    Arma 2 Community Issue Tracker

Well, after turning down the all graphic settings and what not I finally got Arma II to be somewhat stable in one of the scenerio missions. So I decided to continue my campaign game. I'm int he mission "badlands" and had captured the first two cities then all of a sudden BAM, CTD to desktop with this error message: "Device Failed". So I reload the game and try to load the campaign and get a CTD with error message : "unable to read : //progam files/.../../..save So I can't even continue the campaign. AWESOME. I'm giving up. Gl 2 u all.
  2. I finally got the latest nvidia drivers for the 8800 GT/1Gig, also updated nForce drivers and a small patch was out for directx. Before doing the above I could run Arma 2 in normal or high settings at 1878/1024 and it would be ok until you went into a city and then the game would start glitching and finally CTD in 8 bit color. (Nvdia drivers would crash out completely) After doing all these updates and following the instructions on the first page, the game now randomly crashes at any time, and in much lower resolutions. I can get about 10 - 15 minutes of gaming in, and then crash->reboot. My vid card is not overheating (52C) after 15 minutes of play. I really loved OFP, but never had a chance to play Arma 1, so as you can expect when I saw this coming out I was pretty excited, PLEASE (BI) go and spend $50 on a 8800 GT and resolve the problems. I'm not going to spend $200 more just to play this game when Crysis/Doom 3/GTA al work fine, without problems on high settings. BTW my comp is very clean, almost no services running(no internet connection) very few background programs, no viruses, malware, spyware)

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Well I waited until just last week to purchase this game, figuring they would have most of the bugs worked out, but to my disappointment I still see obvious glitches all over the place. The campaign (I don't have home internet) is what I was looking forward too, but I keep encountering glitches and events not registering and have to keep reloading, etc. As a professional developer myself (J2EE) I really am disappointed how the gaming development business has been operating. It's not the developers faults at all, as they are just trying to meet their objectives on schedule. The companies need to stop relying so much on beta version, patch, patch, patch, patch aproach... It's actually more cost effective to tack on 3-5 months of development and publish a good product rather then keep patching because the patch, patch approach rushes things and in such a large piece of software everything can affect everything else so you end up creating more bugs then what you fix. This approach may bring in $$ fast but the clients (us) are more reluctant to buy the next title, expansion, etc. I def. know I waiting until next year to get the exp. and that's only if these other bugs ever get fixed. I am lead developer on a massive project for NYS that has been in development for over 7 years and this is the approach that I have implemented. Also limit your developers and stay away from sub contractors.
  4. Ren, Same setup basically as detailed in your first post. I can play nicely in all areas except for cities. The lighting is causing CTD or complete freeze up. Sometimes it will crash the drivers and the desktop will appear in 8 bit color, and you have to reboot. I have yet to install the newest drivers (1.90...) but I will do so today after work and see if it makes a difference. I had some success but I hope turning physx off and the new drivers will at least make the game playable. Very odd I am getting between 60 and 100 frames/ps with all high settings in 1878x1024 (or something close) in the open fields but like I said this bug is def. related to how the 8800 GT is processing light reflections from buildings and spotlights. I have a reproducable CTD that is only reproduced when I look at the spotlight in front of me, otherwise I can continue on without any problems.
