    Getting past Contract 6 Help

You start with a half full fuel tank because you're supposed to have limited fuel in that mission. I've flown this mission several times (last time being yesterday, first time in the beta) and never ran out of fuel. So you definatly have enough fuel for the mission. You will run low on fuel and you have to take additional fuel to fly home but you should be able to make it to that point in the mission without a problem. Just fly the mission without going off course for too long. You should patch the game btw (unless you bought it off steam and it patches itself).

    Getting past Contract 6 Help

That's intentional. You shouldn't run out of fuel in that mission. It's been some months since I flew that mission though - may be a patch changed something. I will fly the mission later and report back. €dit: There is nothing wrong with the mission. Everything works just fine. Maybe you did a bit of unnecessary sightseeing? You need to take fuel later on but you should be able to make it easily to that point without running out of fuel

Arma 3 Community Alpha - Announcement!

I also like my hard copy. That's why I bought TOH twice. I guess I'm going to do the same with A3.

Did you update TOH to v1.03? Looking at the severe ground effect in the landing tutorial I'd assume you didn't. Also try the latest Beta-Patch (requires 1.03) for FM updates and Coffee

    Wargame: European Escalation Gameplay

This game looks interesting. I havent played a RTS/RTT in a while. The last one was WiC where I had a lot of fun playing CWs and later Match Making when CWs were harder to find. Public MP was really bad most of the time. One experienced CW player on one side could usually dominate the opposing team and ruin it for everyone (not to mention all the idiots who had no clue what to do). CWs and MM on the other hand were something completely different. You played much more as a team and you gave a rats ass about score - only winning was important which changed the gameplay a lot. CWs were much more fun and made me a lot better at WiC.

    Time Trials: Death Valley

NP ;-) As far as I am concerned only the two mentioned time trials really need to be looked into. All the others are good as they are. They vary in difficulty quite nicely. I've logged many hours in TOH last week and my flying has become better and better. Things that may look easy in my videos don't necessarily are all that easy. For example, maintaining a high speed in turns ( , ) or in tricky transitions between two CPs (Crane Blame, The Elder Run, ) requires a lot of practice and control. I tried to beat the TTs back in december but my flying wasn't good enough for most of them. Now that I'm able to land my helicopter wherever and whenever I want (well, most of the time :p) I decided to try again.I will keep flying Death Valley over and over again and I'm definately going to upload the video once I manage it.
  10. MeerCaT brings up some very good points. It really comes down to practice. However, there are a few things you can do to make things easier. First of all, if you didn't already do it, update your game to 1.03 and I also recommend the latest Beta-Patch which brings the latest FM changes among other things. You can find it here: http://takeonthegame.com/download/beta-patches/ Then you want to make sure the game is running at a reasonable framerate. Below 30fps you get noticable input lag and below 20fps, hovering becomes extremely difficult. I tweaked my graphicsettings in a way that I get a minimum of 25fps on Seattle. Finally, make sure that your joystick is properly set up. Deadzones should be off or at a minimum and sensitivity should be linear (default), but you can tweak it to suit your personal style. If you don't have pedals and use a twist joystick you should set the deadzone for your z-axis high enough so you don't accidentally apply pedal. I would recommend you concentrate on the light heli first. It's the easiest to fly. Here are some good instructional videos by a real pilot that show how to do a normal landing approach in TOH: http://www.youtube.com/user/MD500Enthusiast/

    Time Trials: Death Valley

I don't think that the time trials need to be reworked. They're pretty good as they are. Maybe tweak the time on Cool Runnings and Dam Course because both of them can be flown much much faster than required for gold. Here is what I think about the TTs in detail: TT01: Dances with Trees is a very fast time trial with some tricky bends. It's a nice challenge but not too hard to beat. Flying as fast as possible is essential. TT02: Railroaded, even though it features some very tight turns, needs to be flown at a fast pace (to beat gold) and is one of the more difficult time trials. TT03: A Bridge To Far is one of the time trials which require very high speeds throughout the entire course, making it one of the most challenging time trials even though the course isn't very difficult. TT04: Crane Blame is probably the second most difficult time trial to beat. It features two very tricky parts that need to be flown perfectly at high speeds around 125knots. A Joystick is most likely essential to beat this time trial because it requires very precise control on collective and pedals. TT05: Ursa Major is a nice, challenging time trial. Once you know the course it's not too hard to beat, but it is one of the more difficult time trials to fly. TT06: Cool Runnings is not the most difficult but by far the most enjoyable time trial. I love drifting through the tight turns in the first half. With a bit of practice it is very easy to stay under 1:10min so I think the time required for gold (1:17min) should be reduced. TT07: The Elder Run is the longest time trial. Checkpoints are very stretched with two very tricky parts that require precise control on collective and pedals (two very close CPs each). It requires very fast speeds around 140knots throughout the entire course which makes it rather difficult to beat. TT08: Wild Wild East is a fast course with many long turns making it one of the easier time trials. TT09: Dam Course is by far the easiest time trial. You don't need to fly very fast nor do you need to fly perfectly. The course isn't very challenging and I would recommend to begin with this time trial to get a feel for it. Like Cool Runnings BIS should consider to tweak the time limit to make it a bit more challenging. TT10: Death Valley. What can I say? This course together with the time limit of 0:46min is MENTAL! There is no other way to describe it. I don't know how often I crashed because of retreating blade stall. In order to achieve top times you need to push the light heli as far as possible. I guess you need an absolutely perfect run to stay under 46 seconds.

