  1. I have really enjoyed "Behind Enemy Lines". It's hard as hell sometimes, but very immersive. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6271&highlight=BEHIND+ENEMY+LINES
  2. When I do some video and picture editing with older programs (not written for Win Vista/7) I got some major crashes when turning the swap file off. It just wasn't worth the hassle in the long run tweaking my swap file based on every program I was going to run. Many programs force reserve space on the swap file instead (or in addition to) RAM reserve because the programmers just expected people wouldn't have enough RAM.
  3. The combination of post processing effects are new in OA, so I'd guess there is a lot of tweaking BIS can do on that front alone.
  4. WOW! As it stands - what you've done for Chernarus is nothing short of phenomonal.
  5. I think there's a script you add to the module so it will only spawn a select faction... but I don't know what it is.
  6. That's an awesome analogy Dwarden. Oktane, sorry my post was a little harsh. I worry a bit on how flustered people can get with newbies, and being one of those people I can still see why simple things can be overwelming... when it's unfamiliar. Once you get used to it you wonder how it could have ever seemed difficult. :) That said, I'm surprised no wise-cracker has voted "no". LOL :p There's always one.
  7. I really wish they'd get rid of it. I love the unmuffled sound of the Gatling guns on a Helicopter or Jet. If for realism sake maybe it should be unmuffled unless you add earplugs yourself. It loses a lot of the WOW factor being muffled.

Just want to say: Thank You BIS!

BIS, I can't thank you enough for an incredible game. I almost feel lucky I didn't come upon it until earlier this year as it means I get to enjoy the combined efforts of many years of effort by you and the community. If you keep producing content for the ArmA series, I'll keep buying. :)

    Mr Murray Editor Guide

WOOHOO!!!!!! <--- I NEVER use the dancing banan, but here it's warranted. Very excited to hear this. Can't wait!
  10. Doesn't work. They still get out and take cover when they draw near to dueling tanks even though citizens are friendly to all.
  11. Here's another one I can't figure out. I want a civilian to keep driving his bus through town even though there's a massive war going on all around him. Right now he drives 10 feet, gets out and dives for cover even though we're not a target. I looked up "danger" and got nothing relevant. Then I looked up "ignore" and didn't see any ignore commands that were relevant. Am I looking in the wrong area?
  12. OKTANE... CHILL OUT! I said my little blurb and I let it go, I'm making use of the CIT, I like it, and I will hand-hold anyone else that has something of true value to contribute. You're going to have an aneurysm if this stuff keeps riling you up so bad. Also, with a bunch of new people bringing in fresh new money to BIS you should be happy to see the SNR spike. It'll go back down as people learn the game, bugs get resolved, and those that don't want to put them time into a tech forum leave. But for the love of God understand and be happy that there's any noise at all! Otherwise BIS would be up shit creek with a lack of sales. I love what you do here Oktane, I really do - and it pains me to see you so upset over newbies.
  13. Thank you! ...and thanks to everyone else who participates with both questions and answers. :) Now, how you wrote the following: {_x setDamage 1} foreach [t1, t2, t3]; Is there somewhere in the wiki I would have found that? Or is that standard syntax programmers are already intimately familiar with?
  14. Is that intentinoal or a true bug? If it's a bug has it been reported on CIT?
  15. Oktane - I totally agree with you that their limited time is better spent in the CIT. It organizes the data better and gives them all they key information. It's a really nice tool. In fact - I will try and spend more time on the forum helping people with tech questions so BIS can focus on the CIT and not forums. I just thought it was important to offer a counter-argument. Also, when it comes to the importance/priority of issues comes up, I don't think it should be soley based on "who gets the most votes" on CIT. As there will be a lot of people who will not search the CIT nor use it because it looks intimidating. BTW - is there a way to save your system information in the CIT so we don't have to input it every single time?
  16. How can I try to replicate this bug? Give me a scenario and condition OK?
  17. That used to be true with a non x64 OS & older games. It's most definitely not true for a game like ArmA2. Sadly I've watched Tom's hardware go from an amazing site to a worthless site simply primed for advertising. The tests they list are absolutely worthless for multi-core high-end games. There is a positive about going the video card route instead of the other hardware choices. You can use still use it when you see the performance isn't as good as you hoped. Same could be said for the SSD, but you won't have the I/O hardware to push it like you'd hope. As far as the motherboard... you probably would have to swap out mobo/RAM/CPU at the same time, although there are some boards and processor combos that would allow you to use your old RAM. But the problem is RAM would then be a bottleneck. Adding more RAM to your system might be another worthy option if you don't mind knowing you won't be able to use it later on. XP won't normally see more than 3 Gig, but that extra Gig will help ArmA2 not swap so much data with the HD which is really slowing your system down.

