  1. Thanks Franze

Now say all me and my buddies are on the same team. Then it does not matter about them both having the same settings correct?

    Another words

If all of use were on the Marines and the enemy is SLA all are AI. Will I need to make both have the same settings?

  2. Thanks Phobia... I didn't have a webcam anyway, so I bought THIS one from Amazon - £15..

It's a nightvision cam with IR illumination, so since its happily throwing invisible light at you anyway, it seemed more convenient to just bounce it back at the camera rather than fuss with additional light sources attached to your head (plus the batteries, cables, etc)...

I'd just bought the new sony lightweight headset so I was looking to make the lightest possible setup...

Works a treat - you literally DO forget it's there its so light...

    B

That is a really neat idea there. I like that it is all invisible light. Nothing shinning near the web cam in your face. Cool as hell setup.

  3. It's perfectly clear from even a cursory glance around the forums that there are indeed many, many far more pressing issues with Arma2 currently, than the inclusion of another API for control devices...

It's also clear that theres considerable consumer-level support for such an inclusion...

There's been a flurry of PM's, discussions and chat over the last few days behind-the-scenes on this forum, the Freetrack Forum and elsewhere... One result is The Poll you may notice Placebo himself started yesterday.. another is the fact that this thread hasn't been closed...

Following some recent discussion with Suma, the overworked Dev who'd probably be the one having to implement Freetracks SDK, Microsoft SimConnect, or whatever API is finally decided on, the entire issue is on hold, pending...

    a) As requested - by Suma - , a demonstration of the level of support for implementing another API...

    b) All other far more important Arma2 patching being completed...

So - demonstrating your support for Freetrack via discussion or poll or petition will NOT delay the next patch - rest assured... things ARE merely in the discussion/assessment stage at the moment...

If anyone is interested, there's been considerable discussion - with contributions by Placebo amongst others - over on the Freetrack Forums - see link above...

If anyone would like to have a go with headtracking in Arma1 (and Arma 2 - with certain current limitations), theres a post of mine HERE on the Armaholic Forums with full details (I'll add in the pic from that below)... £15-£25 will see you smoothly head tracking in either game...

(although if you have a webcam, or even a Wii-mote - and you can handle a little DIY - you could be headtracking - right now - for nothing... thats right - nothing.....)

If you're not a DIY guy my post will explain how you can just buy all the necessary stuff and use it all straight out of the box without any DIY or modifications whatsoever...

    (Passive IR nanoclip - DIY - cost=nothing)

    [iM]http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b272/Bushlurker/trackclip.jpg[/img]

No LED's, no batteries, no wires, no fuss...

    B

Nice build Bush. I am running a 3 point clip(LED's) right now, powered with batteries. I would not attempt a reflective version ;)

  4. I don't think you have to be an industrial systems developer to understand where Naturalpont is coming from. It's just common sense. I appreciate what Naturalpoint has accomplished.

The 'possible legal issues' FUD has made it into the thread, awesome! Thread complete! Close now!

I think $150 for a TrackIR is insane. You are right it's not worth THAT much to me. They can keep it, respectfully speaking of course.

Using face recognition for head tracking, if it works, will render this confrontation trivial. If you can use face recognition for TrackIR like functionality Sony or MS will figure it out. Then the FPS crowds will buy the peripheral in bulk and more games will support it. And everyone gets what they want, both FreeTrack and TrackIR users, and that is more head tracking in more games.

But we can keep arguing if you want to pass the time until then :).

Opps misread what was wrote. My bad :)

    Back on topic.

I do hold Free Track developers at fault. They should have got with BI during the creation of Arma 2 to make sure support would of been implemented. But we the fans of both BI and Free Track can't make that happen. So we are relying on BI to hopefully help us out. We do make up a nice bit of a fan base. Free Track has around 2,500 members. So that is roughly around 125,000$ if every user bought Arma 2. Granted that is most likely not going to happen but it goes to show you we do make up a nice bit of dough.

---------- Post added at 05:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:48 PM ----------

I didn't really read this thread since it is clearly a heated debate. Let me just say that my Trackir 5 is awesome and I'm happy to pay the money for it. For those of you who disagree and feel that freetrack should be in ArmA2 see this thread where they announce that freetrack is now in ArmA2.

