Yep, BIS have generally taken a large step forward with OA and BAF, the whole thing is so much more polished than what we had when Arma2 was first released. I think the voice acting on BAF is great too, a huge step up IMHO. I am also loving the campaign. Good on you BIS for raising your own bar and constantly improving what you do, that's why we all stick around!

Been playing this weekly over a LAN with some friends the past year or so. Have to say, it's great fun multiplayer, and the direct control feature which allows you to aim and shoot with any unit, combined with being able to zoom right down in amongst the action, makes it pretty absorbing. There's a lot of micromanagement in the game- if you want to utilise it, you can still win without it though if your positioning and tactics are strong enough. That's the great thing about men of war, its flexible enough to accomodate players with differing skill levels, but allows more advanced players to do more advanced things, if they so wish. The single player campaign is tough, if you have the patience though it is very rewarding, and again, good fun. My main criticism would be as has been mentioned, the voice acting. Its so bad to the point of being amusing. For me though it's not a major gripe as I simply don't listen to it.

Most media these days is designed for the Quick Fix, as SAS recon said, patience is in short supply these days, it's all about fast amusement and fast money. Arma is different. I spent years trying all sorts of games till I found this- clearly a piece of software built by passion- (if it was money they wanted they could have adapted it easily enough to make a CoD type game),it's what I'd been looking for all along. Now I have no interest in 'games'.

Have you ever had a dream about ArmA2? I did last night...
Flaxpants replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Not really, no. Mostly I dream about womens bottoms. Having said that I did have one dream once where I was on patrol in a northern Chernarussian village when I came across this small farmhouse. As the door was open I thought I'd take a look inside, and would you believe it, there was this beautiful girl spreadeagled across... Ach, sorry. -
Stop going in the damn water !!!
Flaxpants replied to gareththomasnz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Yes, I was playing a mission the other day and decided to flank the target by going around it along the beach. Shortly afterwards whilst nearing the target I realised that two of my AI team had decided to stay behind and squat down in 2 feet of water and refused to obey orders. So I shot them for insubordination. Perhaps if somebody came up with an 'ice cream eating' script this would have some humour value. -
Its so true to life this game- if you wait around for a woman in this world you'll likely end up in trouble.

Mandobles Mando Missile addon has a rearming system which allows you to choose different weapon configurations and loadouts, may be what you're looking for.

Comedian Robin Williams plays A1/A2???
Flaxpants replied to manzilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Robin enjoys spending his weekends trying to get the artillery module to work -
Charlie Team, I was in your shoes about 6 months ago, I know absolutely nothing about programming/code etc.. and like you found the editor quite daunting. However, after spending a bit of time reading on these forums and consulting guides such as those Jezaa recommends, I can honeslty say that now I feel as though I am getting to grips with it. Once you get the basic principles into your head it is like a light coming on, and as was mentioned, each new piece of knowledge you pick up will lead you to other breakthroughs. Before you know it you're setting stuff up in the editor that would of been impossible a few short weeks previous. There's no question, you will need to do some studying, but I can guarantee you that the rewards will come much sooner than you may now believe. If you need some pointers from a fellow noob feel free to pm me.

Wow that's impressive ChiefRedCloud! I'm 44 and you make me feel like one of the youngsters on here. Makes me wonder what Arma will be like when I'm your age.....mmm.

Good downloadable mission for a new player?
Flaxpants replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
For a general all-round mod then it has to be ACE2. I guess it's not for everyone but for sure the majority go for that. Then pick and choose what you like from the others as far as additional units, vehicles and so on are concerned. The link in erict15's last thread is a great resource, it's like walking into a big toyshop where all the stuff is free! -
Congratulations to all award winners, nice one. And many thanks to all those modders/ video makers who didn't win- it's all great stuff and gives a lot of pleasure to thousands of people, including me.

