No one else getting this problem???

Hi Just wondering if anyone else has had the problem of trying to connect to a server where you know someone else is playing from the same internet connection as you. When I try to join my house mate on a server i get a message saying the server isn't responding and my house mate who is already on the server gets a message saying he hasn't been talking to the server each 5 seconds and the game freezes. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.
