detected frames ahead/max frames ahead, and 3d_performance settings

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; these are what i have in my a2 config, i remember someone suggesting settings like 1 or 2 for each -- what exactly is that doing for gameplay, i tried it w/ the beta patch and it did seem to render mores smoothly, but 1 seems really drastic down from 1000, and it also seems like that make the render-pop even more dramatic not less?? also, does changing 3d-performance effect anything in game, such as how well things are rendered? mine seems low for my card (no idea tho) and i wonder if it might be cuz i had a 4850 when i first ran a2. any other config tweaks known to help with performance or visuals ? i think matching render to resolution has given me another boost. thx guys -

the SOS scope isn't attachable; i've tried running vanilla as well as my usual modded file. the support showcase for example loads w/out a scope...what's going on??

thanks much robert, i somehow still had a scope addon enabled in the vanilla & that immediately fixed it. was bugging the crap outta me. big fan, btw! -
OR it could be one of those non-lethal crowd control weapons & BI is experimenting with it. but its probably a bug.

what's the reason for the FPS tank around villages?

i was cruising around altis in a strider with smooth fps until i hit a village (not a city) & immediately my fps very noticeably tanked. are there any tricks to fix this or is it just part of arma 3? would an SSD fix this? -
why the fck are the buildings empty anyway??? even if the furnishings were mostly copypastad it'd add a lot to the game & couldn't be that hard...that IS coming,right??

...what happened to the sniper scope??? was it taken out of the dev build temporarily?? to clarify, the SOS scope is still present but can't be attached to the sniper rifles. they also load w/out the scope. -
i suppose it's possible the engine can't handle it...i know that chernarus was a nightmare for some time back in early a2 days. takistan was of course, extremely barren in comparison, & had much better performace. but my hope is that they simply wanted it this way for whatever reason.

from what i've read win 7 or later does a fine job of managing real/virtual cores...it's -extremely- unlikely any micromanaging will yield any noticeable improvement. -
i also agree that there needs to be some excuse made for a dense forested area somewhere. miss that a lot from chernarus.

what issue are you experiencing? the 1 FPS one? my specs, brand-wise, are very similar to yours. i have the latest nvidia drivers installed, & my pagefile is set to 8GB (same as system ram). edit - i also should not i am not running arma on an SSD.

does anyone know how to get a green check for the 'protect the convoy' mission? after youve wiped out the strongpoints & you get the 1 hr later & what appears to be a convoy arrives? i DLd a beta patch but i'm not sure if it's compatible w/ steam, if so perhaps that is the cause??

you might try reloading (apologies if you've already done this a dozen times as you likely have). after resuming i repaired the abrams (though i don't think it was necessary) & the crew loaded up fine. still got nowhere to go with them though. -
i am also stuck at 'protect the convoy' after saving the villagers. surely someone has run into this problem & solved it??

i'm also having trouble with this mission (incl. a problem similar to the one of the OP, among others), so i'll try to post here instead of starting another thread. i got to the village, chose to help, wiped out the militia, then loaded up an abrams & had a bradley for support & headed to the crash site after manually setting it as a task. this was because setting the secure the convoy as a task gave me no waypoint or instructions of any kind, & in fact i could've sworn that's what i'd done when i got to the village (is there a glitch where sometimes it's not checked? sigh). after getting near the crash site i get a warning from HQ that i'm straying from the convoy then a mission over screen. i restarted, & now my crewmen will not enter the tank. they roger, climb on it, then hop off as if it's full (it's not of course). this tank, btw, has not yet been repaired or reloaded, i was waiting for a crew to do that. after reading the above post more clearly it looks the BF2 means before repair instead of after? that would be inconsistent (it worked the first time) but i'll give it a go & report back. meanwhile & more importantly, what the heck am i supposed to do in this town to make progress?? -
when looking thru a scope at enemy AI, lately they have begun to move rather choppily even though my frames are smooth...anyone else have this?

AA also doesn't seem to do much for the graphics. i would like to see some AA off/AA high screen capture comparisons to see if i'm just imagining that. it kills the engine so much it must be doing something major but i don't really see it. certainly not worth the FPS drop (tho on my machine it barely chugs along on AA high, i just leave it off, i think perhaps post-processing covers up a lot of the flaws AA might fix & i like the PP effects so its not a problem for me to turn it on high)

"nobody wants to" this is ridiculous and i am really sick of reading it on these boards. i never play MP. maybe i would love it or probably i would hate it because id prefer a more realistic environment or at least one more catered to my wants. probably in fact, MY personal wants are similar to the MP whiners. but you know what i do because of that instead of complaining about how other people play? i PLAY THE AI, because that way i can set up my own scenarios, my own rules, etc. that is what the game was designed for. and frankly that AI needs work to make that a better experience. i wish these MP kiddies could make their points without resorting to nonsense about how BIS needs to stop working on SP, or AI, or 'no one' wants that. it is nothing short of preposterous.
