Hi all, I have been getting a long stutter/freeze every so often. It happens about every 5-15 mins, and lasts for about seconds before my fps creeps back up in about another 2 secs - so its pretty annoying. I seems to happen fairly randomly, although it seems to often happen when looking through a scope the first time in a while. I get 30-60fps otherwise while playing warfare on all very high or ultra settings at 4xAA at 1920x1200. My specs are: Windows 7 64bit i5 4670K @ 4.4 [stock atm due to cooler trouble] Corsair H100i Cooler Corsair HX850 PSU ASUS Maximus Hero 16GB G.Skill @ 1600 2x HD7970 crossfire Samsung 840 SSD [OS+ARMA3 installation] Seagate Barracuda 2TB Sometimes the textures flicker as the fps comes back up to normal, and it feels like it might be something loading into the memory, but i have no idea really. I have tried the following: -All kinds of ARMA 3 startup parameters -Virus scan -Malware scan -Update all drivers -CC clean The only thing that 'seems' to have helped is installing Samsung's Magician software which may have reduced how often this occurs. But i'm not 100% sure if it has, and it certainly hasn't stopped it. I have put it on the 'performance' setting, and it says that the drive is in good condition. Does anyone have an idea what this might be? I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. Any help is appreciated.

Ah right, I thought the feedback tracker was for issues and bugs. Although i guess the name is feedback and not bug tracker, lol, makes sense. -

I was going to make a post about this myself. Please BI do something about these very, very average trees. The trees, along with the mid-range textures are letting down the graphics significantly. The graphics are better than ARMA 2, no question. The lighting especially is far better. Are the graphics four years better? Well, IMO probably not as ARMA 2 was one of the best looking games out in 2009, but ARMA 3 will struggle graphically comming out late 2013. Either way, these trees really need some love. They end up looking like cardboard cutouts, with little depth, variation in shade and lacking any sort of detail. They also have no variation in hue and a forest tends to look like it has one tree coppied 200 times, which for 2013 is a worry. Very close up, there isn't much problem. From a distance, say 1km, there isn't too much of a problem. Between 30-1000m, however, these trees really need some help. Hopefully these are only Alpha trees. -
It helped for me mate... Its gonna take 2 mins for anyone to try. What do you want a series of charts and diagrams? :icon_rolleyes:

Well, I just tried an old arma 2 trick after searching for fixes. Changing the 'GPU_MaxFramesAhead' from 1000 down to 1 in the config file gave me about an extra 10 frames [at a guess, not using fraps]. So going from quite hard to play frame rates on multiplayer ie. ~20-25fps it has become really smooth. Also testing the helicopter mission adds quite a few frames and although it probably drops to 30fps sometimes, the majority its quite far above it and probably 10 frames above what I had before. For anyone that hasn't tried the config file is found at documents/Arma 3 Alpha/Arma3Alpha.cfg It wasn't me that found it, as I said was from arma 2. I also doubt it will be a fix for everyone, but if you haven't tried it, give it a go.

I don't know if this has been covered before in this thread but I'll post it anyway. I know that all the ARMA series have been pretty hard on the CPU, and the reasons I have heard have been to do with the fact that the AI is so advanced and all the objects it needs to load/unload. While I have been testing I noticed that when in the editor, with just a player in a helicopter my CPU cores stay at about 80%,0%,40%,0%,40%,0%,0%,40% [cpucount is at 4 - i7 920, 16gb ram and HD7970]. I figured that this was just all the objects loading/unload etc while flying around [no AI present]. The strange thing is that I then landed, turned off the engine and just left the view stay in the same place, and my CPU stayed in basically exactly the same load on all cores... I have all quality settings on very high or ultra, 2xAA and view distance at about 1700. What am I missing here, what is the CPU doing all this time if not working out AI paths/behavior, loading objects, physics or working out trajectories?? Is the engine just rendering alot of graphics on the CPU? Even at alpha stage without optimisation, I don't understand what the CPU could be doing?

