  2. Hi, please anybody knowledgeable help me out on my basic coop map. It's a basic dogfighting/bombing mission in taki. Spawn at S airfield with plenty of empty planes. Attack tanks and planes in N part of map. Basic respawning script & visibility adjustment script included. 1. Iv created 1 player & 3 playable units for humans to spawn into. They are grouped currently, is that the best way to do it? I want to be able to get the small green diamond around my coop buddies so I can see them over the horizon? Or is there a way to get player names appearing on the map? 2. After a while my ability to lock onto targets goes away, only the square shows up over a tank but no circle & no lock sound. What's up with that? 3. How do I make vehicles respawn after they are used? Many thanks :-)

    Sum noob coop editor questions

    Hey thanks, il giv that a try, just what I was after. Does it respawn enemy AI controlled vehicles on the map also or just friendly vehicles? Regarding no.2, has anybody experienced this before? It's a real pita! When flying an apache solo lock on works once switched to manual fire but it stops working after a while. Possibly when I respawn although not 100% sure yet. Thanks

    I would hav thought anybody that likes arma would appreciate a high tech sport like F1 ;-) But yeah the F1 and Arma 2 are great at that size, I sit about 4-5m away so it doesn't really fill your peripheral vision any more than sitting closer to a little screen. The thing that immerses me the most is sittin in the middle of a 5.1 setup, hearin footsteps or tanks rumbling up behind you is great experience and a genuine advantage over a player using 2.1. Anybody else using a projector or 5.1?

    Tank "dead ahead" and other stupidity.

    If you want my two cents, go and buy yourself a xbox 360 controller for windows. This has everything pre-configured and is so much easier than mouse & keyboard for driving & flying. I still use mouse & keyboard for infantry combat as u simply can't replicate the accuracy of a mouse with a joypad but as soon as I jump in a tank/jeep/APC/chopper/plane I use the controller. You don't even need to switch seats, I sit in the drivers seat of the tank & set AI to fire at will & danger mode & then as soon as the AI call out that a tank is spotted I press the left stick in (same as Tab) both gunner & commander swivel to lock onto it which takes one second & then press right trigger (fire) & 9 times out of ten score a direct hit before the other tank has even spotted me. If you accidently lock onto the wrong target just keep tapping left stick in and the gunner cycles through all spotted targets, locking onto each one in turn. Works best when shooting tanks/jeeps etc but iv also taken out choppers with the main gun this way. If it's just troops Im faced with I just tap yellow button to switch to coax & let both com & gunner tear apart troops with machine guns. Honestly if u want ease of use get an xbox controller, makes it so much less stressful in combat situations. Only time I ever need to switch seats is if the AI don't spot something which normally happens @ either extremely long or extremely close ranges, then just use dpad, switch to gunner, aim & fire, then back to driver seat. I never have to use commander seat at all. Giv it a try, u won't be dissapointed.

    BattlEye Installers (A2:OA, A2: RFT, A2)

    Devs are you sure theres not something wrong with the BEsetup thats packaged with the latest patch on steam? When I try to update battleye from steam now nothing happens at all. BEsetup folder is there with installer in it. If i try and run it from explorer it does exactly the same thing, double click and nothing. Yet it appears in add/remove programs in control panel. but there is no battleye folder anywhere to be seen in OA folder in steam. its like the installer isnt copying any files anywhere.
  8. I still seem to have intermittent mouse anomolies. Mostly when standing on a slope after a long game of warfare. mouse turns right much faster than it turns left. yet its ok in the menus, movement just as normal. Nobody else experienced this??

