  1. No worries mate, as said, your insights are greatly appreciated and will surely avoid many newcomers errors :-D As for Maddox, well, for me he behaves much better in Manhattan which is a relief, and I did not change anything to my LZ setting style hehehehe There was just this one weird "glitch" during which right after the Lagushina lady pick-up Maddox would systematically land right inside LZ Jersey even though I would set the LZ in neighbouring fields across the road...but at least he did not kill me. Also, have you seen your team mates injure/kill themselves while trying to board the chopper through the rear rotor? I had to load my game again when it happened :-/
  2. I have to disagree as well. Thanks for your guide but I have personally witnessed instances when Maddox would try to land on houses, trees or electric lines when you have clearly set a LZ in an open and flat field. I think I am not the only one reporting this. Also, contrary to what you state in your guide, I have seen Maddox take off on me at least three times as soon as my 3 mates were in, even though I was juste a couple of meters away. He took off and hovered above, the only way for me to get in would be to set a new LZ. At least for me, there is definitely counter-examples of Maddox taking off WITH guys inside (I took the habit of waiting for my 3 mates to get inside since every time I'd order to embark and went there as well, the last guy would be unable to comply, forcing me to order embark again). I really appreciate your work and tips, but I am not the only one reporting such weir behavior, and I doubt all of us who are are noobs purposely asking a helo land on top of pine trees or mountain sides just so we can cry for bugs about it later...
  3. As a new player to ARMA 2, but interested in strategy&tactic in many fields for some time now, I can only thank you and all the people associated to this magnificient and helpful work. It seems you can benefit from it whether you are a total noob (the good kind, the learning kind!) or a vet' and I can not even start to imagine the collective work it represents... And all of this for free, just for passion...it's almost embarrassing! Many, many thanks... Just a quick note for the ref part: it seems FMFM 6-5 is now MCWP 3-11.2, available at this address (it is missing from your references): http://www.marines.mil/news/publications/Documents/MCWP%203-11.2%20Marine%20Rifle%20Squad.pdf
  4. Just a quick note about Maddox: he seems very clumsy in this mission (he was the main cause of me restarting it many times), but he seems to improve much in Manhattan. I did not have any crashes with him in this mission, although he can still act very weird and land quite far from where you set the LZ...but at least he stays alove, even surrounded by trees... Maybe he had time to learn :D
  5. Hello all, first post here. Like a lot of posters here, I had troubles with that mission. I play in Vet' and had only one save slot (this thing sure is aggravating) and had to restart this mission numerous time, mainly because of that idiot Maddox who would crash his helo when landing, or some of my men thinking it's appropriate to run through the tail rotor to board... Anyway, I always stuck to the "go to Staroye find Oligitch who sends you to the power plant" routine, with the hope of exploring further the coastal city and the quarries mentionned after (the latter are, if you noted, heavily mentionned in the profiles or conversations you have at the main base). Which I never really did because of stupid deaths... So here I am doing it for the thousandth time, leaving Staroye on to the power plant and to my surprise, I see a brand new, flashy red, conspicuous VW golf AND a bus parked INSIDE the power plant. The rest doesn't change, doorman does not help, nothing is in here. Very very puzzled, I send three men in helo to the coastal city while I keep Sykes up in the tower just in case, to check around. Then I see this weird blue car with a red hood stopping in the distance, as it has seen my sniper it seems. By the time I coordinate the guys in the helo, I get a game over message because my sniper died in a unidentifed fashion... More troubled than ever, I try doing the same scheme (thank God my save point was here), but putting only two guys in helo and leaving two man ambusing the road, one hidden in the hill and the other around a curve. Bingo, the same car arrives. I stop it by shooting the tires and here is my man Bardak running the country to flee. After numerous failed attemps at reasoning and arresting him, I had to shoot him which ended my mission. Less glorious than arresting him for a deserved trial but much more satisfying than letting the scum run away. My theory is the following: I have seen a poster mentionning he stopped Bardak in a bus. In my game, there was both the well-known VW red Golf AND the bus parked in the power plant. It seems that Bardak eventually arrives there in his crap car and switches vehicle to go somewhere else, maybe the quarry of the coastal city afterwards (it was about 11:30 AM). I don't know if that can work without doing the Oligitch part and how many more spawn points/behavior options there are for this guy (maybe there are games in which he spawns and stays only in the quarry?). But if you do the part in Staroye quick enough and end up seeing out-of-place vehicules in the power plant when you arrive, keep a discrete watch on the road because chances are the big fish will gently jump into your net... Hope that helped...I'm off to the Manhattan mission too. It looks...wide...and so very open...we'll see!
