Island Panthera for ArmA 2
BCA Cat Toaster replied to icebreakr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hey IceBreakr, any news on your Panthera-Update? We are playing Panthera once a week on Thursday on our BCA-Gaming Nights and of course I am very excited to review your latest work. ;-) By the way there will be minimum of 19 AAS-Missions so far (not counting Templates) for Panthera with the upcoming final release of the AAS-Package (most require the Little-Bird-Addons as well!). The 3rd Campaign of the AAS-Based AGW-Tournament with up to 100 players is also taking place on Panthera with these missions. Just in case someone wants to see this awesome masterpiece of a terrain in Multiplayer-Environments. cu! -
Or visit Armed Global Warfare. They are playing AAS (Advance and Secure) with up to 100 Players on Panthera in the upcoming Campaign 3.

Well, I played JO for some years and this project is the only reason most BCA-Members inlcuding myself bought ArmA2 at all. However it turned out that ArmA2 is a bit too much hardcore for some players, that´s why I don´t know if it works with ACE2 or not. Should be no that big deal to make it working, however I´ve no time and interest to do that but maybe someone else. Personally I just love AAS and the ArmA2-Engine obviously is an awesome mighty toolbox that offers the ability and scale to make AAS happen again. In AAS you can pick a predefined Gear-Setup (ArmA2-Slots mean nothing) from an armory when in the game and go with that instantly. No two minutes gear-setup manually if you don´t want it. Revives are instant. It has Spawn-Protection, Spawn-Queues, Spawn-Delay. More than 70 missions of all scales and terrains. No Ingame-Ranks that prevent players using the hardware on the missions. Different Rulesets to choose from. Might sound a bit arcade but what finally matters is Teamplay, Communication, Logistics and Medics. Oh, and don´t forget Fun! Should still offer more depth than Betafield and CoD ever will. I´ll try, but everyone is free to contribute as well! :-) -

Thanks Guys! Congratulations to the AAS-Team please, BCA is just a small part of that. :-) AAS will feature "largely mindless AI" as well (it´s capable of playing AAS completely on its own already!), you can check that out on the servers in my sig. AAS-Coop is possible but originally it was meant for the time you´re waiting for more real players to join! ;-) -
RCon server administration coming to ArmA 2!

That Tool is already great but with that GUI it would be just awesome! Great Job! -
aas=Advance and Secure (The Game-Mode, shows up as "Hold" in the Server-Browser) 100=Current maximum amount of Players on this Map L=Large (there is also M=Medium/S=Small/T=Template); Mainly specifies the distances between the objectives. Small Maps offer less traveling, more fighting and of course need less players. This mission uses the new SAAS-System with neutral objectives from the beginning, called a "1-2N-1 Setup". That means that a team has to capture and hold both objectives Bravo and Charlie before it can move on. Due to its name and its larger distances this is mainly a helicopter mission. Limited A-10/SU-25 support is also available. I suggest having minimum 26+ players for this map. [aas50S] Battle for Krasnostav 1.6
BCA Cat Toaster replied to BCA Cat Toaster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
That´s the plan LoneStar1, 100% agreed. We want the AI also back but in a much better shape than in the earlier releases. According to CoolBox this is going to take about 15 hours of coding and therefore it won´t happen soon. :-( Perhaps we should go for a "quick and dirty" implementation meanwhile, what do you think? Another point: We tested yesterday one of the latest AAS-Alpha-Releases for four hours with 50 players on AGW without any problems, so I suggest everyone who´s interested should give it a go. Especially AAS-Mission-Designers should use the latest Templates therein. Click the following Link for Download and to read about the latest changes Download Official AAS Complete Pack Alpha r419 -

