[AAS]Battle for Chernogorsk - 15vs15
BCA Cat Toaster replied to Flightster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Yep, completely understand that. You´ll get close to an heart attack playing with 50 players on such small maps. ;-) However, all missions and templates will be updated to support 64 players for AAS-Tournament use by Armed Global Warfare. -
[AAS]Battle for Chernogorsk - 15vs15
BCA Cat Toaster replied to Flightster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Looks interesting and thank you very much Flightster! We´ll have a look at it. Just for your information: You don´t really need to edit/reduce the amount of maximum players within the mission. For example we host all of the standard 50 Player-Maps but our server is limited to 32 players anyway via server.cfg. So if someone wants to host that mission with 50 players, he is still able to do it. Also keep in mind, if you run a server and have 50 players on it with another mission now switching to this one, 20 players will have to stay in the lobby and leave the server because of that limitation. Besides that we need a 50 player-Version to put your mission into the whole AAS-Mission-Pack in case you like that idea. Missions which are part of the Complete-Pack are always kept up-to-date with the latest Scripts by every new release and can still be edited to individual needs. Of course you´re allowed to do everything you like, just wanted to let you now. -

Question about server bandwidth
BCA Cat Toaster replied to l mandrake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I´ve 2Mbit Upstream (32 down) and i´m hosting a secondary dedicated Server with that at home for 20 players. It worked quite well yesterday with 18 players already on it. I´ve to add that this server runs in an virtualized environment also (VMware ESXi 4.0 / Server 2003 x64 Standard) with two vCPUs E6600 and 2GB RAM available to this VM. However, that 2MBit of course is still a bottleneck, because a joining player has to download the mission first and that can easily cause lag for those actually playing, not to mention what happens during a map-change in a regular server-evironment. It´ll take ages for example until a 1MB-Mission is delivered to 20 clients at the same time with just 2Mbit or less. I would recommend to have at least 10Mbit-Upstream for hosting up to 64 players. Simply for playing 4-5Mbit are already sufficient, but uploading missions shouldn´t affect gameplay, that´s why some headroom is always good to have. The network-card isn´t an issue at all. On our primary server with 100Mbit Up/Down we are facing the Problem that CPU-Power is a even worse problem as it seems you really need a QuadCore-CPU for hosting more than 32 players, our E4500 Dual Core is working on his limits with 32 players, not even able to host 40. -
VF FPS Saver (VFFPSS)
BCA Cat Toaster replied to VictorFarbau's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I like the idea of this addon very much. As it seems to auto-adjust settings which can also be set manually by every player it would be great for MP! Therefore it would be nice to have a signed version of this addon or do i miss a point why this isn´t already available? -
AAS_Missions / Infantry only / Small Urban Map. Feedbacks?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to rome's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Showing Friendly Tags or not is a serverside option. That can be deactivated like 3rd-Person-View or Crosshair, that´s up to the host now. Removing the Information how many people are in each zone might be an option for the "Hardcore Ruleset" but it´s an AAS-Basic and i don´t think it will be disappear in default settings. For such feature-requests and further discussions about CoolBox-AAS i recommend using our space over at dev-heaven -> http://dev-heaven.net/projects/activity/coolbox-aas -
AAS_Missions / Infantry only / Small Urban Map. Feedbacks?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to rome's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
That´s the point sbsmac! Of course there´s plenty of room for discussion in all directions how to reach that, but that´s why we are all here. @RoME Well, the cool thing is, that you don´t have to handle any scripts at all if you use the Templates. The attempt CoolBox made in his AAS-Implementation is to split the creative part of designing a mission from the "AAS-Engine-Part" editing Scripts. I like that very much, because i´ve little knowlegde about scripting but i´m still able to provide missions for the project. So it´s no problem to build a mission based on a r224 Template, we just need the three files i mentioned before and can bring it up to every version desired like r254 within seconds. The implementation of the Script-Part is very much up Coolbox only, to get a decent standard in AAS. There is also a new "RuleSet-System" so that hosts can define different settings for their own to remain flexible. That said Coolbox is of course inspired by the work of sbsmac, kegetys, kju and many more and of course from all the feedback from the community. -
