  1. @demonized- You gotta be kidding, some Indie devs wouldn't be ANYWHERE without Steam.

Steam is the best thing that's happened to alot of indie devs including the Tripwire Team.

Steam is also great for it's customers, it's easy and fast. I can't think of anything bad about it besides downloading takes longer than having a disk, but hell if you have a decent internet connection it's fine.

@JDMT- It's not automatically going into a server like a console, I'm sure you've played other valve games and when you want to join a friend just click the arrow next to their name and click Join Game and you're in, it simplifies things alot and would make it easier for everyone, not to mention alot more accessible for new comers.

  2. Deferred lighting would be very nice :)

That would be the best thing for ArmA 3.

The graphics don't need much of an overhaul(Though no one can actually run the game maxed to enjoy it's best graphics, so...) but the lighting is one of the main...visual issues with ArmA 2. A new lighting system could bring new life to ArmA 2, and now with ArmA 3 I hope they do revamp the lighting.

  3. Yeah I'm very excited about how that will work too.

I hope the swimming isn't clunky, I can just imagine, setting a C4 charge on a crane near a pier and jumping off into the water to escape the blast, like a badass. :p

But not just that, I want swimming to become something useful, and not something you dread to do, I also hope the underwater swimming isn't only limited to the units with the scuba gear, would be cool if they added a little air timer for units without proper gear.

  4. I've yet to see any valid reasons why people don't want Steamworks integration besides that they don't want to use Steam. I mean I could understand that if Steam was like GFWL or something, but it's not, Steam is a very good program. You also have to look at it in a good way, just imagine how much easier joining servers would be, the steamworks integration would make things 100x easier and faster.

It's just one of those things alot of developers are switching to because they see the potential in it. Alot of people will only buy games if they're on Steam, so this could mean more sales, but yes it could mean less because there are alot of misinformed and ignorant people out there with an unknown hate for Steam, but I would just love to have a working Steam version of my game.

I do like to have ingame chat and stat tracking, that's why I buy my games from Steam, mods would be no issue, because if it was Steamworks, you could use a mod launcher and it would still launch through Steam, a big +1 for me.

Everyone seems so jaded about what Steam is, it's damn hard to think of a reason why I wouldn't use it. It's got great sales, great interface, easy friends system and much more good things.

Big Dawg KS basically summed up all the main points I was trying to get at.

  5. Can you guys mind reading the first post and give me a damn reason why, I hate when people just say no with no reason.

If you don't want Steam, tell us WHY. Because if you have no reason for BIS not to integrate ArmA 3 with Steam, then don't bother posting.

  6. NO STEAM, I completely hate it I don't know why but I just do. Steam should stay optional and not force someone to play with it!

Maybe you should try it, because there's no reason to hate it really. It's got epic sales EVERY day and makes MP easy with steamworks titles and the chat feature is the main reason I use it. Not really related to ArmA 3, but over the Christmas sale I bought 24 games for $65 exactly, good games too.

Maybe you should give it a try before saying NO when you don't even know why you don't like it.

  7. Anything that requires me to run an additional software (especially if it's a resource hog and a DRM) together with a game is a big no no.

See this is where everyone goes wrong. Steam is hardly a resource hog if that's what you're trying to get at and there is no separate DRM besides the one that comes with the game. Once you log in with Steam, click auto login and you won't have to deal with it again until you choose to log out. Having Steam Integration can only improve the Multiplayer functionality, that's it.

  8. Jeez, the annoucment of ArmA 3 doesn't mean every single BI dev is dropping every other project just to work on ArmA 3. There's about 170 people working for BIS.

There's still more than enough working on ArmA 2, I'm sure we'll see more content, whether it be a DLC or a new expansion, and we'll still get patches just as often. The last patch for ArmA 1 was released not too long ago. People gotta get this in their heads...

  9. I'm going to upgrade to a gtx560 in a years time when it costs 200 bucks, mwu hahahhahah. BTW does anyone know if Arma 3 will support more than four cores? I have a hex-core (AMD though, nothing too exiting :D)

I don't get why people(not just you) ask these kinds of questions, we don't know ANYTHING more than you do. All we know is what BIS has shared with us.

So all the WILL AMRA 3 RUN DX11 OR USE MORE THAN 4 CORS, AND USE MORE THAN 2GB OF RAM comments can stop now, it's getting pretty annoying.

  10. No one can really tell you, the game isnt due till Summer 2012. The required specs are subject to change.

As it stands now you're PC should do fine since it is above the required specs, but don't take my word for it, or anyones because no one has played ArmA 3... -_-

  11. Yeah i know they will be a demo after release just like with arma 2, i just think it would be beneficial for both BIS and the community to take advantage of the already in place beta and CIT community to iron out the priority bugs and performance issues prior to release. After all, the last thing people want is to buy it in time for release only to have a repeat of the issues they had when Arma 2 was released.

Just sayin, but ArmA 2 had demo before it was released.

  12. I was just thinking, and I've talked to Dwarden about this before, but if any BIS Dev is reading this, could a Steamworks integration with ArmA 3 be possible?

I really think it will improve the MP scene, not that I'm much of an MP person, but the server filter hardly ever works for me so joining a coop match or whatever is always a pain, having steamworks would make it simple. Friend makes a server, click join game in steam chat and you're in.

Also, having Ingame steam chat not mess with the game would be nice

I'm sure there will be a lot of people who are against steam, and are frankly ignorant or uninformed, if you don't have Steam, you should get it. Steamworks would require you to have Steam, but it's not like Steam is GFWL, it's not intrusive at all, and once you log in you can x out of everything and just play your game, no extra log ins or crap like that. Plus ingame chat is a major plus for me. I know all of this can be done without actual Steam integration, but I honestly think it could seriously improve the MP functionality.

Anyone else have thoughts? And please refrain from stupid "Steam sux!!11 tryna steal mah moniezz"

Just post why you think it would work or why you won't think it would work.

  13. A small thing, but putting it on Steam a bit early can help draw attention to it, and giving it a Pre Order option early and not after the game is released like the past titles have had issues with.

  14. Why the hell do graphics come first for you? You sound like a console gamer...

While graphics are important for me aswell, they would never come first, they do help the experience alot but if a game has amazing gameplay but just average graphics I'm not gonna complain.

Look at GTA IV, graphics are Meh, no AA and low res textures, but the gameplay is phenomenal so I have no problems with the graphics not being amazing.
