    Tracer Effects

    I fixed it btw, had to do a hard reboot of my machine for some reason... thanks again for the great addon, I'll have to make a movie or two showcasing the effects.

    I tested it with only your addons running, and when I have both WarFX and the tracer addon launching at the same time, the game hangs and simply won't load. As I said earlier with my edit, the tracers are working fine with the M242 with your tracer addon, but with the WarFX addon, they're every 5th round for me. And nobody expects you to keep making special updates for every tracer color request, it was just an observation. Everyone appreciates all your hard work and effort.

    SDP Shilka and Tunguska cannon fix

    I installed it and for some reason it doesn't work. I just get the stock single fire from the left, on both vehicles. Same with missiles. I triple checked by removing all other addons etc. and made sure I had XEH running with the new version. Help?

    Optical- The tracers in the latest version are really great. Much more to what I was speaking to in your other thread (WarFX). I tried using both the tracer addon with the updated tracers and your WarFX addon, but they're incompatible when used together. I'd suggest rolling in the tracer changes into your next WarFX release, along with the toned down small arms impact effects, and you have a real winner here. ---------- Post added at 02:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 PM ---------- One additional note- The red for the BLUEFOR tracers has always seemed a bit dark to me personally, but the orange you've applied to the M249s looks just perfect for a real tracer round, as it looks a bit brighter when the game renders it. Maybe you could make that the standard color for the BLUEFOR tracers? As usual, it all boils down to personal taste, but I'm just trying to make a suggestion that would make it look as realistic as possible. Keep up the great work! More info: In your addon the tracers for the LAV-25's 25mm autocannon (and other similar weapons such as the small caliber ACs on the BMPs etc.) have a tracer once every five rounds. I think that they should have tracers for every round, which is how it was originally. Additionally, all the coaxial machineguns for all the armor should have tracers every round, rather than every 5th round. The cyclic rate for co-ax machineguns is much higher than that of the regular 240Bs mounted at the loaders stations or being hand held. I don't know if BI has them firing at an increased rate, or if they just don't have enough tracers in the mix. Take a look at some M1 tanks firing their co-ax on youtube or liveleak and I think you'll see what I mean. *more editing* Looks like the tracer once ever five rounds for the LAV is sorted in your tracer addon, but not in your WarFX addon lol. I'll shut up now. :)

    Hey Optical- great work. A few questions and suggestions: Is there any way the tracers could be made to appear a little 'thinner'? IMO what makes the original tracers look fake is that they're too thick and blobby. The coloration of the various sides of tracers is fine, but I think that each one of them needs to be a little more 'white' at the core of the tracer and the colors need to be a little less saturated. Is that possible to do? Could you increase the 'alive' time on the tracers as well so that they trail out quite far when AA guns are shooting etc? Right now I have my view distance set at around 5k and the tracers die off at around 2500-3k it seems, or even closer. Crits on the sparks of the explosions: Overall I think the explosions are really well done. A lot of good suggestions have already been said about the dust etc. so I won't repeat that but I have a few more crits that might improve the immersion a bit- When the sparks are spawned with the explosion, I think they need to have much higher initial velocity and then have them slow down very rapidly. I don't know if you used much real world reference, but if you haven't take a look at as much real life stuff as you can. The particles of real explosions appear almost instantly to within 80-90% of their ending position and then slow down to almost 'float' as they burn out and fall to the ground. I don't know if you can put additional variation into the various particles you create so that some have high speed/short duration while others have longer duration with lower initial velocity, but I think that would improve things as well. Keep up the great work. If you'd like any help testing stuff before you make a public release or need some help with some QA please let me know, I'd be glad to help out.

    Yeah, that is what started me asking around about tracer addons! His stuff is looking so much better than the stock effects. Does anyone know how his progress is coming along? I've done some searching around on how to go about creating some of my own effects stuff (specifically tracers and embers for the explosions) but right now I just don't have the experience with the scripting etc.:( Would anyone be interested in working on a similar project with me?

    Some modeling feedback: the bolt handle is *way* too small. I think that your addon is superior to the other one, but you need to look at the other guy's bolt model. It's how it should be. Great job on the rifle overall.

    Best tracer/effects addon for ArmA2?

    Thanks for the comments so far guys. I had already checked out the above linked tracer mod, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm interested in changing the look of the actual tracers to be a little more realistic, and maybe some improved impact effects and sparks and so on.
  10. Before you start, yes, I've used the search function. I've seen a few demo vids on youtube etc. but I'm having a difficult time finding a good tracer and/or projectile impact effects addon for ArmA2. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any that are even out yet? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was a long time OFP player and just recently picked up ArmA2. All I have to say is "why didn't I buy it SOONER?!"