AAS_Missions / Infantry only / Small Urban Map. Feedbacks?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to rome's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Sorry, i don´t really know how i could me more precise but i keep trying. It´s not easy for me to find the right for words, my english isn´t the best. There is nothing wrong with what you did RoME, i really like smaller maps! And there´s nothing wrong with the Scripts of SBSMAC, i´ve no knowledge of scripty, i´m not judging. I just wanted say that there is no need to use different scripts than those supplied with the AAS-Pack if you´re only interested in making smaller missions based on the current AAS-System. For example if you take the "AAS50_Chernarus.Template.pbo" (or those ZZZ-ones) and relocate the stuff in there, add new things and save it under a new name, we could easily integrate that in the "CoolBox-AAS-Pack". We just need "mission.sqm, mapname.hpp and the initSAAS.sqf" from a creation. All the scripts will be updated automatically with each new release of the pack and every host downloading this pack has your maps based on the latest AAS-Scripts. Just wanted to tell that this option exits for those who are interested in using it. It´s just an option. I´m sorry for any Inconvenience that may has caused. Bye Toaster -
AAS_Missions / Infantry only / Small Urban Map. Feedbacks?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to rome's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Perhaps some of your scripts are already part of CB-AAS anyway, i don´t know. ;-) I know what you´re doing is great and of course i like small infantry-based maps too, like RoME. The main thing for me really is, if it´s just about map-sizes in AAS and you want to keep everything else it´s the easiest way to use the provided templates, even for completely unexperienced people like me with no knowledge of scripting, all you have to do is relocating and adding stuff with the editor, save and compile and provide it to us. Just focus on the creative part. And of course the advantage of keeping those maps (script-wise) always up-to-date by CB as a part of the mission-pack. All of the missions in the pack were made this way and there all quite different made by six different designers. I think many people just don´t know that it can be that simple. And if someone wants a great new feature, maybe from your Scripts Mac, it would be nice to let us know, perhaps we want them for all those template-users like us also. ;-) Just wanted to say that CB-AAS is no "OneWay", we are open for any feedback and that there is an easy way to add your own AAS-Missions to the current system if you like to. Of course everyone is free to do whatever he likes. I´m just trying to canalize things a bit. BTW: There are already smaller maps (aas50S_*) in the pack (maybe some are not small enough, i would agree but also many hosts just don´t choose to host them) and there are more to come in the next release and of course if would be nice to have those just made by RoME also in it. -
AAS_Missions / Infantry only / Small Urban Map. Feedbacks?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to rome's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Hi All! The CoolBox-AAS-Packagae delivers seven Templates to build your own Missions from which is very easy. I built small missions from it like "Battle for Krasnostav" for example. So people all have the same HUD and at least the same fundamentals in AAS, so there is no need to reinvent AAS from ground. Of course missions based on these Templates can be also part of the next release and will always be updated automatically with the latest features and implementations for AAS by Coolbox. I don´t want to be rude or something, please don´t get me wrong. Just wanted to say that in case you didn´t know. The templates are part of the AAS-Mission-Pack (AAS50T_)-> http://www.sbs.org.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Download_Map_Pack . You only have to rearrange the perimeters and put additional stuff on in it as you like. I would recommend to put all skills together in the one project we already have instead if splitting up the small community with the basic decision wheter implementation they like more, only for having smaller maps. Bye Toaster -

