    Ghost AI

    Hi, I encountered a ghosted AI while playing online last night. I already had encountered some invincible AI before where they just don't seem to die, but I see now the AI men has turned into a ghost statue. Watch the short clip. Was lagging in the clip, but it is just to show the glitch. some other players did not seem to notice the ghosted AI as they were running past it as if the AI men was not there. I first tried to kill that AI guy from half a click distance, but he just kept standing there, so when I walked up close to inspect, the AI men was a statue ghost. Weird stuff :)

  3. I have the exact same problem, tried even different converters. One of the free converters displays a bitrate error, but I tried it with many different sounds. I have pretty much given up on custom sounds... __ created a.wav with audacity, used a free converter to .ogg, placed the .ogg in the mission sound folder and added the sound in the trigger, used the code mentioned above in the .ext and still it can't find the sound.

  5. Hi, I have searched the forum to find what I am looking for, but after browsing +60 threads I havent found the awnser, hence this new thread. I am looking for a way to change the AO marker colour from red to green when the area is captured (like in MP Domination). So I have placed some opfor troops in a town and the town has a red solid marker around the town and when my team has eliminated the troops I want the marker to change to green or when my team has captured key buildings. I am hoping that it does not require a seperate .ext file, because thats when the scripting trouble usually starts for me :) I assume it needs a trigger 'siezed by' switch with some scripting in the 'on act'? I also looked in the scripting guide, but could not find anything about that either. Can anyone point me in the right direction or even better can some one write the code so that I can paste in to the trigger or/and .ext? Scripting is really not my thing, but I so want to finish the mission I am working on.

Reminds me instantly of COD with tons of bunny hopping teens :P ---------- Post added at 10:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 AM ---------- I am having problems with moving men/troops inside buildings (not sure if this a bug). I am very happy with this new feature where you can place men on different positions in buildings, but it is not working very well so far. There is a large building where I want to place some opfor men inside. The building has 23 different positions inside where you can order the men to go. When I order (waypoint) the men (no group) to move inside all to a different position they all end up at the same position, while I ordered them to all to different positions in the building. When I try it with 2 men it works most of the time, but when I order more men and especially at the same time in the building at different positions it gets messed up and they end up all at the same spot... and some times not even in the building , but in front of the building.

    Hi thanks for the reply and tips. Were you really lagging that much? I personally lag just as much in the official missions. The problem I found with ambient civs and vehicles is that when you place one module there are not enough walking around (visible). Takistan feels like a deserted land with empty ghost towns, so I added a bunch more modules and even some civs groups with waypoints. That was also the point of placing the planes with waypoints. It is just cool to look at when you drive around in your tank and and a big c-130 flies over, makes the environment more dynamic I think. I did not gave the team mates I used much thought lol (will change that) so I ended up using some gunners, medics, AT's and snipers (my fav units). I used more then average amount of team mates so that you can form a armored platoon with enough men to drive and use the guns. I had no idea there is an "urban patrol and "cached units" scripts. Like I said in my opening post, my scripting skills are more or less zero. I know how to script radio support and thats it :) Would love to know how you hide cities. I will test with the high command module a bit and see if the AI still behaves and moves how I want them. I used all the waypoints to make sure the AI is where I want them and doing what I had in my mind. But I guess it is not very efficient :P I personally had quite some fun with the mission, Ill make some adjustments so that it is more playable for everyone. Thanks for the feedback :)
  8. Yay my first full OA mission! :) This mission does not contain an intro nore a mission briefing. Here below is a brief description of this mission. You start at a temporary US base that immediately gets attacked by both opfor and guerilla forces. You need to protect the base and especially the armored vehicles and choppers (you will need them in the mission). When you succesfully have defended the base you can move on to the main and secondary objectives. Main objective: Opfor has taken control over multiple towns in our sector. Your job is to sweep the towns marked on thew map and eliminate all hostiles you encounter. Secondary objective: Reports have come in about a high level of guerilla activity around the marked towns. They most likely have set up a small base in one of the small villages and coordinate assaults and ambushes from there. Intelligence has suggested to investigate the area near the large mountain pass. Satelite images has shown possible static defence and small bunkers in that area. Be on the look out for road ambushes! *available radio support: UAV, Artillery, supply drop, transport. You can only choose 1 of the support options. After activating one of the options you can no longer use radio support. You have a lot of freedom in this mission. I do have set up waypoints you can follow, but you can choose to do the mission in a different order. All of the men in your team are playable so you can re-arm them all to your own liking (all weapons are available). Now I am not much of a scripter (understatement), but still this mission offer a lot of combat fun with for example nice suprise ambushes. The mission is playable (SP & coop) as normal infantry where you can use a helicoptor or a truck for transport or you can choose to play it as an armored platoon (the easy way). Mission duration approximately 3 to 5 hours. Let me know what you think! The big sweep Ok in response to the feedback I have edited the mission and made it more efficient and low lag (most of the way points and modules are removed). I have also changed the team formation. The most important parts and the objectives are still the same. I experience some lag the first 10 to 15 seconds because everything needs to load, but after that and especially after killing the hostiles that attack the base at the start of the mission it is running smoothly for me. Have a go at this updated version: The big sweep V3 And don't dissect the mission, just play it. You have more fun that way :)