Take on Helicopters: Social Media pictures

Now I want to know; what excactly went wrong?!?! :D Looking great!
  14. interesting. Something I just noticed: Cars glow (not only headlights, the entire car) when you use nightvision goggles. I don't really care if that can or will be fixed. Just wanted to let you know. See this video: o9vpF3Oy1Vk
  15. Ok now it's almost impossible. I still managed a hover for about 15s (collective almost fully raised, almost 100% left pedal) but then the heli started to make worrying noises xD About the time trial Cool Runnings: Maybe you can tweak the time a little? I constantly stay below 1:10min. The other time trials are harder to beat. I'm currently flying Ursa Major and it is a real pain in the a**. Good job on that one! I just beat silver^^
  16. I always remove the FDM mods when I load betas for testing ;) I take back most of my criticism. Only I still think torque induced yaw should be a little more distinct during hover.
  17. I'm sorry about this post. ;) It's bollocks. I will avoid that in future. Still I'm not entirely happy with it. I don't know ... 15% in a hover seems very low. I was doing slingload operations before I posted and it required only very little input. When I set the weight of the med heli higher it feels more how I would expect it to be and is actually pretty good. In all the videos I watched the pilots seem to apply a lot more pressure in a hover than 15%. Torque induced yaw like it is in the light heli in 1.03 seems pretty good to me. Yes there is torque induced yaw, it's just that I think it should be a little more noticable. I'm flying with community patch 3 in that video and I screwed up. That's why you see this. I screwed up around CP 4. After that I struggled a little bit and missed the timings for the following CPs. You don't usually need pedals after CP 5 but I made mistakes and tried to save my run (in my other videos you can sometimes see accidental pedal input too because I still have no pedals). I'm now at 1:05min for Cool Runnings. Btw hover out of ground effect in the light Heli with weight set to 600 is no problem in this beta (collective raised ~70-80%) but it's tricky to maintain (heli is a bit twitchy with so much weight). With a little added weight (passengers, cargo or weight set in editor) it is a lot better, but still. The AH6 feels a little light considering all the ammo it carries. btw, with Community Patch 3 and 1.03 it's the opposite. You almost always have to apply left pedal, even in a fast forward flight which is really weird^^ Again, sorry I exaggerated so much. €dit: mhhh. I don't know ... I will do some runs without.

    Take On: Hinds!

I don't know about Lock-On (only have DCS: A-10C WH and I'm thinking about BS2) but DCS is a simulator whereas TOH is a simulation game. Just keep that in mind. The newest changes on the FM are only in beta, so I hope that BIS will do the right thing and provide an authentic FM. On this channel you can find some really great videos of TOH: www.youtube.com/user/hon0p/featured And here are some of mine:

    Take On: Hinds!

You shouldn't expect avionics and weaponsystems as detailed as they're in DCS. TOH is all about the experience of flying a helicopter. With the latest Patch (1.03) and Community Patch 3 the light heli is a lot of fun. Sadly, the changes on the FM in the current Beta-Patches are not good overall. They increased sensitivity (which is good) but at the same time they reduced torque induced yaw so much that it is barely noticeable to make keyboard&mouse players happy. If they want to make TOH playable for kb&m on Expert they definately need to add a new difficulty setting or an option to enable/disable torque induced yaw. TOH bundle is currently available from sprocket for 39.09€ (25% off; TAKEONBUNDLE15) sprocketidea.com
  20. Patch 1.03 has it but sadly in the latest betas BIS decided to reduce torque induced yaw a lot to accommodate kb&m players. However, they improved responsiveness of the controls so flying the MD 500 with the latest betas and Community Patch 3 is fun. I just hope they will implement a new difficulty option that enables/disables torque induced yaw. The way they are going atm with the betas regarding the FM is worrying.

    Getting past Contract 6 Help

display hud panel is rctrl+h btw. On Expert difficulty you have to enable "Allow full HUD info" in the difficulty options to see it.
  22. I just took the med helicopter for a spin and to be honest there isn't really anything positive to say about how the FM develops. Torque induced yaw is practically non-existent... This needs to change. Be it a new difficulty setting or an added option to enable/disable torque effects. The light heli with this Beta and CP 3 is very enjoyable to fly. 1.03 was a big improvement but the latest betas are steps back regarding FM changes. I understand that this is to enable kb&m on expert but for everyone who likes an authentic flight experience in a helicopter this is disappointing. I don't have the time to fiddle with the flightmodel myself and I'm certainly not the right person to do so (not a pilot here). Plus, I don't think it is the community's job to provide an authentic FM. So for the love of God, do something before you push out the next official patch/TOH:Hinds. Please!

Does anybody know how many DoF A3 will have?

wat? You know they're not talking about depth of field, right?
  24. Two more time trials. Dances With Trees (1:48) and Railroaded (1:54) rJ03pPB7ydw WY_juyqCSt8
  25. I will upload more videos of time trials soon. Maybe you can learn something, even though I fly with Community Patch 3 ;) I just finished Dances with Trees and I will record more. I think a joystick is a huge advantage when you fly TTs