Yep, same story here. I get good frame rates sometimes in SP with mostly very high settings, 2-3k distance, 2xAA - probably around 40-50fps max with vsync off. But in multiplayer the fps halves. If there are a reasonable amount of AI it also halves. Basically most of the time im playing its around 20-30fps. Even in intensive scenes the first core of my CPU is at around 70% but the rest are lucky if they get to 30%. My GPU is far worse, and seems to be only at 20% utilization mostly, with overclocking not appearing to add any extra fps. System Specs are: i7 920 @ 3Ghz Asus P6T Mobo 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws Asus HD7970 @ ~1125/1500 Corsair 850TX

Help with novice editor for university research

Thanks guys. I have started trying to put the model into the game but am having problems with the geometry LOD not being there [i might post in the modelling section for this]. Even if I just use a simple box it still doesnt work [i have used find components and changed the mass to 30,000 but still nothing] As for using waypoints for AI, will I have to do it with waypoints telling the AI to go from house position 1 to house positition 2? Or is there some better method? -
Help with novice editor for university research
meat_helmet posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi all, I am studying a Masters of Architecture and want to use the editor to 'test' a design proposal of a train station against the existing station. Basically theres two parts to it: The easy part: I want to import 3d models of the existing station and my design and get friends to 'walk' through them to test the layout and how easy it is to navigate. The hard part: To further test the movement patterns I want to populate the model with hundreds of civilian AI to walk through so movement patterns and bottlenecks can be studied. Now I have been trying to find out if I can do all this, but its gonna take ages to figure it all out and I dont have alot of time, so I thought I would ask firstly if it can be done. The issues as I can see are: - Can AI be placed in 3D buildings to navigate around themselves like they do on terrain, or do paths have to be set up in oxygen with the model? [i would prefer the AI to chose the wayfinding themselves] - Can the side limit of 144 be exceeded somehow? - Is it possible to create a camera to view the station from a birds eye view? Can this be done reasonably easily? Or is it really going to take alot of scripting [which I am pretty terrible at...]? If its going to be really hard I might instead do it in Crysis sandbox. Thanks guys. -

I also have the exact same problem (ontop of all my other CTDs) with Vista 64bit and the nVida 195.62 drivers. My performance is alot worse, textures popping in and out all over the place and sometimes severe artifacting leading to a crash (at a mere 50 degrees C i might add). Terrible drivers for ARMA2 in my opinion, im reverting immediately. Vista 64bit i7 920 GTX 285 Asus P6T -
Crashing to Desktop Still.... NO answers or fixes
meat_helmet replied to djkmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ive tried it all as well (yes the usual -winxp etc.) and I still get them all the time. Still no fix as far as I know. I find it funny (no in the HAHA way) they have released 4 patches and everyone still gets them... Vista 64 i7 920 GTX285 6GB RAM -
Artefacts and Graphic Bugs till crash Poll

This issue is new for me since the 1.04 patch. The other 'normal' crash to destop is much more common for me. -
Shit patch, new issues... This game would be 10/10 if it worked.

Artefacts and Graphic Bugs till crash Poll
meat_helmet replied to neojd[ny]'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Same exact same thing happened to me. So they havent fixed the other two types of crashes i get (normal CTD and CTD with game still running in background...), and they have actually introduced a new one with this patch!! I am getting sick and tired of this. It has become beyond an incovinience and is totally wrecking the gameplay now as these crashes have a really big impact when your playing something like warfare. And btw i am using the -winxp bs which does absolutely nothing for me. Vista x64 i7 920 6GB Ram GTX 285 Isnt this the kind of stuff that should be ironed out in the Alpha testing?? So far the original version of the game is just about the best for me, each patch introduces more problems without fixing the old... -
Yep, happens to me, along with other crashes. i7 920 + gtx285 + 6gb ram.
