1. Rolling Thunder (since 2010) is a series of bi-monthly PVP events in which large scale tank oriented battles are simulated. RT is for those who always wanted to participate in such an event, but never found the people to play together with, if not to play such a gametype in a more organized large scale environment. The RT battles are standalone events. For each battle there are new registrations. This means that the battles are easy accessible and less demanding/time consuming for the players compared to the more common PVP community campaigns/series. The Rolling Thunder participants vary from infantry players looking for a break from their regular gameplay, armor gameplay newcomers to professional tank combat simulation gamers all with the aim to have tactical, teamwork orientated, well organized and enjoyable battles. In these battles, tank company versus tank company operations are simulated. Both reinforced tank companies consist of a command element, three tank platoons (3 tanks per platoon), a recon section, a anti-tank section and a logistical element. The total number is 44 versus 44 players. Key features: • Large scale, stand-alone, tank v.s tank PVP battles • Reconnaissance, AT and and other support units involved • ACE supported • Tactical and teamwork oriented • Easy registration / participation (as a group or as an individual) • For each single battle a different map, different sides and renewed player registrations • Capture and Hold system Come and take a look at the website to find out more! 2. Dear all, With this message I would like to inform you of change of administration at Rolling Thunder. As most of you already knew, I am stepping down as organizer. The reason for this is that I do not have the time anymore to set up quality events. It took a while to find a suitable successor, which is why you haven not heard from me / RT for a few months. I would like to introduce you to Nemesi, who is now the new owner/organizer of Rolling Thunder. Nemesi has lots of experience in Arma MP organizing as clanleader of BDR and also as organizer of Arma Tactical Combat. Nemesi is from now on your point of contact at RT and will be working on setting up RT #11 and further battles. Keep an eye on the RT website for updates. Nemesi will make an introduction here, later on. Thank you to all who participated in Rolling Thunder the last 2 years, it was a blast. You might still see me on the virtual RT battlefield as a regular participant. Best regards, Eric Dutch RT founder

8. Hello all, I would like to bring to discussion the relation between game server performance versus its players on server. Ofcourse there are topics about this, however I thought it would be nice to more specify some problems at hand. Please share your opinion about this, preferably supported by some kind of proof. Statement 1: Servers' / multiplayer games' performance is quite dependant on how far its players are located from the server Statement 2: Player ping level and server performance are directly affiliated with eachother Statement 3: Individual player internet connection speed and server performance are directly affiliated with eachother

12. Hi Slatts, I guess it would be best to let that up to the modmakers' creativity. All are welcome to present their creations. But to answer your questions: Tanks have highest priority for us as these battles are mainly about tanks. (Armored) recon cars are useful as well. We try to compile sets of vehicles/units within a same faction. For example, on one battle we had a re-custimized modpack for the Sadam era's Republican Guard (by Lost Brothers). It contained tanks, apcs, trucks and related troops/crew of the same "faction". You are welcome to share pictures and/or a first sample when you have it, so we can take a look. R/ Eric
13. Dear modmakers, For the bi-monthly held, large scale tank vs tank PVP event "Rolling Thunder" I am looking for mod makers who are willing to (make and) make available their tank mod for battles. So far we used different tanks / addons for each edition, however, in order to maintain this diversity we need additional input. If you plan to make or already made a customized Arma 2 tank and are willing to contribute, this may be a good opportunity. What we are looking for: - Arma 2 customized main battle tanks, preferably ACE compatible - Optional custom crewmen - Optional related scout cars, transport helicopters and support trucks What is in it for you: - An opportunity to have your creation(s) be promoted to and used by a very wide public, supported by a strong brand - Guaranteed slot reservation for you on Rolling Thunder battles If you have interest and/or questions, you can contact me by PM. Battle for takistan huge pvp campaign

Hello Freerider, Don't let your enthusiasm fade. It is a common thing for people to have reservations on the unknown and I understand the fuzz about No Respawn. The reason why you don't see much sim groups playing pvp is because of their fear that those games will be too arcadish and standard. But, the trick is to bring those groups together and motivate them with a good concept / presentation of your idea. This game and community in all those years has only shown 70% of its capacity, theres still enough places and concepts to explore. I'd say, make a good plan / concept and personally present it (on TS) to groups you think are potential interested. It does take effort and time, but in the end you could have a real good game experience altogether :) My group is potentially interested but I need to see a plan/concept before I can say anything more. Best of luck!

