  1. I've been playing ArmA II for quite some while but I NEVER know how to give out my location to some of my soldiers who can't find me. There seems to be absolutely no button to say "I'M AT GRID...". How do I report where I am when my AI asks me where I am?
  2. I thought that having a grass layer would be a wonderful idea but after seeing it in action i'm still worried that AI and players will have an unfair advantage with it. Considering how the grass layer works, if you go prone the grass can almost completely conceal you and even completely conceal you if you are at the right angle. I think this is unfair since once someone goes prone at about 200m away they can instantly disappear even though if they rendered the grass at that area it would be easy to see the soldier prone in the grass. One easy solution is to make the player slightly transparent but that would look too awkward. Another one would be to automatically add some "grass" camo if you are at a distance as well on the player so it looks like the unit at the distance is blended in with the enviroment. There isn't a perfect solution out there and I can understand why we have a grass layer but it in my opinion is not the best solution.
  3. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/03/10/unlimited-detail-wants-to-kill-3d-cards/ Has anyone seen this? Amazing, and it doesn't need a GPU, it just runs on your CPU and it can even run on a mobile phone!
  4. I am completely shocked by this, good ol Wikileaks.

    Taliban failing to detonate mine

Interesting to see it from the Taliban's point of view. 1zL9AKXxDW0
  6. Playing public games is a mess in ArmA II. First of all there is like 90% domination servers. What happened to the old fashioned co-op style games? When ever I join in it's a mess. People are running around everywhere and you just get in the chopper, get out, walk 2 miles to get to the place where AI is shooting everywhere, and then die. Why does no one stick in their squad? Inside Project Reality it's all human players and the public games are fine. Everyone seems to know what they are doing and no one is just running around. The players even *GASP* stick in their squad unlike ArmA II. I just don't understand how public games in ArmA II are an absolute mess while in Project Reality it's all nice and tidy.
  7. A Battlefield 2.5 mod for ArmA II. Features: Conquest on Utes(points such as Strelka, north side of airport, south side of airport) Permanent bases such as south side of Utes(occupied by russians)(Airport with U.S) Running while shooting(albeit more unaccurate) Vehicles more resilient to damage(One tank round isn't instant kaboom) Player's health vastly ramped taking 6 shots to fully kill someone in torso, damage scales down at farther ranges making 500 meter kills less annoying) I know most ArmA II players will revolt at my request but I've always wanted to see a Battlefield scenario in ArmA II where people would just run from village to field with no worries, where games would just be pick up and play and leave without anything else to worry about. You can't do this in ArmA II. It would be a casual game where the action will always be fast paced without no "downtime" of traveling from mile to mile.
  8. I think it would be a good idea to make movement speed adjustable with the mouse wheel. I don't know anything that's binded to the mouse wheel so it seems fine for normal use. There should be 6 stages of movement. 6. Sprint 5. Run 4. Jog 3. Walk 2. Slower walk(3/4 speed of walk) 1. Very slow walk(1/2 speed of walk) I think this sort of movement system would solve the trying to shoot out of cover leaning and then over stepping or understepping. I think your character should also have momentum and it should take a short while for your character to fully stop instead of being like sticks in the ground who instantly stop if you let go of the W key.
  9. I would like for this to be in too. It looks pretty cool.

I got the ps3 eye! Works perfectly.
  12. I'm just wondering what are the roles of BIS and BIA. Do BIA make like the hardware and the simulators and sends them to BIS to downgrade them for consumers?

For most games it'll be fine but there's going to be a noticeable delay. Also if you have the cash, a PS3-eye with the CL-eye drivers works GREAT at 60fps at 320x240. There's an option for 640x480 at 30fps but sadly it is glitched with the cl-eye drivers. http://codelaboratories.com/home/

Do you use infrared LEDs? Do you need to remove the IR filter? I'm thinking about buying a floppy disk too and putting the magnetic tape over the camera to block out the visible spectrum.

Has anyone tried the HP KQ246AA 8.0MP Deluxe Webcam? There's an EXTREMELY good deal on amazon for it and I really want to get it. I'm wondering whether it has a very strong IR filter though... Also is there any good way to make a 3 point clip? I was thinking about using a plastic clothes hanger and drilling holes in it for the IR LED lights. Here is the link if anyone wants to know: http://www.amazon.com/HP-KQ246AA-8-0MP-Deluxe-Webcam/dp/B001D8AGA2

    Game physics

The ragdolls can be handled clientside to disregard the sync between server and client. The problem is syncing where the body is so you can take the gear out.
  22. I know having squads is for the realism aspect but in ArmA II do AI in squads really benefit from being placed in a squad? Why does the leader always tell the AI to target everything? Why does that help in ArmA II? If units are engaging a target that was given from their leader, they will blindly ignore any enemy in front of them after 50m since they are only focusing on a target behind a wall or something. The AI will also know most locations of the enemy with their super human hearing as well. If I just placed all the AI as lone wolfs wouldn't they just shoot any enemy they see on site making them more effective? This most likely isn't the case in real-life but in ArmA II doesn't the targeting make them less effective?
  23. The key bindings are all wrong. We need a keybinding for default ArmA II controls because I don't want to vault over nothing just to change the range of my gun.
  24. Having a grass layer isn't a best solution in my opinion. Having the grass layer is either being completely invisible at 50m or sticking out like a sore thumb if you are at the wrong angle. Being completely invisible if you position yourself correctly is unfair IMO. A solution would be to keep the grass layer but when you zoom in with a scope it should draw the normal grass. Since there's not much on the screen it wouldn't kill performance by just rendering a small patch of grass that's visible by the scope. This way it wouldn't display unlimited grass killing your FPS but showing the actual grass when zooming in.
