Errr... Many other games have at least as good looking water but it doesn't kill fps, quite the opposite.
-
Up to 12% they said in driver highlights... Depends what your video card is I guess. If there's some "power in reserve" then 12% boost can be very possible. I got exactly 0% boost with my crappy 8600GT.
-
Was just reading Arma1 patch changelogs and I hope we'll see same kind of stuff in future arma2 patches too, like "Improved performance (up to 100% increase in frame rate depending on scene, video settings and graphics card)" :-)
-
Well yes, of course arma2 COULD run a bit better and it seems amazingly heavy compared to graphics. For example compare arma2 with lowest settings to Far Cry with high settings, THEN compare the fps... Weird difference, eh? This was the major turn-off for my friend also, he didn't like the gfx when he had to turn everything down in order to get somwhat playable fps. But I don't care, even with lowest settings there is this FEELING... I'm in WAR! Ability to see my own body and shadow alone adds something other games don't have.

Isn't it annoying when you like game like Arma2 a lot, but can't get your best friend to like it?-) Now I know how jehova's witnesses must feel like...

Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints

Have you tried double tapping ALT while aiming through crosshairs? -

Yes, I noticed it also that I got worse performance when I had interface res set to native 1440x900 and 3d-res lower + extreme blurriness and I thought it was because my TFT-monitor was downsizing the image. After I lowered interface res too and synced it with 3d-res I got almost +10fps boost with my crappy rig and image is crisp. Few more tweaks and perhaps I don't have to upgrade anything after all... :-)

every single thing that I did to get this game running perfectly
TomBabmo replied to -=JackHorner=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well look at that. I tried reducing interface resolution by one notch, 3d-res seemed to sync with it automatically and gained almost +10fps! And no annoying blurriness compared to if you keep interface resolution higher than 3d. And it is logical actually if you think it, if 3d-res is lower than interface then video card must set resolution match to interface and downsample 3d-stuff on-the-fly causing more stress. -
Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints
TomBabmo replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yes it bounces upward but goes right back and doesn't affect aiming, you don't have to re-aim after every shot. It's more like "visual effect" only. Or do you consider it "realistic" that if you don't move your mouse and just fire away AK-47 full-auto, in the end your aiming point is EXACTLY where it was before firing? Is it like "cone of fire" or something? -
Only MP mode worth playing seems to be coop as in deathmatch if I lay prone even for couple of seconds to "scan the area for threats" I'm accused of CAMPING. I mean WTF? Those guys should go play Counter-Strike or something if they want constant running'n gunning morons getting bullets between their eyes. AI doesn't complain.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
TomBabmo replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Seems that arma2 is more video card intensive. I have Core2Duo E4500 2.2GHz and it was overclocked to 2.66GHz (1333FSB) + GF8600GT 256MB PCI-E. I tried to overclock CPU more to 3GHz but benchmark gave exactly same fps. Then I pushed video card a bit further and benchmark gave +5fps. Almost all details set to their lowest. I guess the next thing to upgrade will be my video card. I'm such a green person that I've been looking at ATI 5770 because it seems to have excellent performance/power consumption ratio. And as it seems to be about 3x faster than 8600GT I guess arma2 will benefit from it nicely too. -
Can someone actually download those files? I have tried to open those changelogs for the past 3 days but that site seems to be completely jammed.

NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!
TomBabmo replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I highly doubt that drivers could kill video card, unless they somehow set clock rates too high. If so this would be the first occasion I've ever heard. Simply amazing coincidence. -

For now I have only demo version, but if it's the same with full version... Isn't it weird that military simulation doesn't simulate recoil effect properly by causing your aim to bounce upwards like in many other "arcade shooters"? I can just keep my crosshair where I want my bullets to go and spray away, semi or full and my accuracy is not affected AT ALL.