  10. I got same problem here too.. Arma 2 & OA & BAF all on steam, When trying to join battleye enabled servers i can get in to choose team menu then it loads the level but goes straight back to the sever selection screen with no error. no battleye servers are fine. Iv tried the following... Reinstalling everything, Arma 2, OA, & BAF, Tried to re-install battleye thru steam drop down menu on arma 2 & it worked ok. Tried to re-install battleye thru steam drop down menu on OA & it failed, came up with a warning *MISSING STRING* and did nothing. (anybody else get that?) Uninstalled OA battleye through control panel & that went fine. Reinstalled from website and that didnt seem to do much, windows 7 asked if program had installed correctly, i clicked yes. Still same problem on joining MP battleye server. Tried reinstalling BE through steam one more time, MISSING STRING. Noticed that in arma 2 folder there are 2 folders. BEsetup & battleye, in Arma2OA there is only BEsetup, no battleye folder appears when i re-install battleye. dont know where the files are going but they are not in the right place. Singleplayer is running very well so good work on the optimizations, 8000k view distance, everything on high 1920x1080, AF med, AA low. big step up settings wise for me :) Windows 7 64bit, steam in D:\games\steam\steamapps\common\arma2OA\, catalyst 10.10

    Reading the Map Guide?

    Hey Terry, Map reading is definitely one thing u need to be good at with arma games, hav a look at this link, it explains the basics.. http://www.1stusvcav.com/Techniques/Move/map_reading.html Just remember when u hear coordinates in the game to take good note of them as often they scroll up and are gone before uv worked them out. Arma 2 uses two three figure coordinates when spotted, so divide the number into two parts... e.g if you were given 546012 as a location of something spotted ud do the following 546 - is the horizontal part 012 - is the vertical part So find square 54 on the bottom of the map and then find square 01 on the left or right hand side and where column 54 & row 01 meet is where ur X narks the spot should be, This is where it gets a little tricky, you then divide this square up into 10x10 bits in ur mind & then use the last two numbers on the coordinates to make the point more accurate. So inside that square go 6 along & 2 up and that is ur precise location that's being called out. If you need to give ur location out you can either work it out on map or pull up your gps which will show it. Hope this is helpful Terry :-)
  12. I have a very similar problem, but it's slot harder to reproduce. But this is also with a logitech G9 laser mouse, windows 7 64bit. I hav an issue where after playing online for a while (mostly warfare) my mouse sensitivity is not equal on the x axis.. I.e I can turn/aim right slot easier than I can turn/aim left. It's not just a small amount either.. Normally turning 180 degrees takes about half a mouse pads width in movement but once this bug appears it takes 3-4 mouse pad widths to turn left, where as turning right is the same?? Please somebody else must hav experienced this?
  13. Unless I'm very much mistaken ther is no way to single out the radio chatter between you and your AI buddies? This needs to be sorted, I currently hav to turn on volume normalising on my xfi as otherwise it is far too load. Louder even sometimes than gunfire! Why can't we hav the ability to turn Multiplayer warfare radio chatter down a bit so when u need to listen for incoming vehicles or footsteps u can. This is especially annoying when playing the Russian team as I can't understand a word of it and yet it fills my speakers! Many thanks BIS, you hav madd the most awesome simulator ever but I'd just like this one option so I can get absorbed in it even more :-)

    Firing unguided rockets from choppers

    Manual fire is a definate, AI gunner is good with the machine gun/cannon but for rockets missiles switch to manual fire. Try coming in low and fast but before u do that find ur target on the map and shift + left click on it so it puts a marker on it for you and then just fly in low and fast and line up the marker with the circle on the HUD and fire a big burst of rockets.

    Order AI to change weapons

    I agree, this def needs sorting.. I equipped my squad of 11 AI (WarfareBE) all with the following weapons.. 1x KSVK 1x Metis & 1x Metis missile 1x Pistol They then proceeded to run about trying to shoot everything with pistols, no matter if the target was 100m or 1000m away. They even chose the pistol over Metis when tryin to attack armour! So 2 Problems exist.. Pistol should be made AI backup weapon only to be used when no normal ammo left. AT weapon should be selected when targeting any type of Vehicle.