This was my first attempt making an AAS-Mission ever based on the AAS-Templates and -Scripts made by CoolBox-SBS-. It´s a small and Infantry-Based scenario in an urban environment. This mission is part of the official AAS-Mission-Pack by CoolBox-SBS featuring always all the latest improvements and Bugfixes in AAS-Game-Mode itself. The current Map-Pack features version 1.5 of this mission, 1.6 will be part of the next Mission-Pack-Release and is currently only available for testing and preview on our server. I slightly relocated the objectives B and E for more cover. Well, why you don´t ask people like me who already did that procedure with 215Kb/sec and ask for a passworded, time-limited FTP server2server-transfer of the just changed data and it´s done in a few minutes? BTW, everyone can set up a server technically, all you need is the proper license that allows it and the files. That´s why u can run a ArmA2-server without the need of any installation or DVD right from the beginning. All you need for running a server is to upload a properly installed game-version and the according server executable, you don´t even need a key for that and you´re not bypassing any kind of copy protection. Why uploading from your PC (what BI actually suggests in a provided readme) should be more illegal than a controlled server2server transfer between ArmA2-Server-Hosts? All that finally matters for BI is, that things are properly licensed and the needed files are NOT available for free download to the public. And 7-Zipping the files before uploading reduces the amount of data that needs to be transferred significantly. I was able to squeeze out 2GB+ with normal compression, no idea what Ultra can do.

thx kju :-). "Big" from Armaholic just told me that the whole package with all Rulesets and Templates can get as small as 400kb (from 16MB now) by using the 7-Zip Ultra-Settings. So he did that already and so will I. So thank you very much Big for telling and providing News and a Mirror for that smaller package. You can get it here -> http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7488 I´ll update our DL-Version to that smaller package soon. Please note also, that the r304-Package shows up internally Ingame as r303, we just fixed a minor bug in the Hint-System discovered by kju and missed that in the version-count. -
aas=Advance and Secure (The Game-Mode, shows up as "Hold" in the Server-Browser) 50=Current maximum amount of Players on this Map S=Small (there is also M=Medium/L=Large/T=Template); Mainly specifies the distances between the objectives. Small Maps offer less traveling, more fighting and of course need less players. This new - not yet released - mission features the new SAAS-System with neutral objectives from the beginning, called a "1-2-N-2-1 Setup". That means that the team that gains control over D, has the free choice of attacking TWO Enemy-Objectives next at the same time or one after another. The enemy can only attack D now, but has also to defend two of their Objectives now at the same time. It´s a pure infantry-based map in the woods, offering only some Bikes at X and one not respawning Helicopter. So distances are quite short with lots of natural cover, but due to its Objective-Setup i recommend at least having 12 players total to have some fun. The mission is currently undergoing playtests on our server and will be part of the upcoming next release of the "ArmA2-AAS-Beta09" by CoolBox-SBS-, featuring the latest SAAS-System from the Beta08 and introducing a new Player-Kit-System. Arma2 and Windows 7 Multiplayer problems can anyone help?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to mithandra's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
It´s not the problem of a developer to make their products endlessly compatible with future operating systems. It´s a pain in the ass to develop for three available Microsoft Operating Systems at a time that are currently used, named XP, Vista and Seven, not to mention all the 64-Bit counterparts. Not to mention Driver-Issues, Overclocking-Issues and all these great "MessUp-Utilities" called "TuneThis, CleanThat". Do people still wonder why developing for consoles is so much more attractive? Do you know what UBISoft says about their Blockbuster Far Cry2 if you ask for support on 64-Bit OS in general? "Not supported!" Do you know what UBISoft says about their Blockbuster Far Cry2 if you ask for support for Windows 7 in general? "Not supported!" Just one example how major labels act like, but UBISoft never said that this product works under 64-OS and 7. People who try it, do it on their own risk. BI actually fixes problems that occur on Vista and Seven with their latest patch. But no one can test all possible combinations of hard- and software. BTW: I´ve not discovered a single problem running ArmA2 under Win7x64 at all, not with 1.04 and not with 1.05 so far. So it seems you have to look at driver and router-issues and background programs YOU installed also. Update all Drivers, Update your OS, Update you Router-Firmware, Update your Motherboard-BIOS and terminate all running background programs that might conflict and Undo any "Tuning-Changes" you made to your OS like disabled pagefile, switch it all back to default. Disabling IPv6 might also help. Yeah, that´s a lot of work, but if one who plays on a PC don´t want to do it, he should go for a PS3, XBox or whatever instead of blaming the developers and people that try to help you out with that little peace of information you provided. Does gameplay actually feel like having 500-2500ms pings? Did you ping other websites from you PC or tried another game? Do they act the same or different? -

