    Any thoughts or ideas?

Also go into editor mode , create a single unit. and push Preview and see if, without ANYTHING going on around you but your guy standing there, you still have the same problem OR if the mouse moves alot smoother, I BET YOU IT DOES. If you do still have the same problem it meens you and the rest of us have computers that cant handle everything thats going on , CPU and graphic card related and try turning your video settings down to normal to increase Frame rates. Alot of the time its purely frame rate problems with mouse movement. If FPS is to low it would definately cause mouse lagg. Dont worry YOU are not the only one having this problem with Arma 1or 2. We all need better CPU's and graphics cards for this game OR Bohemia Interactive are crazy and are HUGE risk takers and need a much more optimised approach to thier game engine for thier games. I vote on better game engine than there 10 year old engine, like a completely new game engine. Same game but a new and improved "I can run on anything" game type engine would be nice so peopel can RUN the damn thing properly with todays hardware.
  2. You are so right, why the hell did they not do it this way??. Because they are German? :) Complicated people?

Arma II is going on the shelf...

Dont throw this game out until youve played around with the editor mode. Performance is WAY better than single player and you get no CTD's in editor and you can make your own missions really easy.
  4. they dont do that, because the majority of games done require 8 gb ram. And MOST people dont even have close to 8GB RAM. I still only have 3GB ram, im not going out and wastin gmy money on 8gb ram and a nividia 295GTX when that card is practically Obsolete now this Arma 2 has arrived. The moral of the story DO NOT UPGRADE COMPUTER BEFORE A GAME COMES OUT. always upgrade computer a year later or 2 after a game tests you hardware to the limit.
  5. hmmm im not so sure anymore. When i first played the editor i was like, yeah Arma 2 all the way(I still love that editor), this game is amazing. Then i played single player, with the crashes and CTD's, and problems. I think COdemasters OPeration flashpoint2 is going to be more playable on release because it HAS to be if its going on consoles. I think unfortunately there are going to be ALOT of people that are going to like OFP2 more than Arma 2 just simply out of performance. If you have a BAND of Musicians that are AMAZING but cant play in time together , they sound awful, even though they are all good musicians, they will never make it, because they arent in time with one another. However another band can make bad music and arent very good musicians , but be very successful just purely because they are in time and sound in harmony with one another, together. Arma 2 really should of come out Next year, because people that have never played operation flashpoint before or never played Arma will be very hesitant in going out straight away and buying another Bohemia product on release(Regardless of how good the game is). Call of Duty 4 is successful not because its very good or has any substance, multiplayer is pretty tactless, its successful because it WORKS when you buy it and you KNOW its going to work out of the box and do what you knew it would do when you bought it. You know that your computer will at least run it reasonably well for one thing. (call of duty 2, when it came out though couldnt be run properly, till the next generation of hardware came out , mind you) Call of duty 4 MW for some reason could be run on everyone's hardware, the engine was obviously catered for the currant generation of stuff and wasnt future proofed to much.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Yep, what a shame it was released in such a bad state, they should of released it 2 years from now. I love this game too more than any other war game out there or ever made. I hate when developers future proof to the point where nobody can play it properly the day its released, its a silly and crazy way of doing it. Thier engine needs fixing. Its like a faucet that keeps coming loose, it wont matter how many times you tighten it to stop leaking , you just need to get off your ass and go get a NEW ONE. Same goes for this game engine. They have to stop tying to fix the bugs and design a new improved version of it. Yep you are all right in saying that Codemasters will release thier game alot less buggy than this. What a shame because we all know that codies version wont be comparable to this game. (it will be a fun game though) It just meens that next time Bohemia make a game everyone will be VERY reluctant about purchasing it straight away. I wont be buying any more Bohemia games when they are released unless i hear that everything is running great.
  7. i didnt meen just graphic cards i meant cpu's aswell. And your right it IS cpu intensive more so than graphic settings. Its like Rome total War when it first came out and Intel core 2 duo's came out later, no one could run Rome properly without the advanced CPU's of the future. NOW they can run masses of amounts of units on screen purely because of CPU. Pc Gaming definately has its large pitfalls. If we want to play Arma 2, we are almost better off waiting for a year or 2 with the next generation of CPU's and graphic cards. I also agree that this game should of been released AFTER codemasters Operation Flashpoint 2 Dragon rising to get rid of as many bugs as they could.:):):):)
  8. this is a horrible truth in pc gaming, but XP is really the gaming operating System. You will get an increase of 20-50% FPS using xp and there isnt any reason to use windows 7 at all, for any reason what so ever, at the moment. Why are you people using windows 7?. That is the big question. Matter of fact, why did any of you even upgrade to Vista?, what a joke DX10 was. I played with Vista for ages(well a month) and DX10 was a massive waste of time(yay cool looking lighting ,awesome, and a 10-30 fps drop in performance) destroyed performance in a big way. Back to xp , performance is awesome and all games run great. And DX9 looks fantastic. You guys that upgrade your computers with every little upgrade that comes along are insane. I run a 8800GTS 512mb, intel core 2 duo 2.66Ghz, 2 GB ram. NO issues with Arma2 apart from textures going blocky and graphic glitches on windows on buildings, no big deal, and I get consistant 35 fps throughout single player mode. and 60-70 fps in editor mode. Unless i run 365 infantry, 35 tanks and 25 planes on screen at once, THEN the games FPS goes down to 5 - 10 fps. Which is understandable considering tomorrows hardware in 2 years time will run this game fine. As expected like any or every other pc good graphic game that has come out in the past. Nobody could run Crysis properly until the magic 8800 series graphic cards came out then, hey presto, Crysis ran fine. Same thing will happen with arma 2 but in a year or 2 years time. Secondly run game on normal graphic settings regardless of what your hardware is because no CPU or graphic cards combined can run this game properly at the moment, and kill SLI mode + dont worry about little texture pop ups , they arent much of a big deal, you get use to it. This game is amazing , its a shame that people cant get passed very minor graphic issues and silly design decisions that MOST of these problems arent even bugs , we just dont have the hardware to run this game properly yet on full speed. Yes even the beloved Nividia 295gtx will not run this game smooth. I have to ask those people why they bothered in the first place if all the other games previously to Arma 2 ran great. Why upgrade ?