    Multiplayer lag/stutter on moving objects

    This in my opinion is one of the top things that needs to be fixed in Arma 2. I'm in the process of tryin to convert some LAN buddies from Battlefield to Arma and this problem/bug is one of the main reasons they dislike it & probably the main reason there aren't more people playing this online. It's not smooth like other multiplayer games. U should fix this BIS if you want a bigger fanbase!

  18. I think there is real potential here, keep up the good work. Iv never played arma2 + zombies, although I loved zombie mode on cod world at war ;-) For those that havnt downloaded the mod yet, what can we expect? Hordes of undead chasing us across those nice familiar arma 2 levels? How far do they track you? How many at once? Will def try this out soon
  19. I have to say 10.8's are working wonders for me. Iv set my catalyst ai to advanced and my 4870x2 is now running the game very well, all detail levels could be bumped up one notch. Might be a combo of 10.8 & the new 1.54 patch but it's definitely slot smoother now :-)

    Helicopter controls: LOCK TARGET without ZOOM ?

    Best way I find is to get ur ai gunner to target the shilka from as far away as possible using F2 > 2 > target shilka.. And then once helicopter is lined up, pop up over ridge and fire and then drop down again. I know it's neither fast nor slick but atleast u can scan all targets in the target list for the most dangerous and pick them out before they pick you out.

    Can turn right but left turn/aim is so slow?!?

    Yeah I hav had the flickering menu options before but I'm pretty sure that's down to having steam chat open in the background. I'm stumped as iv never heard of anybody else having the problem. To clarify.. When it occurs menu/map/options movement is all fine, it's only when I'm in first person view and often when standing on a slope.. Takes twice as much mouse travel to turn 90deg left than 90deg to the right. Surely somebody else has experienced this?

    Regarding the tracked vehicles sliding... Would it be possible to have them slide when on grass and sand and yet grip well when on roads? Iv seen tanks drifting on grass but rubber pads on dry road would not make a tank drift.. More likely to tip over. Image drifting down a grass slope and onto tar and watch ur tank briefly tip up onto one track as the surface friction changed.. That would be cool and probably quite realistic. The game engine already knows which surface your on as footsteps change depending on ground material?
  23. This is a problem that has been plaguing me for a long time now. It only seems to happen during the multiplayer Warfare games, specifically WarfareBE. The game runs fine for the first 1-2 hours but then slowly the fps starts getting worse and worse. I have tried using the -FLUSH command and this can make it better for a few mins but the problem soon returns. I need a definitive answer from somebody in the know, preferably a dev. What is at fault here? I believe my system specs are not at fault, all drivers are up to date & latest patches installed 1.07 & OA 1.52. The problem is worst when around a large base ( a problem if u like commanding), it looks like my settings are turned up to high yet those same settings are ok at the start of the game. I spoke to Benny about this and he says that the render window detaches after a while and only way to sort it is to restart arma. Another source said that client fps is actually tied to server fps in multiplayer, is this true? If so why? Are the warfarebe servers I'm playing on poorly configured? Any knowledgable answers greatly received.. Thanks ---------- Post added at 03:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:58 PM ---------- Forgot to mention, this frequently results in a crash to desktop or game freeze for me after a few hours. Game can be prolonged by flushing but it's not ideal as sometimes I forget. Am I missing a trick by not using any command line parameters on launch? Windows 7 64bit & steam install of both.

    Multiplayer OA limited to 30 fps...why?

    Unless I'm very much mistaken there is no relationship between server fps & client fps. If the server CPU is struggling u may see slight jitter in the movements of AI units but it won't effect client fps. If your fps in editor and singleplayer is ok yet slow in multiplayer this is purely down to the extra load on your CPU from a complex multiplayer game.

    I think your problem is down to the online game mode you chose.. Warfare mode has always been very taxing on the CPU, especially a game that has been running for a few hours. I have a Q6600 quad core @ 3ghz and my warfare games run slowly after the battle starts for real. Turning graphics down helps a little but it's definately a CPU limited game when in warfare mode. Get a new quad core running at atleast 3.0ghz if you want warfare to be smooth.
