the helicopter won't be that much different than what you will get from when they "patch it up". you're right in the sense that you don't know how to anticipate what a helicopter will do. like i told you, when you start to descend for your landing, lower your collective and add a little bit of right pedal. once you get close to your landing sight and start to add collective add left pedal simultaneously. once you've arrested your descent to a hover adjust your pedal to keep you heading straight. make sure you're not making large adjustments which could very well be what's making you loose control. now as you're becoming stable in a hover lower your collective and add slight right pedals again and gently touch down on the ground, make sure you keep your heading constant and not drifting left or right or you'll risk dynamic rollover. if need be you can actually land with foward speed, just make sure you keep your heading constant and lower your helicopter down gently and keep lowing your collective until you come to a full stop. one thing that you might check into if you don't actually have pedals and using a twist grip is to decrease the sensitivity of your twist grip axis so you don't over use your pedal when you twist because it's not accurate.

    Controlling the Aircraft

quote "1. Letting the wind turn the helicopter so that my nose is pointing into the wind." end quote. anyway there's no way that you can be descending and your helicopter is rotating right unless you've used WAY too much right rudder which you told me you use left. second quote "Once the helicopter start rolling right i try to counter balance it(as needed)with left cyclic but the wind effect quickly overtakes the heli. even with GRADUAL FULL cyclic left. I've tried to start from the "saved" point(approaching the rooftop) with FULL cyclic left which stops the roll to the right but puts the helicopter in very violent turns and unstable movement, definitely not suited for landing...especially on a rooftop." end quote. so what your'e saying is you're rolling right, rolling and rotating is totally different. you're using cyclic only corrections which is wrong, that is why i said to use left pedal initially to correct your roll to the right during the last few seconds of your approach. and the reason why you'd use left pedal is because you're pulling collective to arrest your descent, are you understanding this so far? if not let me know so i can explain further.

well there's two problems to your approach, you never mentioned flying into the wind on purpose, you let it drift so it flyings towards the wind. when taking off and landing in a helicopter in real life you always want to point towards where the wind is coming from but in the game it's less crucial. also as you're descending you want to add "RIGHT" pedal because you are are decreasing collective, towards the final flare to hover you're increasing collective to slow down the descent which means you use "LEFT" pedal because you're pulling collective. if you use proper pedal work it's very much controllable although it does take some muscling of the joystick just remember to be gentle with your movements, large movement make you overcorrect and possibly make you loose control all together.

How do you guys trim effectively?

this is how trim works, if you center your stick in level flight and if the nose wants to pitch up by itself then trim rear/back/aft cyclic. what trimming does is repositions your cyclic towards the direction you trim by small amounts at a time which can relieve cyclic pressure for the pilot. after adjusting trim center your stick again in level flight and see if it's still pitching up, if it is then trim aft some more until you can let you helo fly without any or very small amount of input. you will probably have to do multiaxis trimming with a helicopter because most likely you will have to trim left or right as well. hope this helps.
  6. ok i think i know your guy's problem, so here's the trick. make sure when you're coming towards the building where you drop off the cargo you come in high so that the altittude of the cargo is "ABOVE" the building top. hover steady and lower the cargo to the ground, make sure the cargo line isn't too slack when the cargo hits the floor so you can drag it to different locations on the building top to try and trigger the unhook process.
  7. yeah i have noticed that with more passengers on board that the heli started to fly more like the real thing, that hovering took a lot more collective and descending actually feels like descending. So i just tried out your code and here's what i got. even with the increased amount of collective i need to pull there's no right yaw from torque, also the ground effect bouncing has becoming almost unmanagable overexaggerated.

it would help if you can tell us what your speed is, and also what you're doing with your pedals as you're descending and lining up with your landing spot, it might just be pilot error. but i have noticed the right roll although not as bad as what you're describing.

    Controlling the Aircraft

ummm i can controll the helicopter just fine but then i'm a helicopter pilot. the torque, pedal seems not to have enough of an effect even in calm winds conditions if you ask me. if you've ever flown a real helicopter it's very squirelly with the pedals in strong winds. also make sure you have your collective set to analog if you've got it on your joystick throttle. the abrupt down/up movement has to do with ground effect not being properly programmed also depending on wind in real helicopters there is a up down effect because wind effectively increases rotor efficiency depending on the situation, just like if you fly through etl you get more lift and that can account for the up downs and well although less dramatic in real life. though the right roll thing is an well known issue and hopefully will be fixed but that could also be that you're not flying the helicopter in trim i.e the pedals. when you raise collective you need left pedal when you lower you need right pedal.
  10. actually when i completed the mission it wasn't that precise at all. i think you have to be at a certain height from the rooftop for it to start working. then just hold it there until the progress bar reaches 100.
  11. if you turn your hud markers on so you can see the waypoints etc you'll have your marker. besides it's good practice for you to hover around looking out the side window to see if you're drifting left or right, that will teach you coordination with your stick.

    Cockpit features

don't think there's a carburetor in any of the featured helicopters because they're all turbine.
  13. So aside from landing on rooftops and your helo fly by itself once you get out. There's another problem with helos behaving strangely. So if you're on the ground and you start typing in chat with / command your helo will take off on it's own like on autopilot or something. Or when you're flying or have set down on the ground and your press the esc button to goto your menu, the helicopter will fly all by itself and when you get out of the menu you're in mid air and usually you have your collective full down so you end up crashing or something which is really annoying.

    Multiplayer maps

has anyone figured out how to make a custom map for multiplayer besides using the derby one in seattle? i think that map won't let people join once the race has began.
  15. so for some reason and myself included whenever i join someone server or someone joins my server and this is not 100% of the time. I try to start the engine and it doesn't work, or someone in my server tries to start the engine and it doesn't work. Then as soon as they get out of the chopper the engine starts spooling by itself, then they try to get back in and the engine spool down.....

    Tdm 08 flyby

so i tried hosting the map, but it seems i'm the only one able to get into a chopper. furthermore nobody can ride in my chopper and i also can't get out of the chopper.

    Update for Beta

So as we're reporting bugs and BiS is fixing them, any chance that you guys can put up patch for the beta for whatever you guys have fixed so far?

yeah... what's the big idea? WE WANT HELOS! =D Though good for you that you've actually made a mission for our enjoyment!

    Refueling?

    nope, didn't have one
  21. My game keeps crashing after i join a game in multiplayer, i can get into the game's lobby fine and talk to everyone while i select my role but after i hit ok and the game loads and it sits there for a little bit then crashes. What's the problem??

    General Flight Model

it's not that it takes a minute to respond, it's dependant on speed. i noticed that you really only start to descend when you go below 40 knots or so when you're full down collective, or any amount of collective for that matter. ---------- Post added at 03:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:08 AM ---------- it'll get easier when you get a proper stick and throttle with pedals and track ir will help a lot too.

    Update for Beta

yeah and in a few days i'm sure they would've fixed some of the things so when they do is it possible for them to release a patch for the beta.

    Multiplayer maps

ok so i've successfully created a multiplayer map with 8 flyable choppers and 8 player slots at larking's helo company base with player respawns. can someone explain to me how to make the helicopters respawn too? i can't seem to figure it out, i use the respawn script respawn = "BASE"; respawnDelay = 1; respawnVehicleDelay = 1; respawnDialog = 0 in the init line on my players and vehicles for the civilian i created a marker called respawn_civilian and for vehicle i created respawn_vehicle_civilian but my choppers aren't respawning....