Arma II is going on the shelf...

i get NONE of the problems you guys are having. However , turn Post-processing on low and everything else to normal and AA OFF. there is NO computer out there in this currant generation of cards , processors, that can play this game with smooth frame rates on high graphic settings. It is future proofed to hell. Just like Oblivian before it, just like no one could run Crysis until the 8800 series of cards came out. In 2 years time with hardware 2 years from now, you WILL be able to run Arma 2 in all its glory , but right now the game looks great on normal and AA OFF and its too good a game to worry about stupid little things like window textures flickering. My specs 8800 GTS 512mb, 2 gb ram, intel core 2 duo processor 2.66Ghz. Runs at 35 fps consistently on normal graphic settings and post processing on low. YES i get textures popping in and out , and yes some of the missions need to be explained ALOT better by the developers in briefings like , you can only do ONE artillary strike THAT...IS...IT(Its not a bug) and if you stray to far away from your mission you will get shot by invisible enemies. Heres a tip :>:>:> When pc gaming remember this "ONLY UPGRADE YOUR PC a YEAR OR TWO AFTER a game that stresses your hardware out actually comes out, then upgrade to new graphic cards and processors etc. Never upgrade your computer before a game comes out, because it is INSTANTLY OBSOLETE". IF you think just because you have a nividia 295GTX and the latest crap windows7 system for gaming and you can run Arma 2 with everything on very high with the latest hardware you have been duped by nividia and Bohemia into buying stuff prematurely. If games come out and you can run them sweet, why upgrade computer?, unless you cant run games anymore? What you are trying to do is future proof YOUR computer without any needing to. However its not your computer that needs future proofing, because games will come out eventually that only can be played on high graphics, 2 years down the track, its a fact, because games are always trying to push the boundaries of graphics and lighting and are always trying to future proof it for the NEXT GENERATION of video cards and processors NOT this generation (Nividia 295gtx for e.g.) Because if they didnt do that, why would Nividia and Intel support the gaming industry with hardware later on $$$$$$$$$$$$? You think They do this to video cards for people that like watching movies?. GET REAL, they do it to get the money off gamer's in the future. Why buy something if you dont need it yet. There is no game out at the moment apart from Arma 2 that requires anything higher, spec wise, than a single 8800GTS 512mb card and a intel core 2 duo 2.66Ghz. However now i know (because a game like Arma 2 has come out) in a years time, probably 2, i will need to upgrade my system. Why before, when its not necessary? XP still runs games better than vista its a fact. SO why bother? There is ALWAYS a series of video cards that come out in a years time or 2 years time that magically make all the latest games like Arma 2, run really well all of a sudden. Its like magic, when 8800 series came out all of a sudden Everyone could run Crysis and Oblivian , its like magic. LOL. :):):):):) remember WAIT for the magic to happen, before YOU try and make the magic come prematurely when upgrading your pc. Because you will get duped over and over and over and over again. Wai tfor that special game like Arma 2 or Crysis to come out, Wait a year or 2(Preferably 2) Then go all out and upgrade to ALL the latest stuff. However i do agree that the spec system NEEDS to change on game boxes to stop this bs that has been happening with future proofing games on pc's for the last 10 years, well since 1995. There needs to be minimum requirements, medium requirements, developer requirements and FUTURE requirement specs so people know they cant run a game properly on high graphic settings and have good performance aswell before they buy the game on all the latest hardware.

