  1. 2 Jets doesn't count as "aerial combat". :p Plus, Aerial combat in BF2 wasn't even fun, it was in 1942 though.
  2. I wouldn't say BF3 is like CoD4. It's definitely a BF styled game, however, it's not the sequel a true BF fan would be wanting for BF2. Then again, comparing BF2 to 1942, you could say the same. Small and closed maps, much faster gameplay, whole new era decisions, entirely new weapon balancing. Removal of any real aerial or naval combat .. The list could go on with what they removed from 1942 with BF2. Yet we still consider BF2 to be the true BF ...

    Development Blog & Reveals

    They're all behind you :D
  4. People with 1 veteran status with only a few hours of BF gameplay have got alpha invites. There's been a huge outrage on the BF3 forums that the veterans whom have played all of the BF games since 1942 have just been thrown aside as DICE let the "CoD kids" run in and play around to give feedback. The actual selection system appears to be totally random, But zh1nt0 did confirm there will be more Alpha keys given out. So perhaps you'll get lucky. Then again, A guy on my xfire, who got into it, says it's overrated and not as good as people think it will be.
  5. Again, There wasn't a clear "No there wont be modtools" or a clear "Yes there will be", it was a vague "Right now, we do not have plans for it" etc etc Which they've been pulling on all feature announcements so far.
  6. The thing about the Modding tools and stuff is that they've neither been confirmed nor denied out-right by DICE, you've just got developers on the side giving contradicting opinions that people are taking as fact for BF3. Same with BattleRecorder, hell, the guy that said there was no BattleRecorder didn't even know what it was, even though it was in BF2 & 2142. After that, the DICE CM said that he was wrong, but at the same time - didn't confirm or deny it. It's a mess of information ...
  7. Looks better than OA's Boxart, to be honest.
  8. Looks nice, I was always a fan of the Roman styled battles in games such as RTW. :)
  9. There's alot of BF3 alpha footage on the web, that has been "leaked" by players who have fraps installed. DICE doesn't seem too bothered by it, though.
  10. BF3 has entered Alpha stage, and DICE have started Alpha testing with the public: bf3alpha.battlefield.com They're slowly sending out waves of invites to people whom follow the instructions detailed in the FAQ. Apparently both Open and Closed beta's are scheduled for later on, this is something entirely different from what I expected DICE to do (throw it out with little to no testing what so ever), and is a welcome surprise. The actual selection for it seems randomized, and you can view "leaked" Alpha videos through a quick search on YouTube, I will not post these links, but if you really look they're easy to find.
  11. Yeah, But then again, That's pretty much the storyline for every single damned FPS out there.
  12. I agree, The main reason for this whole escapade is Microsoft/Sony. They do not make it easy for indie developers to get their games onto those platforms, they do not make it easy for people to innovate there. That said, PC only games often come with a touch or feel that console versions do not. For instance, I had great fun playing Red Alert/Red Alert2, hell, I still have Sudden Strike laying about (been a while since I played that!)
  13. That's not nitpicking at all.

    Modular AI would be nice

I know what an FSM is .. It's the building the AI part of it, combining states together with transitions are easy, But getting the AI to be as you want, to get the AI to be "intelligent" is not as easy. It'd be better to have had a professional AI programmer to have created the AI states, rather than us as users having to build them.
  15. Yeah, Features like these end up splitting the community down the middle. With 1/2 not wanting it, and the other 1/2 wanting it /not caring. Either way, in the heat of battle. I'd prefer to be able to understand what my commander is telling me to do, and whether I have to look at subtitles or be able to understand him talking. It doesn't make much of a difference. It'd just be convenient to be able to understand what he's saying.
  16. Which is exacly what they've done. Your teammates speak your native language, the enemy speaks their native language.

    Modular AI would be nice

But rewriting the AI FSMs is not exactly "simple" Plus, I would take a guess that the majority of the fanbase are not AI Experts, cause I know I'd not know where to begin with AI stuff. ;)
  18. The idea behind it is that it's more realistic for a Russian to be able to understand Russian. Rather than not. I agree with the to be honest, Immersion means nothing if I cannot understand them. Yeah, it sounds cool to hear them speak Russian, but if the guy screams and order at you in Russian and you cannot understand what the hell he's saying without scrambling to read text going along the bottom of the screen which says "Behind you!", It's just as much of an immersion killer as it is with the correct language.

    AH-64 Pack

What exacly is the performance gap between the AH-46 and the WAH-64? I don't suspect it is enough to try and simulate ingame. Anyway, It looks very nice NodUnit. :)

    Modular AI would be nice

I think something like this was already mentioned around here. And again, I agree. It'd be nice to see a form of "modular" AI where the AI performs depending on it's type and skill. Where their tactics change on the scenario, so a unit will behave differently depending on whether they are SF or Regular, whether they were UN soldiers or just Militia or your usual OpFor units. and so on. I'm sure BI have overhauled the AI for A3, But I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they've added :)
  21. Awesome, If only I didn't just spend all my money on a new PC and OA. :(
  22. it definantly is a thinking mans game, However, On many occasion has thinking not saved my pathetic attempt at tactics in the game. :D ArmA just gives a feeling of tension and excitement no other game can. I find ArmA to be slower than any other game, yet I've found ArmA to suddenly burst out into battles that feel much faster paced than other games out there. It has a vast variety of gameplay, and pretty much caters to all tactics. Which is what I love about it - Finding so many new and undiscovered ways to fail a mission is always fun. :)
  23. CM mod(s)* thinks it's "Cypher" (which he probably figured out from a PM I dropped him a while back asking if he was) But the fact RedRiverChannel has lasted so long at this point, has made me think otherwise as most people *here* have given up on bashing the game itself, and just poke fun at it now and again. Probably just some mislead guy who actually bought RR :p *I will not name the said mod(s), as that would be unfair, so do not ask.
  24. If that was RR's official soundtrack, at least it would have had less swearing. :D