18. Fellow gamers from the ARMA community, For those who don't know us yet I would like to introduce Unit 19 to you. Unit 19 is a group of players who are into tank combat gaming on a professional level. Unit 19 simulates an international private military corporation specialized in operating western MBTs and IFVs. Our mission statement is to provide our members with entertainment through dynamic tank combat simulation in a professional environment where teamwork, reliability, comradeship and fun are valued. We provide various other milsim units with tank support in COOP and PVP operations on an almost weekly basis. Unit 19 trains and operates as much as the game allows it to the standards of the U.S. Army tank forces on the level of the single platoon. Our members are (ex) military which have been/are part of a tank / mounted recon unit in real life and / or are people interested and dedicated to playing such a role in these games. For those who are interesting in joining us, we are recruiting. For those Unit commanders who are looking for a professional tank unit to assist them during their operations, we are available. For more information I refer to our website www.unit19.org We are looking forward to working together with you. Yours faithfully, E. Dutch CEO Unit 19 <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIiM3CRwCGM&hl=nl_NL&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIiM3CRwCGM&hl=nl_NL&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
19. Dear U19 relation, I would like to inform you about some developments in Unit 19. Due to increasing priorities in my personal environment, I do not have the time anymore to lead Unit 19. Fishbone, which has been my right hand since the beginning, is unfortunately due to the same reasons not able to take over my spot. Since 2009 Unit 19 has been providing the numerous groups in the ArmA community with professional and dedicated virtual tank crews / armor support on an almost weekly basis. Unfortunately, without leadership, we cannot anymore provide the high level of quality and dedication U19 stands for. Therefore, we as a group, in order to preserve the good memories and reputation, have decided to leave the name “Unit 19†now that it is still good. We will continue as an un-named formation of players and may sporadically play here and there, but on a non-official basis. We enjoyed the time playing with you and hope you enjoyed our presence as well. Best regards, Eric Dutch
20. Hello, I am looking for someone who can help me with a specific trigger condition code for a capture zone trigger. I have browsed this forum and got some suitable code from existing PVP pack scripts but do not have the skill/knowledge to make them suitable/applicable for my PVP concept. Bottom side of this post describes what I am exactly trying to achieve. Some help, even if its small would be much appreciated. If you need more info, let me know. Best regards, E. Dutch ------------------------------- The trigger im talking about is an area trigger. In order to gain control over the area within the ellipse, the OPFOR has to seize and hold this trigger zone for a certain set time (using timeout). Below are the intended conditions for the trigger to be activated: Number of T90 tanks in triggerzone => 2 (can be any T90 vehicle on the map) These two T90s when inside the triggerzone must be operational, meaning having a working turret, engine and tracks The two T90s must be crewed by at least 2 or more players per tank (Only Russian crewmen class must be able to count for this) These four Russian crewmen players must be alive The above four conditions must be met for 5 minutes for the trigger to fire off Now if the above conditions seem to be too hard to realize with a code, this could be an alternative. Triggerzone must contain => 2 T90 tank (can be any T90 vehicle on the map) Damage level for those 2 T90A's within the trigarea must be <= 0.5 Russian crewmen class players in trigger zone must be => 4 and must be alive The above three conditions must be met for at least 5 minutes for the trigger to activate Other info which may be useful to know: - Mission uses latest ACE version - JIP allowed - Mission uses simple vehicle respawn script for all vehicles - Mission uses "base" respawn for players - ACE wounding sys module is on
21. Ok, i tried this and tested it both SP editor and on new created MP session on my comp but both tests failed. The new trigger was not created or was not working. Any idea what could be wrong? This is my init.sqf. - Red1 is how i intend the created trigger to be named. - Red1marker is a ellipse marker placed on map via editor. setViewDistance 4000; enableSaving [false, false]; if (isServer) then { red1 = createTrigger ["EmptyDetector", getMarkerPos "red1marker"]; red1 setTriggerArea [100, 80, 0, false]; red1 setTriggerActivation ["OPFOR", "PRESENT", true]; red1 setTriggerType "SWITCH"; red1 setTriggerText "text on"; red1 setTriggerStatements ["{_x iskindof 'T90' && canmove _x && canfire _x && ({_x iskindof 'RU_Soldier_Crew' && alive _x} count crew _x >= 2)} count thislist >= 2", "red1done=1, hint 'red1 is on',red1marker setMarkerBrush 'SOLID'", "red1done=0, hint 'red1 is off',red1marker setMarkerBrush 'Border'"]; red1 setTriggerTimeout [10, 10, 10, true]; }; waitUntil {alive player}; player addEventHandler ["Killed", {[_this select 0] spawn {hideBody (_this select 0)}}];
22. Ok, ill take your advice on the Iserver code you provided earlier, sounds good :) As for the advanced conditions regarding the tanks, maybe i'd have to look in setfuel > # or setdamage <# instead to make it better accomplishable. But i expect that setdamage wont really work with ACE right? (armor system etc) Just fyi, the mission im building is meant to be a template for a new original PVP concept/serie. Once the website and project have been released i'll let you know.
23. Ok thanks. But wouldnt this result in the trigger being added up each time a player JIPs? I could timagine this would reset timeout counters in the process as well or am i wrong in this? On another topic, the canFire condition works (at least if you have no ammo to shoot with, didnt test with damaged barrel yet)ect. As for the canMove condition, its name is a bit misleading. Damage level on tracks did have influence on this, becuase as soon as one track went out, the trig became inactive, but the tank was still able to "move" with the other track And i also tested with fuel=0 and in this case the canMove still counted as true whilst the tank could not move at all since it was out of fuel. So my question would be, is there a way to make the triggercode in post #5 have the vehicles check on: - Working tracks = true? - Working engine = true? - Working main gun = true? - Rotateble turret = true? Or maybe this would be too complicated and to much unnecesary load on the server?