Is BI ever going to do anything about the voices?
Flaxpants replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There surely has to be enough people on these forums alone to cover most languages, surely it can't be too difficult to find decent voice actors?. With many games it seems the voice acting is the last thing they addressed, like an afterthought -'Ooh better do something about the voices now we've got the rest of it working- go and get the cleaner, he speaks English'. -
Good downloadable mission for a new player?
Flaxpants replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Best thing to do is spend a few hours with the editor and do plenty of reading on these and other forums and you'll be able to make exactly the kind of mission you're after in 30minutes, or download a handful of missions and try them out, you'll soon pick it up. Everyone has their game configured differently, uses different mods, some use missions, some don't, so you're unlikely to get a definitave answer to your question as it depends on your tastes. -
Is BI ever going to do anything about the voices?
Flaxpants replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There's a few rumours knocking around that BI are doing a rework of the sounds on the new expansion. I know what you mean though, ACE disables them by default which is my solution for now. -
Question about performance in demo vs full version
Flaxpants replied to m1a2isdaboss's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
1.05 is a vast improvement over the demo version. Chalk & Cheese. -
Hi, itching to try this out but not having much luck. I am getting an error message pointing to the ace_sys_ravlifter, saying it has been deleted and I cannot play this mission. I have ACE2 and Mando all up to date. Anyone else had this? Cheers

In my opinion Arma 2 is not more popular because it doesn't offer the 'quick fix', like most mainstream western media, be it games or otherwise. It requires the application of 'patience' and 'intelligence', without which it is pointless, unlike other modern games where you jump in, get your fix, and get out again. It's a bit like the difference between buying a production sports car and buying a hand made car like a TVR for example. Everyone knows the TVR is far more likely to break down than the production car, but people invest in it because it is a labour of love, and they enjoy spending hours in the garage tweaking their beloved machine, it's all part of the experience and charm. The day Arma2 becomes super-popular is the day the passion will go out of it. Thats what makes this game a great amongst others, the passion of the people that make it, the passion of the people that play it and the passion of the community as a whole to have one united goal- to improve the Arma experience for themselves and others. I was thinking just this morning how refreshing it is to see that, and be a small part of it, because in modern life it's a very rare commodity.

You sure you have selected your troops before giving them orders?
-
I see this thread has been quiet for nearly a year now. I know I'm years behind the times, but I've just started playing this on a lan with a few friends (all new to Arma) and have a very basic gameplay question if there's anyone out there. How and where can we get hold of these 'Flare' packs (Flare red, Flare White etc..) for healing/ repair etc..? Can't seem to find them anywhere....

M4A1 M203 ACOG for me. Good all round piece of kit. Great at parties!

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta *2*!
Flaxpants replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hi all, sorry if this has come up in this thread already, unfortunately I haven't got the time to read all 120+ pages and a search revealed nowt. Installed yesterday onto a fresh install of the whole game plus 1.05. Everything is working a treat, apart from the chat between squad members which I am not hearing anymore, ie, can't hear the orders I give or radio requests etc... Anybody else have this issue? Apart from that minor problem, this mod is exactly whay I expected- Awesome. Thankyou ACE team! -
How do you make the color so virbant like in this screenshot?
Flaxpants replied to wasserkool's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It's not common knowledge, but most if not all monitors these days are setup by default using the sRGB IEC 1966 colour profile. This profile is designed for web viewing and well suited to corporate computer displays, it is also compatible with all consumer digital camera colour profiles. However, sRGB (the 's' stands for standardized) is the smallest colour space available, in other words its colour pallette is the most limiting. Using a color profile such as Adobe RGB gives you a much wider range of colours and more colour depth, programmes such as Photoshop allow you to choose the colour space that you wish to use within it, but you can also change the colour profile of your monitor via properties-settings-advanced-colour management. I use Adobe RGB pretty much all the time and I can get much richer colours than sRGB could ever get. It makes a big difference. -
Hi. I've recently started getting an error message when starting up Arma 2: No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgGlasses.gasmask_helmet'. Also it seems whichever character I choose in the editor, and in some missions, they are always wearing a gasmask, no doubt connected somehow. Tried running the game with no mods at all and still get the same message. This started happening before 1.05 and I am sure it is mod related but don't understand why I should still get it when running no mods. Is it a config file problem?, and are mods capable of altering the core Arma2 config files? Anybody have any ideas?
