  1. Thanks Scott, Ive noticed a lot of places like that and AUTEC have a high turn over rate because that lifestyle is very hard on some folks. I don't plan on implementing any of the range items or functions on my rendition. Just more or less gunna be a terrain, I do want to add some cool sight seeing stuff and will probably add some under water items for fun. R/ Kludo
  2. Hello, Ive been slowly but surely plugging away on getting an authentic (within limits) AH-1W into Arma. Ive spent most of my time in the cockpit trying to get as much cockpit interaction as possible without crashing the game. Some things just aren't completely doable in ARMA 3, but there are some work arounds I have found and some things unfortunately just wont work as they do in real life. I think itll be another month or so until its ready and released. In the mean time I'm starting a little side project and learning how to do terrains. I'm trying to get atleast proficient in several skills before I deploy because I'm going to try to use my off time to build mods. The terrain will be a reproduction of AUTEC Andros Island. Ive been there dozen or so times. I'm going to model the large island where the base is, then model one or two of the adjacent islands. This will mainly probably be a helicopter/amphibious type map. I appreciate everyones help who gave me advice and info for the Whiskey cobra, I'm sure I will be back with more questions when it comes to the terrain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Undersea_Test_and_Evaluation_Center R/ Kludo
  3. Thank you for the replys gents, I'm still looking for an author/content owner willing to help out with or share their code. Not asking for free I'm willing to work out something/do some leg work. There are some AH-1Z mods out there that are unbinned and free to edit, I'm trying to start with an AH-1W that someone is willing to let me use (It is ultimately my plan to completely change everything except the "template" of the mod). I'm already operating under the assumption I may very well have to use one of the 1Z's that are out there and just figure out how to over come the errors I am getting after the 3d editing, but I figured asking the community for the aforementioned request couldn't hurt. I may not be asking the correcting questions or posting this with the proper nomenclature/vernacular as I'm still learning (ALOT!). Respectfully, Kludo
  4. ADDED: Ive moved along and continued editing A2 samples and some of the stuff authors have released in forums that are ok with their stuff being edited. Kind of make due with what ya got, which is cool. Ive started work on the cockpits and this is where I want to try to spend some time, add something nice. On my AH-1W I'm using the AIM-9M, (Ive been able to actually only find AIM-9L's but whetever theyre pretty close.) Ive added a push button for sidewinder cool in the gunner and pilots seats, I'm still working on getting it functional, I'm trying to make it so the Winder gives you no tone rise and degraded acquisition until sidewinder cool is turned on. With all the reading Ive been doing with cockpit tutorials, I haven't really found anything that approached degraded systems coding/scripting until proper interlocks/controls have become functional. One or two I did find were kind of all or nothing, the weapon worked 100 percent with a certain interlock engaged or not all, which I may go to ultimately if I cant figure out how to do this, an added bonus would be that Id like to make the winder cool function only work for a few minutes then your winders degrade, (typical LAU-7 time lines.) Any one broached this problem? Ideas where to begin? Thank you. R/ Kludo Hello, I'm shooting this out as just sort of a shot in the dark. I'm trying to find someone who has a 1W mod completed that would be willing to work out getting the source files. I have contacted some authors and have waited a little more then a week with no reply. I'm not interested in stealing credit for someones work or anything of that nature. I have several (paid for) 3d models (outside/cockpit) I was hoping to use someones ARMA 3 AH-1W as sort of a template as I'm pretty crude with coding (Ive found some "free use" AH-1W/1Z mix overs but when I try to work in the 3d models I have it becomes error land so I was hoping something closer to the 1W would be easier to use to get started. (I'm most interested in making a more functioning cockpit using some of the newer tutorials Ive seen floating around. Id be more then happy to attribute said original author, include pictures of them on the side of the aircraft whatever, we can work something out. I'm currently at a joint USN/USMC command and it's something I'm interested in doing before I xfer from here working with 1W's and 1Z's. R/ Kludo
  5. Greetings, I bought ARMA 2 CO and Arma 2 OA from Sprocket. As the title says, When I try to install the 1.08 patch it says my installation of Arma 2 is corrupt or its not installed on my computer. I reinstalled ARMA 2 and that didnt work. I redownloaded the file that didnt work. I am told it may be a registry issue, but to be honest I have no clue how to edit the registry. Also, I tried the search function but there were so many results I could pour through them all. Thank you, Kludo

    Attack Helicopter Question

The AGM-114 K requires a laser be "Painting" the target. The AGM-114 L is fire and forget because it can use millimeter wave guidance and/or IR guidance. The AGM-65 Maverick has also several variants like the Hellfire. A IR seeker version, Laser seeker version, and also a TV guided seeker version. The TV guided seeker version requires the launching aircraft or aircraft near the launching aircraft have an AWW-13 Data Link Pod for communication with the Maverick in flight. Frederf, The AGM-114L is capable of being launched from the AH-1Z. There are reasons I will not go into here that it is not currently done Operationally. Kludo.

    Attack Helicopter Question

In operation Desert Storm, the first attacks of the war, were AH-64 Apache's taking out Iraqi SAM sites and SAM Radar emplacements prior to the main strike packages of F-16's,F-15's, A-6E's, A-7E's, and F/A-18A's and other aircraft. EDIT: ADDED -> *** A day after the deadline set in Resolution, the coalition launched a massive air campaign which began the general offensive codenamed Operation Desert Storm with more than 1,000 sorties launching per day. It began on January 17, 1991, when Task Force Normandy (eight U.S. AH-64 Apache helicopters led by two MH-53 Pave Low helicopters) destroyed Iraqi radar sites and surface to air missile installations near the Iraqi-Saudi Arabian border at 2:38 A.M**** So yes, Helicopters are great at sneaking in low and attacking the SAM network of a given force. The AH-1 and its variants do not use a Radar per se, but they do use the nose mounted FLIR pod for Target acquisition and designation. This FLIR pod has a laser in it that is used to "Paint" the target for the AGM-114 Hellfire system. There are a number of passive systems in the AH-1Z that help in detection and tracking of enemy units. So yes, Helicopters can in some instances provide the first strike on a SAM network, and are best suited for pop-up attacks. Even the AH-1Z excels in this because the AGM-114 has so many launch modes. I.E. LOAL= Lock on After Launch. Where the missile moves in a given Commanded Direction before the Seeker begins looking for the Laser Designator. Where ARMA II and I fails for me with so many aircraft is a lack of functioning FLIR/AT FLIR system that has target designation and lasing ability. And no buddy lasing? Like a Harrier lasing for another Harrier or an AH-1Z lasing for an A-10. Having to wait on the guys on the ground to lase a target is something long long gone. Most aircraft in the U.S. inventory have FLIR/LANTRIN and lasing abilities. Even the F-14B & F-14D had the ability to lase for its own GBU's. Kludo Aviation Ordnanceman, USN.