    How do I complete Badlands?!

Man i wished this thread was stickied so everyone can just come and look at how people have done it, instead of running around saying how buggy badlands and the game is. When its not even that bad providing you follow the rules of engagement properly. Unless you have your graphics on massively high , no computer at the moment can run this game with everything maxed out and get a 60 fps consistant gameplay all the way through single player its just not possable with todays hardware at the moment. Its been future proofed to hell. Ive been playing the single game on medium, looks fine, runs ok, found out alot of the bugs i thought were bugs werent actually bugs they were actual design decisions (the developers just have a very bizarre trial and error technique, which REALLY SUX at times).

    Manhatten Bug List

ive had none of these problems. However, i dont think the helicopter helps you till after you have to try and escape BACK to the carrier, when your trying to flee the island. Then the helicopter support is available for you to escape, its a design decision unfortunately not a bug YOU CAN ONLY USE ARTILLARY ONCE, what do you think "Use it wisely" meens???? the briefing at the very start even says so before the Manhatton mission. Secondly Boomarang ONLY COMES WHEN YOU FIND THE FIELD HOSPITAL , normally a guy in town will tell you that here is a camp East of the hill at that Kra'(the town starting with K,lol :) ). The field hospital comes up on your map in RED. Once you approach the field hospital (ONCE you find it , that is) THEN BOOMARANG comes it can take a long time so you can do the mission without Boomarang and they still will arrive, its simple really. You shoot the Nikilai guy At the enemy field hospital , boomarang arrives misson done completed. ... OVER!!!. SIMPLE. The mission wont end if there are still enemies alive so make sure you check ALL the tents and medical bays surrounding the camp, some guys hide under beds and suff. Tip DO NOT STRAY AWAY FROM YOUR MISSION ,FOLLOW THE MARKERS dont think of this game as a grand theft auto where you can just go wherever you want and do mission whatever you feel like. Do missions one at at time and step by step and LISTEN to the locals. As soon as you arrest that or shoot that Nikilai guy when you FIND the field hospital, the Manhatton mission will end and you will then be told to go back to the FOB Manhatton base. The missions themselves in Arma 2 are alot more linear than we all expected, because if you go to anywhere you want on the map while you are doing your missions , you get SHOT by invisible enemies you cant see. Again you have to understand that this game is hard, its not easy ,the PLAYER has to hold the hand of your team mates and Ai. the game however, does not hold YOUR hand when ordering guys around be methodical, precise with ordering guys and understand the games flaws by practising in editing mode with your troop ordering and remember the SPACE BAR and 7 button. The bugs you guys are refferring to arent even bugs. FOLLOW the markers. Also i recommend only using the helicopter to escape when told at the END of the mission that the Manhatton FOB HQ has been attacked to escape the island. Dont use it before hand, just use the APC's to get around in the Manhatton missions. If you stray to far away from the mission at hand which is FIND THE FIELD HOSPITAL and kill main guy there, you will get lost and you wont do the mission properly and you will start thinking that its bugged. I got through Manhatton first go without any of these issues you people have brought up. Before you even play the campaign mode i recommend you go to editor, create some units, and order your guys around for a bit, its fun and youll learn the flaws of the game alot easier than trying to learn them WHILE you are playing the campaign mode with enemies shooting you......:):):)
  12. im only just up to Badlands now, when i complete ill come back and tell you how to do it.
  13. the main thing for me is BIS should of only designed one mode. Thats warfare mode only and co-op mode for Multiplayer. Then we would all be not worrying about anything but warfare mode. Battlefield 2 only has one mode. Counter strike only one mode. Call of duty 4 SHOULD of only had one mode team deathmatch mainly. Arma 2 should only have 1 mode, WArfare and co-op. Its not defined enough on the multiplayer front. More servers need to go up that are warfare based.
  14. turn all of your graphics on medium and vid mem on high or normal. I bet you get a massive fps increase. This game is massively future proofed on very high settings. Not because of the textures, which personally i think Crysis was way beyond this in texture graphics and detail (WAY BEYOND). However performance wise with loads of things happening in the single player map all at once. Grass and trees and heaps of other sht, thats whats causing the low fps. So turn your graphics down a bit. Also see if you can play the editor mode without these issues and IF it runs way better in the editor, your issues are barely any different to people like ME running a 8800 GTS 512mb. My comp runs flawlessly on the editor but 35fps - 50 fps on Single player. Another thing is 8800gts 512mb people have turned their graphics down and dealt with it, so of course they are going to get better fps than people trying to run it maxed out like you guys. This is no different to the Crysis game when it first came out or Oblivian or any other brand new generation game that comes out and kicks all of our specs out the window. Remember the saying for pc gamers "Dont go for perfect, always go for good enough" Only upgrade the year AFTER a game comes out that you cant run, not before. :):):) Sad but true.

