  1. wth? ive been able to printscreen full game ever since arma 1.05

    maybe u guys are running windows 7 or vista and thats why

    Yes I don't think there is anything new in this post of mine (which resurrected this thread). I just had to take a screenshot for the first time the other day and didn't know how. Then I searched and found thread after thread saying that you have to have this or that software installed to do so. That turned out to not be necessary.

  2. Just use FRAPS and then use photoshop to reduce size of the image file?

    Yeah that would work too. I was just thrilled to discover that FRAPS does not have to be running (nor installed), and free software could be used to finalize the process. Paint which is installed together with windows can be used in stead of IrfanView, only not as clever.

    If you run the game in windowed mode it will make a screen shot in both games, it just doesn't work in full screen mode, which is kind of a let down from BIS :sad:

    Hi, could you clarify, please - what does not work in full screen mode? My PrintScreen method certainly does....

  3. Just wanted to share as I tried to solve this as well - with A2OA 1.59 you can press the Print Screen button. Then Alt-tab out and open up something like IrfanView and press Paste. Voila, in game screenshot, which you can then save.

    So PrintScreen places the screenshot on the clipboard, not in some hard-to-find file. And you do not need Fraps to make a screenshot.

    Just to clarify: I am not running A2OA windowed, and this was done in the 3D world, ie. not the menu. I am using Windows XP as well.

    Edit: Oh, wow, just have to share this: In Irfanview (which is free/Donationware) you can choose to save the screenshot using "Save for Web" and it will let you input the filesize you are aiming for. That is so cool! Especially since we get hammered here for posting images above 100k. So aim for, say, 95k and it will produce the best image under that constraint. I pay a license for Irfanview, because of things like this, but let me repeat that it is a free product.

  4. Does the mod folder name show in the list at right on the main menu screen and are the pbo's in an \addons sub-folder?

    They are, and they show in the menu GUI. Guess I am good then. Thanks, now I just have to get better at spotting enemies at range :)

  5. Ok, I tried to use the PROPER (low) mod with modfolders. I am not really sure if I have less vegetation now, as Chernarus still seems quite lush. So I was wondering if it was really in effect - is having it as a modfolder enough? Or should you then also adjust some of the ingame visual options?

    Thanks for any pointers,

  6. Ok, but doesnt require at least PMC a higher version then the OA DVD version?

    so maybe you have to install 1.57 before 1.59?

    I think you are fine without pre-patching. The readme says this:

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

    -------------------

    An original version of Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead 1.50-1.58.

    HOW TO INSTALL THE PATCH

    -------------------------

    - Run the patch exe to apply the patch setup automatically.

    - It will install all content of the patch to the folder with your Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead installation.

    - Please note that it is not possible to rollback to a previous version after the installation of this patch, only a full reinstall of the game is possible, if you want to keep your previous version you may want to backup the entire game installation folder before applying this patch.

    - NOTE: This patch will also update your:

    * ARMA 2 1.05 to 1.09.

    * ARMA 2 BAF 1.00 to 1.02 if necessary.

    * ARMA 2 PMC 1.00 to 1.01 if necessary.

  7. What I've seen is that if you build a mission and have addons loaded for that editing session, even though you do not use any of the addons in the mission, they somehow become a requirement for the mission anyway. So always work from a clean session, or just with the addons that you intend to use.

  8. Voted no. The things that Steam do well I have only seen working with Valves own games that my kids play (Team Fortress 2); you have a friends system, an easy way to browse and buy addons etc.

    But I hate that Steam is costing me 20 seconds of startup time, and that I do not have an easy way of playing offline. Also, it seems like mostly a sales channel. While I will gladly pay for good content, especially for kids it can get out of hand because it is too easy to click-and-pay.

  9. I would like to continue to push for separating some AI routines from the 1 cpu core and spreading the load to others. Surely it is possible to move some threads to other cores? The potential performance increase could be game-changing!

    The codebase is designed to accomodate multi cores. But any changes related to core-tasking and threading are usually huge undertakings codewise, requiring a serious amount of post-development testing. So I don't think that BI will risk such a rewrite at this stage. I could be proven wrong, of course :)