Small Maps offer less traveling, more fighting and of course need less players. This mission uses the new SAAS-System with one neutral objective from the beginning, called a "1-1-N-1-1 Setup". So its pretty much classic and linear but without the possibility of ending in a draw. As the name of the mission says the center objective is on top of Green Hill. There is just one entrance to the flag area until you use at least one pipe-bomb. There´s also NO Armory available on Charlie. King of the Hill offers only light vehicles like Jeeps and a transport-helo on each side so its focus lies on pure Infantry downhill/uphill Combat. It can be fun with 10 and more players already. ARMA 2 v.1.05 Standalone window server patch?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to trancemode's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
The server needs ALL the game files of an fully installed game, no matter if gets uploaded or installed like that one your PC. The Server Exe is needed in ADDITION to it, but for windows its Part of Update 1.05 already. The Linux dedicated server also requires the files from a fully installed game and of course under linux you have no other choice than uploading the (changed) data. 7-zip is just a compression tool, to reduce the amount of (changed) data that needs to be uploaded. There is no tiny littly 100MB Package just for Hosting, you always need the full data of an installed retail game copy. That´s why I said STEAM is the most comfortable way for Windows-Admins because the game gets downloaded, installed and updated in an easy way. If you don´t have that and also can´t install from DVD remotely, uploading the already installed game from your PC to the server is also a valid way. Editing the Registry like described afterwards might help for future updates to make the Updater work directly on the server like on your PC. If that does not work, uploading changed files by the latest update from your PC to the Server is also working. Compressing the files before helps to reduce the amound data that needs to be updated. -
ARMA 2 v.1.05 Standalone window server patch?
BCA Cat Toaster replied to trancemode's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Plenty of options: 1. Edit the Registry of your Server to get the Updater working as described here -> http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1522557&postcount=3 2. 7-Zip the date before uploading saves 2-3GB. 3. Contacting another server-admin that already updated his installation for server2server transfer within minutes. 4. Running a Steam version of ArmA2 on the Server might be also an idea -

patching a dedicated server
BCA Cat Toaster replied to dust31's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah, if you have no direct installation/Steam-Version running on your server, uploading changed data is the only way. That´s the way BI suggests it to do also in several readme´s. There is no other way either to do it on Linux servers. So uploading all changed data last night is what I did to get it running. You can squeeze out 2-3GB out of those 7GB changed files using 7-zip before uploading them. It took still 6-7 hours with my just 2Mbit Upstream but it works. Best way to handle it, would be to contact another server admin who already updatet his server and request a Server->Server transfer. That´s done in a few minutes. -
Dragon Age is really a great game this year, but it´s not the best even from BioWare. Neverwinter Nights (1) was even bigger, also with Modding-Tools AND it was (and still is) playable in Coop-Mode. I enjoyed it so much to play the whole story with one of my best friends It would be cool to have that back in Dragon Age. Another awesome SP-RPG is "The Witcher" which also is very dark, story-driven with incredibly cool moves and it offers a lot more sex, not only Blood. :-)

All PvP server admins please update this list!
BCA Cat Toaster replied to Hans Ludwig's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
We currently only have small maps running on two pure AAS-Servers which would work for 8 or 10 ten players+. All needed information can be looked up via the links in my sig. For our "AAS#2 Panthera-Server" the Panthera-Addon is needed and the "Little-Bird-Addon" both available in our Downloads-Section. Currently we allow all kinds of client-side Addons as it seems not possible that all Host activate verify signatures on there Servers. -