What you call a problem is very Fundamental - in my eyes - for the AAS-Game-Mechanics. Maybe i´m ignorant as kju says because i´m playing and loving it that way for five years now, but me and ten of my friend´s wouldn´t have bought ArmA2 without the AAS-Mode we currently have and it´s still a way to go until it´s really done to finally judge it. So i never said im totally neutral ;-). Seriously: We are discussing all these gameplay-elements and we have already an open ticket regarding this topic also. So your feedback is definitely not ignored. Coolbox is on vacation now and meanwhile i´m focussing on the new "Player-Kit-System" he made. Nobody ever wondered why each faction has full access to each others weaponry and what picking a class like "Engineer" is good for if you can also pick a russian "Sniper" and give him a Western AT-4 and other "SuperSoldier-Loadouts"? That´s where the "Player-Kits-System" comes in. I made an attempt for a possible Implementation which is currently undergoing testing on our server. In general "Custom-Loadouts" are disabled now in this experiment. All you find in the ammo-box is ammo. Using the Scrollwheel you get access to 21 "Player-Kits" for each faction (5xEngineer/4xGunner/4xEngineer/3xMedic/3xRecon/2xSniper) with secondary weapons and with many russian weapons added currently missing in AAS. Really could use some Feedback about that in general. Nothing else to do than joining the server, go to an Amory and choose some Kits, maybe switching teams and doing the same again to look for balance would be great. I also made screenshots from those loadouts: Player-Kits Overview "West-Blue" Player-Kits Overview "East-Red" -

BCA Cat Toaster replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Thanks for your Feedback! I don´t really see a lack of AAS-Servers, but a lack of AAS-players. There are about five empty AAS-Servers all the time so that really doesn´t seem to be a problem at the moment. Just filter for "aas" in the Hostname. The Squad-System is still under construction, it´s just a first step in r224. Concerning smaller maps there are more to come. In r224 there are already a few infantry based small Maps like Battle for Krasnostav, Into the Dark and Cheeseburger Hill (smallest of the small ones) and we´ll have at least three more small ones upcoming with the next release. Those can be fun with 8-10 players already (if they know what to do) without the need of using vehicles to reach the targets. @Aelin What´s the problem with the current spawn-system? -

Topolka Dam and Beyond
BCA Cat Toaster replied to Clayman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Strange enough it seems to work in MP ;-). I put the key on our server and joined with the Addon using my AAS-Mission Total Annihilation which has a spawn-point near the dam. The following message appears: "Cannot load texture map_eu\icon\icon.paa." After clicking OK it seems to work anyway but it´s a bit irritating. Looks and sounds awesome by the way! The reason why i said "strange" is, that other players without that Addon of course don´t see it and don´t have that river. They can just pass the area while i have to move my tank or whatever around the river-area now ;-). That´s of course not your problem, I´m just wondering that something like this is possible at all, but it is! Great job anyway. Any chance to get rid of that error-message? -
Multiplayer "HOLD" maps are where the fun is at!!!
BCA Cat Toaster replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
But that´s what AAS is all about! If you outnumber your enemy in his current perimeter, he can´t spawn anymore in the "hot zone". The key is to reach the enemies perimeter with you attack-squad without being seen and enter it in the right moment of weak defense. That can´t be reached by running the direct "lemming-routes" one after another without teamplay, agreed. Of course, if both teams are really on par, it´s not easy to win but isn´t that the fact in all kind of games? -

BCA Cat Toaster replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
hmm. Spawnkilling isn´t really an issue in AAS anymore with the current release Beta 08/ Maps V.04 because there is working spawn-protection now. Of course it can still happen but you have more time to react now as long as you´re invulnerable after spawning instead of getting killed still having a black screen as it was before. Teamkilling has never been a big issue on our server, however a teamkill-related autokick as we had in JO would be fine. Maybe that´s something for the Wishlist here. Talking about Class-Restrictions isn´t easy but AAS for ArmA2 is still Beta, so there is more to come... -
Problems using addons on dedi server
BCA Cat Toaster replied to wobbly's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Did you try the linked version above, that really works and contains the correct key. The only file you need to put on the server in this case is the "VopSound.bikey". Put it in the Arma2\Keys\ directory of your server. Same for Landtex. -

BCA Cat Toaster replied to wobbly's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Strange, i just did the same for the first time ever and it worked. Can you post a screen or tell what Arma exactly says which files are not OK? Perhaps it just says there is something wrong with the vopsound and not with landtex, i just read about some confusion about the right keyfile for the VOPsound. Be sure you get the latest 2.1 Repack-Version of VOPSound-Mod fixing this issue -> http://armed-assault.de/downloads/vopsound-21.html That one works for me. -