ARMA2 CTD - lots of times today

turn your graphics on medium and see if the problem persists. with AA OFF. Why your even bothering trying to play this gam eon very high is beyond me. Very high is for computer hardware a year or 2 down the track. Expect crashes if your trying to run this game maxed out.
  16. Im surprised you guys can even run this game on 1900x1200 resolution withh AA on even on low. without ridiculously low fps. I recommend you guys all turn your graphics on medium and get used to it. I personally dont think the graphics are better than Crysis or even close on high or even very high, especially not textures its the amount of sht going on in the map thats slowing our comps down swaying trees and grass and units walking around in single player mode etc. If you turn your graphics down from high to medium youll get a average of 35 - 50 fps throughout and have a way better game experience.
  17. nyran125

    Buildings flickering

everyone has that. It meens, turn your graphics and AA DOWN or AA off. This game is extreme on the high end computer scale. Next years or the years after's high end computers will run this game on high, not this years. Scale everything down. This game doesnt look that bad on medium and youll get a huge performance increase and youll get use to it. We are all having these glitches on graphics. Alot of it comes in the single player mode because of low FPS with everything happening around you all at once and hardware strain. Go to the editor, create a unit as a player(YOU) and see if the graphic glitches on buildings still happens without any units on sceen. IF it doesnt happen , which is what is expected, then its the same problem we all have. Our comps arent hardcore enough at the moment. Same when Crysis came out 3 years ago, same with Oblivian before that even battlefield 2 on release did it(it sucks , i know) and tons of other games. Dont let this problem stray you away from how awesome this game is.
  18. nyran125

Tell me this didn't just happen.

Are you for real about the whole making a fire thing ? becaus ei fyou are you would of been spotted. Secondly if you were on the crest of the hill they could of seen your silouette in the distance or your scouts or anything. ANYTHING could of happened. If you are truly out of sight ive been in broad daylight before and got my men to move from one bush to another without getting spotted.

    South Africa!

Steam is fine. I bought it from steam , no issues here. The only annoying thing is that horrible 4gb update download for the patch i hope thats fixed. But apart from that, remember if you buy from steam you ALWAYS have your copy on file to use anywhere in the world to download if you uninstall game. Pretty handy to me.
  20. Ive tested this a bit. The best way is have 2 guys opposite ends of each other. Lots of grass in between. You will notice the Ai will only spot you if you get up. Or he has a visual. The hard thing about this way of doing it . Is HE can spot YOU , but you cant spot him. Thats the hard thing to deal with for me sometimes. If your higher up and hes lower its easier obviously. It becomes pretty difficult if hes right next to you but you still cant see him and you know if you start firing he will just automatically annihilate you from nowhere. In reality wouldnt it be really difficult for him to be able to shoot you properly if he cant see you and vice versa? wouldnt there be more of an innacurate firefight if both cant see each other? By the way dont hesitate to buy this game, the single player will take you a while anyway while all the bugs gets sorted out and the editor is amazing. It will take you awhile just to get use to commanding your troops buttons dont expect to have all your graphics on high either its still enjoyable on medium graphics. Regardless of all this stuff this game is really REALLY good. And as far as reality goes. I dont think you would really be sitting or lying down in grass in real life to hide from someone(you wouldnt even be in that position in the first place. You would find a tree or a wall anyway or a building. No way would you be just lying down next to your enemy, lol think about that for a second. Look at bastogne in World war 2. They didnt just lie down in grass or snow they dug themselves holes or got behind something or built small walls. They never just lied down in the grass, lol. You would get murdered in real life too having that strategy. your either stationary behind something planning your next attack or defense or running like hell to get to the next cover. UNLESS you miles away from your enemy and you KNOW it there is noway you would be just sitting there lying in grass.
  21. gah , i doubt very much if you put the ai on 100% hardness in the editor, they will be easy. Maybe just dumbed down in campaign mode? 1074 hours Kremator HOLY HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I personally think they should change the hardware recommended spec system on packaging. It should have Minimum specs (cant run it basically, lol.) high end specs(run it on medium most probably) and developers specs(WHAT the #*$&@$ developers made the game with) and FUTURE specs what you will need in order to run it the way it should be run.
  23. nyran125

