    What exactly is so impressive about A2 AI at this patch level? I've never seen the AI use any sort of tactics at all. Notice how the helicopters almost always get shot down because they fly at a height of 50 meters roughly 500 meters away from the tank? Notice how when the APC disembarks the troops, at least one gets run over? Notice how frequently the helicopters dump your troops while flying away? Notice how the AI never throws a grenade? Notice how the AI simply drops to the floor during combat instead of taking cover? Maybe you guys see something I don't with the Micro-AI. Still, it's a damn good 1/2 finished game.

    Valuable lesson about this forum: Any concern that you voice for the game will make you a troll. Remember: When it comes to BI games, you get a $10 game at release, a $20 game 9 months later, a $30 game 1.5 years after release and thats it. Also, a very harsh but true note to BI: Only a select few really care that it is a small studio and team. If A2 is the price for a finished game ($50) then you better deliver. Sure, many people will take heart for a small studio in Europe. Most don't. I pay you money and in return expect a finished product. A2 at release was half-baked at best. It is not the gamer's problem that money ran out during the development. You guys have entered the big-boy major games list. Act like a company and not a start-up please. OFP came out 9 years ago and the series has barely advanced at best. Since then, recognition for the series has grown, but Jesus Christ! RV doesn't even have physics! Or any real new game-changing feature, not even good graphics! Peddling the same game again and again is not acceptable! Oh, and before the forums go off like a bomb for the graphics: AA has horrible looking game assets (for the most part). Would maybe some parallax mapping kill you? Some wet surface technology? How about some DoF effects? Maybe some sort of technology that doesn't feel like the 1st term of George Bush? Stop embarrasing yourself, do something and get some stuff fixed. How about making the game run smoothly first and foremost? TL.DR rant about how BI delivers an unfinished product and expects to be compensated for a finished one. I'm sure it will be fine by a later patch, but this is unacceptable at the moment. Serious recognition for ArmA II by the mainstream is wanted; this is mainstream attention.

    The animations are great, but very few games use death animations anymore. I recommend playing vanilla at first, so that you don't feel overwhelmed with the complexity of many new mods.

    It is based on real-world locations, but its not (probably) the exact same place. That is sort of like saying NY and Liberty City are carbon copies of one another.
  10. Although A2 was a good game, the hardcore realism (compared to A1) was not what I wanted. I found that a certain degree of fun (the way A1 weapons shoot and feel) was the right way to go. Now that we have all of this realistic and accurate data, the direction I want the next AA game to take is this: I'm sure that every single person who played them remembers the Aliens mod and Zombies mod from A1. I want the Blues and the Ops fighting for survival against a fictional threat, such as Aliens or zombies, something unknown. The ArmAs feel of scale would be very fitting to this scenario. (It isn't the most ridiculous thing people wanted from AA games, so guy wanted to make a martial arts game out of them!) Why simulate something you already know the result of? I think some sort of "living" mechanisms should be implemented as well. I think if some sort of sleep function (Realistic, however!) and hunger/thirst (realistic, again). Also, combat frequently takes places at much, much greater ranges than A2 presents. In Afghanistan, combat often takes place at <500 meters, even as infantrymen. "It was like hanging out in a bunker, but shooting a gun at some faraway guy every once in a while." (It shouldn't be this way all the time, however!) High Command is definitely going to be a loved feature, a big expansion to it would turn the AA series into award-winners. Expansion as in: enhanced transport feature, AI subcommanders (Tell them to take a city for example, have them handle all of the complexities themselves. You would give them some resources to use.) and 'roles' (that you can assign) such as Recon (stays a set postion, goes to stealth mode and watches horizon?) or Transport (as you give units orders, it would respond to their postion to transport them.) Also, I would like to see a continuation of the EW storyline at some point. EW is easily the coolest new thing I've seen in gaming for a while. This is not a thread trashing A2, as I'm sure many people will think I'm doing. Tell me what you want the series to do! I don't care If you disagree with me. Please post what you want. If you are just posting to disagree with me, then don't even bother. I am not the project manager, I am just saying what I would like to do. What you would you like to do? Take it to a real war? Which one? What gameplay modifications would you want? If you disagree with me, then say why and what you would like to do in the AA series. EDIT* Remember OFP, it didn't have the focus on hyper-realism that the first AA did. The realism went to 9 because people asked for it. Another Edit: I couldn't care less if you don't like my idea. I just want to know yours. Apparently, people didn't get it the first time. I AM NOT IVAN BUTCHA, OKAY? I AM JUST A FORUM MEMBER WHO LIKES DISCUSSIONS IN A PLACE MADE FOR DISCUSSING.
  11. False, GTA IV was the deepest gaming experience in recent history. If BI was in complete control of the gameplay and Rockstar made the story, models, animations and physics... that would shatter the modern conception of gaming.

    What do you mean stops working for NV? Use the G key when near-ish and facing the dead guy. Can't change command key binding. Use the F keys to select individual members (F1, F2...) Probably because vehicle has become unusably damaged?
  13. @ Weapons customization: THIS. My ACE crates are full of the same weapon with a slight variation, they need a better way to store weapons. @Editor: Yes. Yes yes yes yes.

  15. I put my response in bold for you. I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MY IDEA. I AM NOT IVAN BUTCHA, OKAY? What do you want to do with the series, MyFing? What do you want expanded, who do you want to play as, where do you want to fight, do you want a continuation of EW, etc.

  17. Thank you for an actual response. COD4 showed that simple targeting systems and bullet penetration could work. I too would like to see the game get more hardcore, but as an on-off editor module. I would definitely like to see the command interface improved to simulate actual battle, as that towns would have actual value. I would like to see an ability to order AI to take static position in a town, without having to give specific waypoints and what-not. I would like to see them have tents or take place in buildings, depending on the friendliness level of the civilians. I would like to see the ability for AI vehicles to refuel at gas stations automatically when you are stationed in a town. I would like to see values for tiredness (as in sleep) or hunger as well. Oh and for god sakes BI please put some kind of function for sniping, like in ACE. We need that in vanilla ASAP.

    Oh yeah, thats just the TEN YEAR old engine for you. In general, you really have to comprimise a lot of pretty when you play A2. What sort of game uses death animations anymore? I blame poor gun animations on BI. What exactly are they working so hard on that they don't have time for good looking gun animations, which is easily <70% of ArmA screen time? However, whenever you get angry at the games, just take an SU34 and fly over Chernarus for a little while. You'll forget your troubles.

Shooting the ground causes damage in SLX mod Conclusion: You have an ungodly amount of mods. I've brought up all of these concerns; many people will just go 'shut up stop bashing the game.'
  20. Are you people thoughtless drones? Sure, its not a popular idea but it isn't turning ArmA into a on-rails shooter. I don't give a flying if you don't like my idea. It currently seems like this community exists to degrade people who say what they think, the hatred for modders (not me, but that doesn't matter.) and regular users is profound, nay its worse than 4chan. Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my ArmA Idea! The realistic large-scale Alien combat. Rayers12 style. You can find this in the wishful thinking department. That's right, this idea was made in Allendale, NJ. Retails for about fifty. It's got a laser gun, gray skin, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. YOU GOT THAT? Another Edit: I couldn't care less if you don't like my idea. I just want to know yours.

  23. Agree, Six-Update for ACE was horrible. Whenever I needed help people told me to go to the wiki. The wiki was unhelpful at best.
  24. @JW as well: I did stop playing, but I still do read the forums because... it's a damn good forum. Also, how else would I find patches that could improve the game experience? I don't think Vietnam would work personally, if you think the AI has problems now...