    You know, I do wonder how much the devs tested (or hired testers) OA before the release. Some of the bugs are pretty obvious and easy to discover after just playing for a few hours. The most obvious one is indeed the rock bouncing bug that I encounter after only 10 minutes playing a MP mission. Not meaning to rant, just wondering out loud.

    Ahh ok, thanks for clearing that up. It does look weird though in OA where they are proned on sand without vegitation. A new thing that I noticed in MP mode is that when I take out armored vehicles including the crewmen it does not count up/show in the statistics a lot of the time. So I am playing for an hour as an AT unit and still have zero kills behind my name while I destroyed half a dozen tanks and the crewmen inside.

    Not sure to place this in the suggestion thread or here, so feel free to move this post Mod. At longer distances prone infantry men appear to be under ground, only their heads stick out of the ground. I would like to see that changed so that I can see the men actually lying on the ground.

    I recorded a few bugs I encountered when I was playing OA 1.52 just now bugs 1- landing bug with the shute. normally I bump around for 4 to 5 seconds when landing with a shute before I finally stand on the ground, here I just kept bouncing. 2- Camera glitch while hanging on a shute. 3- respawn bug where the revive timer goes nuts and I respawned not on the base, but still injured and on the place where I just killed myself, that happend 4 times in a row. I did the Ctrl/Alt/delete and restarted OA.

    This maybe not really a bug, but still I would like to note that when running down a steep hill in OA you should run faster and not slower like it is now. If you go straight down a steep hill you are stuck with a crouch speed making you an easy target. Also in MP mode I die regularly when doing a para jump. My character stays in a stand position when falling down to the ground and I can not open the shute. Then like 50 meters above the ground finally the free fall animation kicks in and i can open the shute, but ofcourse to late.

    I can confirm that. Also If you go prone close to the rock you can look through the rock in scope mode.

    On some occasions in MP (domination) mode I encountered invincible AI men. They just refuse to die even though I emptied an entire clip on him at close range. Also on some occasions I can stand next to an AI men (static defense - tripod) and I do not get detected. My biggest annoyance in MP so far is the rubber banding where both vehicles and men snap from position to position. I can basically only hit something when the vehicle or men stands still otherwise it it is just a lucky shot and hoping I hit something. Wasted a lot of ammo on this and get killed because of it.

    Yes dito, earlyer today I had no problems, but now I get freezes and eventually black screen crashes when I open the ammo box in MP. Edit to add: That I only had this on a couple of servers.
  18. I wrote it down in the wrong order. I first verified the game cache, then closed steam and restarted it with admin rights.
  19. This is not new, with ArmA2 it is the same. Shoot in the water at close range and there are no splash effects, from a large distance it does have it. Did not check if this was mentioned already, but if you shoot with a tank at an other vehicle that vehicle gets launched in to the air or it ends up 100 meters further sideways. Same issue when I drive a tank and smash into a vehicle. Sometimes it does not happen or just a bit, but it seems like a physics issue. In the city/town area's the buildings that has an accesible roof with ladder the top ladder does not work properly. Just when you're done climbing and step on the roof you end up on the lower floor again. (I could take a screenshot of the building type in question) There are voice issues as well. Last night I made a quick mission and added a secop with a support trigger and everytime I call in support I only hear half of the head quarters voice or no voice at all. Edit: maybe I posted this in the wrong thread, I was talking about AO
  20. Thanks Placebo. I started STEAM now as administrator (got a windows compatibility warning from steam and ignored it), verified game cache and it runs now. I will be playing AO all day :D

  22. Hiya, I have bought Steam ArmA 2 a week a go (Love it!) and I have a question about installing this mod. Where do I install the ACE mod? When I downloaded it I got a message that the ArmA 2 files could not be found and that I had to select it manually. Do I install the mod in the main ArmA 2 folder? (C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2) Sorry for the n00b question :P
