupid bugs that are not easy to reproduce due to AI decisions and that close AI to player is working much more efficiently. This is going to be a module probably because it won't be on by default in editor.

  14. I've installed FaceTrack, applied the latest patch, but upon startup, I'm getting an "Application was not started correctly (0xc000001d). Press OK to terminate the application." error. It appears twice. I'm using Manta Plako webcam, which is advertised to work without drivers or any sort (it seems to, at least Windows recognizes it). I'm running Win XP Home edition, 32bit version.

    Does anyone knows how to fix that?

    Perhaps the program does not support your processor as that is illegal instruction code.

  15. the detail for animation in 1st person and third are miles away for most games. (for instance switching fire mode, reload animations, etc) are simplified for 3rd person view (even if we are talking about a game where you can't see yourself, but only others players - BFBC, Crysis, FC2 etc).

    There is no constrain when it comes to ragdoll though, and having the entire body modelled in 1st person view. What i am trying to say that there aren't a lot of developers going "full body" for all the other reasons, but not ragdoll

    Crysis has really good 1st person ragdoll/ full body simulation.

  16. I would like to see multiplayer issues like warping and warping get fixed so that we can hopefully play in multiplayer without losing all immersion in the warping bullshit. I don't care if there won't be PVP player base boost but I care if I can not play with a few friends in the same city in a dedicated server without warping against AI.

  17. Visually it looks quite nice.

    On a technical level its useless... As bad as the "thermal" in dr/rr

    Terrain has no heat, vehicles have uniform heat all over and are considerably hotter than the surrounding buildings and terrain (none of which have heat, meaning all vehicles and infantry are basically lit up "here I am, I'm a target!" which is not how it works in real life), vehicles dont leave hot tracks, dust they kick up is cold, the A-10's cast a crisp clean shadow...

    So yeah, there is plenty wrong with the BF3 "Thermal"

    The same as Arma 2.

  18. Those BF3 "FLIR" (or so they call it) are ugly as fuck.

    Not at all... Seems like all you guys wish to bash the game just for the sake of bashing it. How about we find good sides of ArmA 3 and not the bad sides of BF3?