ARMA 2 (OA) : DLC discussion thread

With how time consuming and difficult it is to make an island - to be compatible with ALL of BIS's modules like Ambient animals and Ambient civilians - it would be totally worth it. There's a reason none of the 3rd party islands are compatible and it's because of the massive amount of extra data/work that goes into the maps. But of course I'd rather pay $20 for another map with the size/complexity of Chernarus/Takistan.

    Poor FRAPS performance.

  20. With 6 gig of RAM I set a permanent swap file size to 3 Gig. I have never had a memory error. Remember if you're going to set a permanent swap file size to make it perform as well as possible do the following: 1. Change system settings to no swap file. 2. Reboot. 3. Run disk cleanup and clear out all temp Internet Files, Temp files etc. 4. Manually locate the swap file and make sure it's really deleted (most of the time it's not). 5. Reboot again. 6. Run Defrag program. 7. Set swap file Min and Max size to same amount 3072 (if you use my figures) I could probably go with less than a 3 Gig swap file but I don't want risk OOM's or game crashes. * Windows 7 - 64-bit * Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz overclocked to 4.3 GHz stable * Asus P6X58D Premium Motherboard BIOS v.0703 * G.Skill DDR3 2000 in Triple Channel Mode - 6 Gig * NVidia GeForce GTX 480 Driver v197.75 * PCIe Titanium Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality * Planar PX2611W 26" widescreen LCD * Win7/Boot drive on 80 Gig Intel X25M SSD * ArmA2 installed by itself on second 80 Gig Intel X25M SSD
  21. First of all. Please contact the developers for FRAPS. Their e-mail is help@beepa.com Second - the VERSION of FRAPS you are using is very important. There are critical differences in how fraps uses memory and caching and its sharing of cpu time. Depending on your system specs an older version of FRAPs may give you significantly better performance than the latest version. I've highlighted in red the versions that made major changes. You should try the revision before it. For example, I'm using version 3.1.2 as that works best for me. When they added cached playback it decreased FRAPS + ArmA2 performance.
  22. Dwarden, Will you guys still read the latest beta thread? The discussion in those threads can present information in a better format than the CIT in many circumstances. For those that think the CIT is super easy to use. For a non-techie it is not simple to use compared to a forum. A forum is easy as pie to use. My Mom, at 67 years old is an avid gamer and Grandmother. She can post on a forum just fine. I have her system specs in a Word document she can copy and paste without knowing anything about her system. But looking at the CIT would be overwhelming for her. It would take her a year to fill out all the information required and chances are some of it would be wrong. What is easy for a programmer or database manager is not easy for the average user. And it's a bit short-sighted to assume anyone who has a legitimate issue in ArmA2 is capable of navigating that system. I certainly will use it, but seeing how I know some people who would like to report issues and aren't very technical should not be shut out or overlooked. Otherwise you might as well just shut the tech sections of the "forum" down. ---------- Post added at 01:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:29 AM ---------- I really hope no one takes offense at my post. Also - Dwarden, I forgot to get those Anistropic screenshots to you. Sorry about that. I'm trying to find a good place to demonstrate it. -Jeff
  23. Savior, I'd have to agree with the other comments. The SSD would be last on the list as you have more important components to aquire. A new video card needs a good processor to drive it to get its full potential. Often people with weaker systems will get a new powerful video card and wonder why they can't just crank everything up. If you can tell me what's most important to you in the game I can direct you to what you should buy in order of importance. Someone who wants to fly is going to have different demans than someone who just wants bigger battles. So some examples would be: larger battles, more AI, less jaggies and clearer pictures (FSAA and AF), see further out, flying, less stutter etc. ---------- Post added at 01:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:14 AM ---------- Please describe in more detail. Is it micro-stutter, 2 second stops where the game has to load, or hesitations when you're panning around quickly?
  24. I have a custom script that brings A-10's in to support ground troops. What I'd like to do is have them leave the map (or dissappear) after they've exhausted their supply of ammunition, but right now they just circle their seek and destroy zone forever. I have them only equipped with the GAU-8 Cannon, so is there a way to setup a trigger? ie. B_30mmA10_AP = 0 so when the cannon rounds are gone then the trigger executes. Or is there a general "out of ammo" phrase that would work too?
