  1. Hi, I have 6 sqaud members (F2 to F7) Suppose I want to get one of them to go to a certain position, what I need to know is how do I know which is F3 or which is F6 for instance without pressing each F number in turn and seeing which one's diamond highlights? Something like i just look at the soldier I want to command and see what F number he is?
  2. Firstly it has to be said that if you don’t like the Arma series then you won’t like this or if you haven’t tried any of the Arma games then you’ll need be prepared to put in a lot of time to learn how this engine works. Also if you’re after a traditional FPS (COD, BF3) then avoid any of the Arma engine games. I’ve read loads of negative views on Iron Front but after a bout 10 hours play I think a lot of it’s a bit too harsh. Yes there are numerous bugs and the game is seriously lacking that final polish but nothing a few visits to this forum or the Arma forums can’t help you with and underneath lurks what could be a great game. I haven’t tried the MP side as from what I hear the servers are dead or populated by hackers which is a shame. One thing that does bug me is how come on Arma2OA I get a nice smooth 60 -70 FPS but on Iron Cross I’m lucky to get 25 -30? Still playable though. I’m just hoping the modding community take this game up and get it running even if the devs don’t. Also I’ve still to delve into the editor which I’m told is blindingly capable. The enemy AI so far seems better than most FPS's can offer, the graphics are great (if a little juddery now and then) and what always need to be remembered is the sheer scale of the maps. I only paid £14.00 for Iron Front and I consider that to be a bargain, lots of fun so far and lots more to come especially if there’re further patches to give that final polish. Between this and DAYZ I’m having a ball with Arma. Go buy Iron front and help keep it alive and kicking. P.S If you do buy it don't get despondant with the initial training missions, they are crap and as buggy as a T.T racers visor. Think of it like going to an expensive restaurant and being given prawn cocktail for starters, just gobble it down and wait for the main course. **** Revised Opinion **** Having now played some 20 hours I'm afraid to say my initial impressions have gone into reverse. Once you arrive in any kind of battle with tanks the whole game slows to about 12 -16 FPS, totally unplayable and no settings make any difference. Also trying to get your AI squad to do anything remotely logical is just impossible. One for the shelf and hope for some patches.

    How old are Arma2 Players?

I sure feel a lot older than when I began to try and get ARMA 2 running.

Patches won't run, Fot F**** sake

Thanks for the reply, I went to try what you sugested, i un-installed but now I'm unable to re-install, even in safe mode. I've run CC cleaner and AML reg cleaner and deleted any files associated with Arma2 that I can find. I think I've spent about 30 hours trying to get this game running now, any one up for kidnapping all the devs and pulling their nails out with a JCB, inflict some touture on them equal to the torture thay are inflicting on us, (yes I know I could bin it if I wanted but thats beside the point)
  5. Finally got it installed on Win 7 by re-installing while in safe mode. Game ran fine and 5-6 FPS better than on my dual boot XP. Great I thought, went to patch and the patches wont work, 'Error found in ADDONs\air2.pbo' downloaded 3 times so not a corrupt download, tried in safe mode and UAC off, still no good. I've been playing PC games for 20 years and I can honestly say without doubt this is the most unfinished release ever put up for sale. Damn thing is the game looks good so I want to play it. ---------- Post added at 01:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:34 PM ---------- So friken frustrated I can't even type propepley.

CRC File Copy Error (my solution)

Yeh, the reason I went for Win 7 was because I'd read favourable reports on this forum. I did have it running on Vista on my old system which is weird; Win 7 is basically Vista working properly (I think?) so you would have thought if it installed on Vista Win 7 would be fine. I think because Win 7 is still pre-release the drivers aren’t up to scratch for all DVD rom drives. Now I’ve played for an hour or two I’ll revise my over optimistic FPS. The 30-35 was in boot camp, in the 1st mission I’m down 19-22 area, still playable, just! I’ve lowered the screen res to get it back to 25-28 area. Initial impessions are, I'm not sure it was really worth all the hassle.
  7. I've posted a few messages about my problems installing and getting the above error message. Having spent many hours reading and applying the suggested solutions (thanks to all) none of which worked for me unfortunately. I have at last got the game up and running. Most people seem to think this is a DVD Rom drive or faulty disk issues, it may well be but not for reasonably new drives me thinks. I tried 3 (Sony, LG and Plextor) all new, but got the same error. I first ran the game on Vista with an Intel E6200 and was getting12 - 15 FPS at low settings (unplayable). I decided to upgrade and bought a used Asus p5Q pro board and used q6600 (£120 all in) and a new Hitachi sata drive (£60). On this I dual booted XP and Win 7 RC (binned Vista, win 7 is terrific). Any way I still get the same CRC error trying to install on Win 7 but when I installed to XP it worked first time. So it must be an issue with drive firmware between XP/Vista and Win 7. Hope this makes anyone else thinking of going out and buying a new drive to think twice as it might be nothing to do with the drive, just the built in drivers on Win 7. No criticism meant to those who suggested it as for some people that could be the solution. Game now runs at a very playable 30 - 35 FPS on high settings 1600x1200 AA off, shadows medium and I haven't OC'd yet. Hope this helps anyone having this frustrating problem.

    Arma 2 instalation

I've been trying to solve the same issue for about 10 days now. Not so sure about it being a DVD drive problem; I have now tried 3 different make drives all less than 6 months old. I've made ISP images with 4 different programs and tried installing from mounted images, still the same problem. What I don't get is why I was able to install on my old P.C with out a hitch, trouble was that machine could only manage about 10 FPS on low settings. Also tried clean installs of XP, Vista and Windows 7 on freshly formatted SATA drives. Can a DVD disk determinate in a matter of a few weeks; there are no marks or scratches. I'm going to send it back and hopefully get a replacement disk.

    Yes, even more CRC errors

Sorry I thought it was pretty clear. Yes it was working, running at 10 FPS on XP so I upgraded my rig now when I try to do a fresh install I get a fail message saying FILE COPY ERROR CRC DOES NOT MATCH.
  10. Datter, you are one funny guy, best laugh I've had since trying to play Arma 2. Nice one mate!
  11. Firstly I've searched through the threads and followed the suggestions I found, i.e. going out and buying a new DVD rom drive, same error. Resorted to nicking my wife’s DVD rom that doesn't work either. Three drives all less than 6 months old! Still gives me the same error. I know my disk is O.K because I ran it on my windows XP system. It ran so poorly I upgraded my CPU & MB and installed Win 7 on a brand new Sata drive. So far ARMA 2 has cost me over £300 and I can't even load it! Any suggestions (chuck it in the bin has already been suggested). All drivers, BIOS are latest. ASUS P5Q Pro Q6600 BFG 8800 GTS 2 GIG Crucial RAM

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

I've been a P.C gamer since Wolfenstein 3d and Doom so a long time. Usually buy 12 - 15 games every year so I reckon I'm experienced enough to make a valid judgement. Now I've never ran a top range rig, but always medium to high. My current rig plays everything I throw at it, not always maxed out but perfectly playable and looks good. The problem with Arma 2 as a lot of people have already said is unless you have an exceptional high end rig it's unplayable. Yes you can turn everything to low and get 20 FPS (still no where near playable) but the problem is that Arma 2 looks pants when set that low. Lets be honest the graphics are O.K but nothing exceptional (have you seen the foliage close up, yuk!) So I applaud the devs for their ambition if it gets fixed this could be a great game but as an out of the box release this is appalling. I went into my Game store a few days ago and the P.C games rack is now about 5% of display. Games released like this are the reason why. Q6600 8800 GTS 2 gig Ram HG28 1080p Monitor Vista 32 bit
