  1. Yes, but I miss the ability to mark the whole forum as read, not just the one I'm currently in, without having to go back to the main page. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying. It was better when this could be done from the "Forum actions" menu. EDIT: I don't want to sound negative, complaining about such a little thing. So, I will also add that I think that overall, the new forum is a big improvement, and a big thanks for working so hard on immediately fixing the bugs that are discovered. Not many developers listens to the players/forum users as much as BIS does!
  2. Where exactly? I can't find it. This was one of the more useful features on the forum, so it needs to be easily accessible. EDIT: Ok, I see, it's only available from the main forum view now, so we now need to navigate to there first. Before, it could be done from anywhere, from the "forum actions" menu.
  3. It would be nice if threads with unread posts were more immediately noticable. A different color of something. Now, you have too look for the tiny difference in the envelope icon, if there is a "letter" sticking out or not. The one very noticable thing now is the red "hot post" color, which in my opinion is totally irrelevant. Who cares about that? Is there a way you could make threads with new posts more immediately noticable?
  4. Yes, I just confirmed this too. It seems that something has happend that has broken the Armor tutorial. Also, when you are told to switch to HE rounds, it says "use F or action menu". This should be fixed, I don't think you have ever been able to change ammo with the F key, only with the action menu. F just switches between the different weapons.
  5. You can't reload different ammo with the F/R (switch weapons) key, so it's correct that you have to use the action menu for that. Isn't there anything you need to do after switching to the mg? Like destroy some targets? That's probably why the tutorial will not end.
  6. I would mostly agree, I know that most of the time when I'm killed I am moving too fast and not paying enough attention. But there have also been many times when I am slowly sneaking through a forrest, in a ghillie suit, constantly scanning all around, and still I got killed by an unseen AI. So, there is definitely something more going on than bad tactics on the players part.
  7. Oh, so that's why I always get shot by an enemy I can't even see, even when sneaking around carefully in the woods as a sniper with a ghillie suit. That has been extremely frustrating, so I'm glad to finally have an explanation for why that happens. Great find!

    Development Blog & Reveals

Why are you driving with the mouse? I can understand that that's not working well. Just use WASD to drive, and the mouse to look around.
  9. So, I wonder if this means Arma 3 will have M1911s with the sights still misaligned... ;)
  10. Get rid of the clouds? They're there for a reason you know. Arma 2 is not a flight simulator, it cannot support very long view distances. So the low clouds are needed so that we can run the game without having a super computer taking up a whole room. Arma 2 is above all an infantry simulator, the vehicles and aircraft are quite simplistic compared to dedicated vehicle and flight simulators. If you want an advanced bombing sight, your best bet is probably playing IL2 - Cliffs of Dover. (Which is a lot of fun, even though it takes a lot of practice with the bombers to learn to hit anywhere near your targets.)
  11. Has something been confirmed about explosions in Arma 3? If not, why is it discussed in this thread?
  12. Sounds like the stats for this weapon are unrealistic and should be fixed. The Lee-Enfield was a great weapon for its time, but it is not super accurate. I've never fired one myself in real life, but if I remember correctly what I've read about it, its strength is that it is smooth to operate and the 10 rounds can be fired very quickly, but it is not as accurate as, for example, the German Mauser.

    Barrel heats up after firing

Well, at least an Ak is not so flimsy, it's reliable enough to keep working even when so overheated that it's on fire :) These videos clearly shows that an assault rifle is not a machine gun, and should not be used for sustained firing. A feature that should be simulated in the game.

    Barrel heats up after firing

Yes, definitely. From the official guidelines for the M4: "(B) FIRING 140 ROUNDS, RAPIDLY AND CONTINUOUSLY, WILL RAISE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE BARREL TO THE COOK-OFF POINT. AT THIS TEMPERATURE, ANY LIVE ROUND REMAINING IN THE CHAMBER FOR ANY REASON MAY COOK-OFF (DETONATE) IN AS SHORT A PERIOD AS 10 SECONDS. ... (D) SUSTAINED RATE OF FIRE FOR THE M16 SERIES RIFLES AND M4 SERIES CARBINES IS 12-15 ROUNDS PER MINUTE. THIS IS THE ACTUAL RATE OF FIRE THAT A WEAPON CAN CONTINUE TO BE FIRED FOR AN Indefinite LENGTH OF TIME WITHOUT SERIOUS OVERHEATING. No operator should empty more than 4 magazines rapidly."

    Barrel heats up after firing

BIS might get a little thing, like barrels heating up when viewed by thermal imaging, but they're missing the very big and important thing, the effect this should have, overheating the barrel when it heats up too much. After all, this is the whole reason that machine guns exist, and why most of them have quick change barrels, to give a sustained fire capability that assault rifles lack. In real life, you can't fire thousands of rounds through an assault rifle without pausing every few hundred rounds to let the barrel cool off, so you shouldn't be able to do that in the game either.
  16. Not for me, I just loaded up a few different soldiers with binoculars in the editor, and they all work like they always have. B to toggle the binocular view on and off, right mouse button does nothing. I use Combined operations, with all DLC, vanilla, no mods.
  17. It's been a long time since I used ACE, but if I remember correctly this is the way the binoculars worked with that mod. Are you using any mods?

    BAF or PMC?

It would seem that way, judging from the information released so far (which admittedly isn't very much yet).

    BAF or PMC?

As have been pointed out already, why get just one of them? Especially considering how cheap they are now, there's absolutely no reason not to get them both.
  20. Yes, everyone can write on Wikipedia, but everyone can correct mistakes too. Just try what you just suggested and we'll see how long it is up before it is corrected. And yes, when I went to University there were a few old, conservative professors with no understanding at all of the Internet that frowned upon Wikipedia (and all other Internet sources), but most did not complain as long as you evaluted every source and considered the plausibility of all facts, no matter the source. A book can be just as reliable or unreliable as a Wikipedia entry.
  21. Swimfins, swim fins, fins or flippers are worn on the foot or leg and made from finlike rubber or plastic, to aid movement through the water in water sports activities such as swimming, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, kneeboarding, riverboarding, and various types of underwater diving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimfin
  22. Was there anything new at all in that video? All the footage certainly seemed to be the same seen in previous videos.
  23. Agreed. Music have no place in Arma, which is more of a simulation than a game. Are you running around listening to your ipod instead of paying attention to the vital sounds around you on the battlefield, or is there a military marching band following you around? Better that BIS would spend their time and resources on further improving the game sounds.
  24. This is not a problem. One of the most annoying things with the game for a long time has been that if you are the squad leader and temporarily switch to another soldier (maybe to place a sniper or machine gunner exactly in a good firing position in preparation for an assault, for instance) then the AI takes over the squad and starts giving orders, ruining your setup. If this has been fixed, then that is wonderful. If you are team leader and temporarily switch roles, your squad should just wait until you take command again, not continue the mission on their own. IMO, team switching should not be used to permanently take on another role in the squad. If that is the case, then I can see how it might be a problem that the AI will not continue with the mission. But then it is better to choose another role before the mission starts.
  25. Yes, the crosshair needs to go. Yes, you can turn it off, but just the fact that it exists detracts a lot from the realism of Arma, and makes it feel more of an arcade game. Also, even if turned off it is needed for some heavy weapons. These need to get real sights instead, like the iron sights for the light weapons. But, there's no hip fire, look at yourself in third person view while not using the iron sights. The gun is clerly not held at the hip, but high at the shoulder.