    Aiming like im on steroids

I dont have any probs. I do understand that the aiming is very different to gamea like CS and battlefield and stuff. Also if your hardware isnt up to scratch you will get uneven mouse lagg, and mouse issues. Same if you are playing a driving game on pc with a wheel, if your hardware is finding it difficult to run the game, low FPS can cause HUGE mouse and controller problems. Especially if the game is glitching in places because it cant keep up with what your trying to do.
  24. RIGHT, FOR THOSES THAT ARE GETTING SHOT OUT OF NOWHERE FOR NO REASON, THIS is not a bug, its a design decision to STOP you going and doing whatever you want in a campaign mission. In Manhatton when you are escaping the island you may experience DYING without any reason behind it or anybody around. YOU MAY even think its a bug, you may even think(like i did) the NAPA guys were shooting you for no reason when you are trying to get back to the carrier ship to escape. This is NOT the case. IF YOU Stray away from Your mission or go where the game designers dont want you to go, then you get shot by invisible enemies, its not a bug. Its part of the game. YES, that also meens that the campaign is linear and NOT as sandbox as we all thought. YOU will die trying to do missions anyway you like from invisible enemies. Another tip only use helicopter if absolute necessary and drive around to do missions, dont fly there. Iv ehad to learn all these things the hardway however if you do it this way you will be less frustrated with the campaign mode, understanding its flaws. , I dont like the way this is done, i think they should of had calls from the sgt.'s or someone higher up telling you Not to go to certain areas or enemies will shoot you out of nowhere, just to avoid this confusion. BIS havent done it that way. We all had to figure it out for ourselves. So the moral of this story is if your getting shot out of nowhere it meens YOU are NOT on the right path for your mission and you have to go another way. To solve the Manhatton mission issue( once you get back to the FOB Manhatton base) after your mate spencer dies. Bring up your communication menu and get the helicopter to come get you, but dont just call the copter, go somewhere a little safer than on the top of the hill like just behind the peak of the hill at FOB so the copter doesnt get shot down. That erradicates all the invisable enemy stuff. If you do it another way like drive for miles, you must find the CORRECT way of approach that doesnt get you shot and killed out of nowhere from an invisable enemy, however this method is trial and error.(Sad but true) . Another tip in the campaign is FOLLOW the markers and missions step by step dont just do what you want (thats actually more realistic than you may think if a real soldier went off and did what he wanted hed be on breakfast duty for a month so FOLLOW your missions one by one, step by step), i dont recommend playing your first campaign through on Expert difficulty. I recommend you do it on regular first so you can use the markers to get to your destinations, then, once you complete the entire game on regular, THEN, go do it on expert. Doing it on expert first will probably be more problematic for you.
  25. Oh yeah, one other thing, Enjoy the process of learning the buttons of controlling your soldiers. If your soldiers arent moving when you tell them too. push space bar, then 7 then safe mode, then space again then 7 button and stand up. After that dont regroup. Tell them, to move somewhere THEN push regroup after they have moved. Just incase your having trouble. I found that this method if soldiers arent doing what they are told, can sometimes help soldiers to wake the hell up and move when you tell them too. Start getting use to the SPACE bar and the 7 button. Because your soldiers may still be in danger mode or some other mode automatically. Also try the editor mode for your soldier ordering training. :):):):) just some tips:) Just you, the wonderful landscape at Utes and your soldiers. Build some cows, some chickens, maybe even a small quick mission ,seige area or something. It helps in the heat of battle in campaign to know your buttons a bit better.