This thread has remained pretty darn civil. I am surprised and happy. I like being able to communicate with others and it not go down a unneeded path. That link is pretty example of what I was refering to on how people are just trying to make their equipment work. They are not necessarily going about it the right way. But they are not also doing anything terribly wrong if everything they paid for. Because they are not "stealing" anything.

  5. Read the link above your post, and you'll see why it did, and also why it does not now.

I know the reason it did and does not now. But what I am saying is that BI has a nice size fan base that uses Free Track so thus implementing support for it would benefit their fans as well as their company because those people will further support them because of it.

  6. fair enough JW Custom, like I said I don't use any headtracking myself yet but may want to give it a go in the future, but certainly not if I have to buy it to try it.

Just seems wierd that people are using freetrack but have to tamper with their legit game to do so.

I think that is my biggest beef. If I want to use my Free Track. I have to tamper with my legit copy of Arma 2 to get it to work. Granted I have not bought Arma2 because of this problem and won't until it is fixed.

But my thing is people that are trying to get their Free Track to work are being looked at as "Bad" or on the same level as piracy because they are trying to get their head tracking to work.

If I PAID for the game. I PAID for my Head Tracking unit (Cost to build) and then the game does not work for it. But there is a option out there to get it to work. I find NOTHING wrong with it. The point is these people should be made to feel bad because they are trying to get their equipment to work.

The correct route is just to get it supported and these kind of posts go away.

  7. Hey guys got a question for you all. I got some buddies that are getting Arma Gold and we are going to do some Co-op. My question is, how do I host a multiplayer game and have the "Profile edits" such as Enemy AI accuracy and lack of cross hairs? Also to have mods setup, do I have to make a @Server folder? It won't be a dedicated server. I will just be hosting the game as i play with them.

I am unsure how this side of it works. Any help would be appreciated.

  8. The question is only of resources allocation according to the devs.

Time spent on freetrack support will not be spent on other possibly more important and urgent issues. It's just as simple as that. At the moment, they feel they have more important things to fix, and I agree.

When all things work as they should, I'll sign the freetrack petition/poll...

I agree on that point. I think the game should work and there are things more pressing I am sure. But while some of you enjoy the game and are waiting on those fixes. Some of us won't play the game unless we can use head tracking. I know I want to experience the game to its full potential.

I think support of Free Track would not take that long to implement. I could be wrong but just judging how some users are making it work with Arma2 and they are not developers.

Plus the time thing I don't understand. A developer is not made up on 2 or 3 people. You have a team of MANY MANY people. So assigning 1 person to this task would not be that detrimental to the progress made on other aspects of the the game.

But that is just my opinion.

  9. Hey guys

Well I am in the process of installing some mods or attempting I should say lol.

I did the profile adjustments for the enemy AI and lack of cross hairs and that stuff.

But I am slightly confused about the folder stuff. Let me know which option is the correct way of arranging my files.

    Options #1

    /programfiles/arma/addons/@general/mods in here

    /programfiles/arma/addons/@replacements/mods in here

    Option #2

    /Programfiles/arma/@general/addons/mods here

    /programfiles/arma/@replacements/addons/mods here

    Options #3

    /programfiles/arma/@general/mods here

    /programfiles/arma/@replacements/mods here

    Option #4

Neither I am still wrong :)

Also you right click on your shortcut icon and change the target location with -mods@general;@replacements correct??

Thanks for the help ahead of time men.

  10. Taken from another Freetrack thread. Maybe this helps to cool down a little.

Thanks for that quote Myke. but I could be just reading it wrong. To me it sounds like a "blow off". Now like I said maybe I am reading it wrong. By a comment like that it comes off that it most likly won't get adjusted and we the FREE TRACK users will be screwed.

  11. So let me get this straight. You guys think it is perfectly acceptable for a company to FORCE its user base to go buy the Natural point product??

That the other 25% or what ever it shall be of Free track users are just left high and dry.

It is really easy to see that NP and BIS have a thing. BIS markets the use of NP products with its product and NP markets its product in the use of BIS products.

