  1. Also having this problem. After looking in some mission.sqm's I had made with MCC's "Save as .sqm" function, it appears that "AddOns" and "AddOnsAuto" are completely empty. I know MCC never had a problem with this before and it seems to be pretty recent as I constantly use MCC and Zeus for mission making nowadays. EDIT - I'm a fool, it's apparently going to be fixed soon and it actually has nothing to do with "AddOns" or "AddOnsAuto"

    Singleplayer with epic plot

Not sure if it's been mentioned, kinda skim-read over the posts. By the sounds of it, the campaign of A3 will be very much in line with Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, which is a good thing, it was probably the best campaign that came out of OpFlash. You can count on this being a pretty deep story this time around, Bohemia have mentioned in multiple times in feature-lists and in interviews. Another good thing is that the plot will likely tie in with the gameplay, the concept of Miller seeking out the aid of the locals could mean we see Miller recruiting civilians from towns and arming, which sounds awesome to me. Fear not, your' campaign is in good hands.

Can AI's / Auto Voices have better voices in ArmA 3?

Hate to say it, but voice acting WAS pretty much the only feature Op Flash Dragon Rising (not Red River) had over ArmA 2, there were a good ten voice actors for both US and China and while there are obviously far more in ArmA 2, these were much more fleshed out and samples were clear and sentences had next to no pauses. Having recently played it again (not something I'd recommend) I can tell you that Op Flash Dragon Rising actually had a full list of variables in terms of distances, from 5m to 2km (instead of Kilometers the soldiers say "klicks"). Bohemia should seriously take notes on the matter of voice-works, the fact that Codemasters screwed up everything except voice-work shows that Bohemia should easily be able to pull themselves up to DR's standard (of voice acting, A2 owns it everywhere else)

    Arma 3 Officially Announced!

Eager for some gameplay. Could you hint at when you're going to show a trailer or teaser of some sort? Also, will you be at E3?
  6. Most of the hacks were clearly story-related bar one, being the numerical animation hack, which many perceived to have gameplay implications along the lines of: Destructible environments. Is this true, or was it simply referring to the new implementation of PhysX? Or was it entirely different and plot-related like the other hacks?

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

+1 for steam integration. Steam worked wonders for every other game that chose to integrate its' MP with it. It's sheer madness for anyone to think that this would not do the same for ArmA 3. ---------- Post added at 09:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ---------- You're portraying Valve in the same light as Activision by saying that, and it's completely inaccurate. People are suggesting steam integration for the simple reason that most of the userbase has it anyway, and it will vastly improve ArmA's server functionality, people are more than happy to have something shoved down their throats if it's got a good taste. (horrific imagery)

So wait, linking the story stuff we know now to the stuff from the hacks. The story states that Eastern forces are pushing NATO into the ocean off Europe, this links to the map of Europe that shows "Eastern Forces" pushing into France. The story also states that it is a taskforce of special operators as well as researchers, this links to the hack that showed the boss from PMC telling someone else to "Draft this guy" on SBS Miller (the protagonist)'s profile card addressed to someone called Novac, presumably some form of recruiter for the taskforce. The storyline also says that Miller washes ashore all alone and will have to go from "lone prey" to military commander, this possibly links to the "Friday the 13th Hack" which listed a lot of guerilla actions/figures, which suggests that Miller rouses a rebel army to fight for control of the island a-la-gueverra. There was also that hack about the auto-stereogram linking to the youtube videos which told us some lyrics? forgot what the lyrics were but if I can remember correctly they sounded like something to do with a revolution of some sort, breaking chains? Then the ball hitting the wall, probably the strangest of the lot as it doesn't seem to link in any obvious way to the story, only possible link I can see is the inclusion of PhysX, but I doubt it.

'scuse me gentlemen, I'm off to cancel my pre-orders for Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Mass effect 3 and any other freakin' game coming at anytime soon. However, I'm also off to buy a ridiculously expensive new computer.

(trying my best to avoid being off-topic here) It's funny, the other day Activision posted four videos about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. At the end of each video a gruff russian voice says something. It took the machinima community literally a post to translate the Russian sentence, bet Activision thinks they're mind numbingly clever. Then you look at this, and the most intelligent, loyal, creative and generally awesome community in the world is being kept on its' toes due to the sheer challenge of this ARG. Brilliance to be honest.

This has been clarified before, optimistic or not: Bohemia have had nearly ten years to work on a new engine, and they have said themselves that they don't like the engine they are using. There are several other facts to show they are done with ArmA 2. (such as the fact they recently released ArmA:CO and ArmA:RFT, indicating they have wrapped up all the DLC and are moving on. Also, we are now approaching the exact time gap between ArmA and ArmA 2, therefore it is perfectly possible that this could be the next ArmA).

It's all kicking off now. Hope something comes of this, rather than a wild goose chase that leads up to an E3 announce. They won't do that though, it's not unknown for products to be announced before major conventions and then fully revealed at the convention.

Could someone quickly post some kind of update on what happened in hacks today? I had a massive French exam and then got home for like 4 hours of R&R.

Yes, but thermal vision is just a fancy overlay, Physics requires a complete engine overhaul to incorporate the fact that every single object in its world is dynamic in some form. When you factor in the possible inclusion of destruction, it multiplies the amount of work massively.

I was thinking they might hack this thread, with us pressing f5 repeatedly to check the masses of posts coming in on this thread at around the time of the next hack, they could easily just deface the thread and when we refresh we get a big old shock. would be pretty cool, but I doubt it, it would prevent us from communicating about the happenings

Thinking about this. Adding some form of "basic" terrain destructibility shouldn't really be that hard. Surely it's just a case of programming an explosion along the lines of "when explosion hits ground, lower terrain by X centimeters and change terrain texture to dirt/exploded ground", then of course they already have falling trees.

I speculated about this a while ago, it seems perfectly valid plot-wise: Russia and America during the cold war, nuclear armaments aimed at each other and all hell is about to break loose. Iran (or whatever country we have decided on) enters and subtly kickstarts the Cold war by nuking both America and Russia in disguise as the opposite country. I doubt this very much ^ But the community has been crying out for remakes of the originals for a long time, the community have even resorted to recreating them by themselves (CWR). It wouldn't be impossible for it to be an extreme version of the cold war, but it's not looking very likely with the inclusion of the countries all around Europe.

Hopefully Bohemia realizes that this thread is beginning to fall into a state of civil war and announce whatever this next project is.
