    Running Arma2 from SSD

I just ordered a Crucial 64GB C300 and I'm hoping to get W7 and ArmA2, OA and BAF to fit on it. Obviously, if it does, I'll have to manage and allocate other data on my other HDDs. I was in 2 minds about going to SSD, although after reading the raving reviews about solid state drives it was a no brainer. I read that gamers can also get an FPS increase of around 6%. Of course, the only cons about buying a SSD is they'll more than likely be half the price next year and twice the performance. The Crucial C300 is at least Sata III 6GB with a decent read speed.

    Just Bought A 6870

There's never a good time to buy a card IMHO. You've got to buy the best you can afford at the best price available. I chose the 6870 because I managed to get a Black Edition for £198 delivered, it's a good price, and the plus side I can now patiently wait for the price to drop before buying a second one to crossfire (not much good ATM for ArmA2 I know). :o I know I peronally made the right choice buying the 6870 for my machine - I get a good frame rate maxxed out @1920, so I couldn't really ask for more. But saying that, my build isn't too bad, and I've OC'd an i7 920 to 4Ghz so there's no bottleknecking as far as the processor is concerned. The weakness with my PC is the hard drive, so I think I'm going to have to go with SSD :D

    Running Arma2 from SSD

I've disabled my pagefile. Having 12GB of ram I didn't feel the need to have one.

Plz help 6870 crossfire ARMA 2 OA Bad FPS

If there's a problem with the PSU the whole system is likely to crash/restart/BSOD

Plz help 6870 crossfire ARMA 2 OA Bad FPS

I'm guessing people's experience with specific cards whether single GPU, dual GPU or crossfire will vary depending on their PC spec as a whole. There are so many different components out there which can have an infinite number of combinations.

    Just Bought A 6870

Well guys, I've installed the 6870 in the configuration listed below & I have to say I'm extremely please with the performance so far. The surrounding environment obviously dictates to what frame rate I'll get, although so far I'm probably averaging 40FPS maxxed out @1920, but that's just an estimate. The new 10.12 driver would have of course improved performance since the initial benchmarking. However, I'm experiencing ArmA2 locking up & not responding, so there's something not quite right.

    Imagine That!

It could work with ArmA2 via a USB motion sensor like Xbox's Kinect :)

    Imagine That!

My 4 year old daughter recently challenged me to running race on the Wii Fit. Now, it's fair to say I've put on a bit of middle aged spread, not to mention a few pounds since a recent hernia op - but there I am with the wii's sensor in my hand running on the spot trying to keep steady consistant rhythm whilst simutaneously keeping an eye on my wii character running the virtual race. Before you know I'm blowing through my rectum and working up a sweat as the competitiveness takes hold :o within a few minutes I cross the finish line with the harsh reminder how fit I'm not :o Then it's got me thinking: "My god! Imagine ArmA2 adopts a motion sensor controller  Can you imagine that!!!

    Imagine That!

I actually use TrackIR4 Pro, I can't even imagine playing ArmA2 without it! I initially had a bit of trouble configuring it to my liking, but now I have it's a must have for me!
  12. I mentioned in an earlier post I recently purchased a 6870 after previewing the results of ArmAII's benchmarks for several cards. It appears the 5870 is slightly better performing, albeit a frame or 2, which of course is fair enough given that it costs more, although I've noticed decent 6870 drivers are still in their early development stages, so can benchmarks on a new card reflect its ranking & true potiental if the card is still awaiting a decent driver?

I think the 6870 will perform a lot better in crossfire with better driver support.

    Exploiting The Game?

Do we subconsciously by nature exploit weaknesses in ArmrA II in order to gain the upper hand? Answer: Of course we do! It's in our DNA. Although something tells me that the developers will sooner or later use reverse phychology to its full potiental to ass rape us... Eh.... Bring it on! :D

    Just got my GTX460...New Game...!

The HD 6870 seems a good buy at £199 inc delivered, although I'm not sure ArmA2 likes ATI/AMD cards

    Just got my GTX460...New Game...!

I've got my i7 920 2.66Ghz OC @ 4.00Ghz so I'm more than happy. Encoding video is ridiculously quick, although on air it sometimes hits 70 degrees fully loaded

    Exploiting The Game?

Remember Sgt George Long? He was the British soldier who abandoned his armoured vehicle in Basra after a local mob threw petrol bombs at it! The armoured vehicle was actually a Warrior. I have good knowledge of the Warrior he was in as I use to kit them out & drive them short distances. Knowing how tough the really are for the life of me I cannot understand why he leapt from the safety of his vehicle. I'm guessing he smelt the smoke and panicked. Mind you, I also remember my depot taking receipt of that burnt out Scorpion from Bosnia and somberly glaring at it. 3 British soldiers were tragically killed in it when they strayed into a minefield. The mine blew a gaping hole in its side & the interior was just a burnt out shell :(

    Just got my GTX460...New Game...!

I'm just wondering if it's time to upgrade my HD4870 x2 I've also had enough of the artifact issue with ATI cards. The GTX 580's benchmarks looks very good, although there doesn't seem to be alot in it compared to the 480 so I'm torn...

    Exploiting The Game?

I know risked being lynched for making this post, because people don't like to believe that they do subconciously exploit games. I've found myself trying to find that 'chink' in the AI's armour so to speak - although I'm pleasantly surprised to find exploiting them can have an adverse effect. Take the first single player scenario mission BAF. I knew those 2 cars come from the right at a certain point in the mission so I anticipated their arrival by taking up the prone position at a good vantage point - I only got away with it a couple of times, after that I get got fataly shot from a good distance with remarkable accuracy. I don't think it's so much to do with cheating, but more to do with finding fault with the game - the more I can't get away with the more happier I am with the game. Being able to exploit the mechanics of a game is a big let down in my eyes from the developer.

    Exploiting The Game?

Good question/reply. Do you manipulate the AI? I.e, Do you anticipate the AI's predictable action/movement/reaction in order to gain the upper hand?

    Exploiting The Game?

    Exploiting, not exploits. Exploits=cheats=Losers

    ArmA2 Marmite?

I'm thinking ArmA2 is Marmite - it's a love or hate thing. I mean, a friend of mine is FPS mad, he's completed all the FPS games out there, although he doesn't get on with ArmA2 one bit. I'm guessing alot of arcady players out there can't handle ArmA2 because it's so unpredictable/realistic. Personally I love ArmA2, it really is my kind of game, although I have to admit, it is intimidatingly complex at first glance. In one respect I'm glad it is & arcady orientated gamers will dislike ArmA2, simply because I loathe games like Battlefield & Medal of Honour due to the way how some players glitch & exploit those type of shallow albeit fun games. Anyhow, if I wanted to play Arcady games like that I would have bought myself a console :D

    ArmA2 Marmite?

OMG, I think I'm inadvertently promoting a brand - Marmite might be going global :p
  25. infiltrator_2k

    ArmA2 Marmite?

I couldn't agree more, although TBH, I don't think that's what puts some gamers off ArmA2. I think it's not being in predictable control is what does it. But yeah, you get out of ArmA2 exactly what you put in, & if you don't/can't do that, well... it's Marmite