But to single out part of its fan base is really not smart business sense for BIS. maybe for NP it is good but for BIS it is not to bright.

  12. I love the internet, it makes heros and tough guys out of everyone:yay:

Oh and how can anyone respect you when you pull this bulls!t?

Get your punk ass outta here:D

What bull shit. Please explain. For being upset that a developer left out a key piece of code so we the free track community are forced to go the natural point route.

Forcing us to go buy a $150 unit if we want head tracking software. I don't see how this has anything to do with what you are talking about.

My point is very important for many members who use Free track. But you are just coming here to "get noticed". So come back with some "points" and then i will have a conversation with you.

  13. Wait how am I supposed to continue with free track dialog that you said i should of did instead of making a new topic. When he is closing all those topics.

Do you see my point. That is the reason for the obscenity. I don't want to be this way. My orignial post was writen in regard to how i LOVE BIS. but the way they are treating the Free track community is disrepectful and NO I won't give him respect for given ZERO answer.

---------- Post added at 11:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:23 PM ----------

New members can really get annoying. Please ban him placebo or another moderator.

I hope to NEVER encounter you online.

Dude you have zero clue what you are talking about. I been a member of ArmA and OF for a long time. Just because i don't frequent the forums does not mean anything.

I came here in regard to the lack of free track support. We the free track community are being treated as if we don't have a reason for being upset.

  14. well you have your answer already so stop asking.

btw i would edit the end of you post before you get perm banned

I asked ONCE!!! How many is to many???? Once OMG

Perm ban, why would that bother me. He has already shown me that he is not a respectful mod. I would not want to be apart of a developer that treats its fan base such as this.

  15. lolwot?

why dont ask us the question and maybe u might get an answer.

Placebo keeps closing the free track threads so we can;t have dialog about it. It was about a thread about the lack of free track support.

    see here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=79304

But none of the other threads gives a reason for WHY it was removed from ARMA 2.

So while he can be completely biased and close this threads along with the one posted here that shows a "respectful tone and addressing" To get a complete blow off and just close the thread is COWARD. I DO NOT respect someone with those actions.

  16. Neither did you answer my PM. Stop dancing around the topic. Give me a honest answer.

---------- Post added at 11:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 PM ----------

You can keep closing the Free track threads. But the bottom line is you all are to cowards to say "We have a deal with natural point and removed the feature from Arma 2 for this reason".

I think it is very chicken shit you are going to close all the free track threads when it is a HONEST concern with YOUR product.

But i got my answer. I WILL NOT BUY YOUR PRODUCT THEN!!!!!!!!

  17. Well where do I start.

Why would a company go out of its way to REMOVE the support for Free Track that was in there already with ArmA 1????

I am a faithful Free Track user. Who put his own money, time, and energy into making his free track device. Then the great Free Track software designers, gave us the gamers a good software to use so we can make a inexpensive unit and have head tracking in our games.

I have been a Arma supporter and was going to be heading home in 20 mins to buy ArmA 2. I will no longer be doing that. Some people will say "So what, leave!!" Well what you fail to see if that we the consumer gives these people (BIS) jobs. We buy their product which lines that companies pockets.

Now, I know for a fact Free Track has a rather large community in ArmA. When playing alot of online Co-ops. I talk to people about what Head tracking they use and a vast majority use Free Track.

What is even more concerning is I did a search on these forums and there has been a trend with Suma, and I think his name is Placebo CLOSING threads that are talking about Free Track. Why is this??? There is NOTHING illegal about Free Track. All you as a company are doing is excluding some of your potential buyers. I know at this moment you lost one already with me and judging by the Free Track boards you have lost some others.

I will continue to stand my ground and not buy ArmA 2. Not because I don't want it. Because I badly do. I LOVE the game, but I am going to be forced to stay with ArmA 1. I will stand my ground based on the simple fact it is wrong. It is TRYING to force your customer base to go out and support a company you are in cahoots with (Natural Point). It is the ol "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" routine.

Well I am sorry to say this about a company I always loved. But I am truly heart broken that BIS has taken this route against some of its community base. Where has the company gone that listens to its community. I want those guys back and responding to this.

    Truly Upset
