CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."
Archamedes replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
The only thing I loved in OFP that isn't part of Arma 2 is the fact you were part of an armed force. In ofp there were much more missions in the campaign, and you followed the story of a new recruit right up to his promotion to team leader. that coupled with the odd side missions where you would play a tank commander, pilot or small special ops squad. you could pretty much sacrifice your whole squad of 10 soldiers in order to complete the mission. Arma 2 follows a team of special ops who must all survive each mission. True you had the entire USMC behind you but you never got to play it from other peoples perspective. -
At first I thought this was some beer commercial, then a spoof, but no apparently these things are the real thing. I think everyone needs one

i think its a good tool to cheat with, after all why drink beer when you can take some hussie home and bring home the bacon?

I dont think its fair to judge the game til you have played it or seen any decent footage of it. I would like to say your all judging a book by its cover, but theres not even yet a cover to judge. Im sure CM are fully aware that flashpoint 2 was crap and may actually work on it to make the 3rd one better. I actually enjoyed the sequel, simply because i didnt spend too much time comparing it or deliberatly finding faults with it, i just took it for what it was. The 3rd one may surprise everyone and actually be quite fun. However i know what you lot are like even if you cant find anything wrong with it some of you will force yourself to hate it or pick faults that are probably not even there. In actual fact if there was anything good with flashpoint 2 that really could have been used by arma and that is the ragdoll physics when people got shot -
Yeah thats what im talking about, a game wouldnt need to be pointless endless shooting over a trench, but more psychological and role playing. For instance, helping to dig trenches, reinforce them, preventing the spread of disease etc... I guess in a way Arma is the same, we all concentrate mainly on the mission, getting nto hot zones and fighting. Rather than concentrating on the main duties undertaken by a soldier. That is the boredom, the long waits (sometimes up to 3 weeks) before getting an enemy contact, the long unevenftfull patrols where enemy ai is intentially not added. Vehicle inspections border control that sort of thing. Back to WW1 alough most of the time the men where hiding behind the rotten bodies of their mates and firing endlessly into the smoke, while completely exhausted and suffering from trenchfoot, they did mundane things and day to day duties that didnt always cover shooting and bombing
-
i stand corrected for any mistakes i may have made in my original post. However its still a fact i would love to see a really good ww1 fps game that tries to capture the realism, brutallness and raw feeling of living in a wet, dirty trench with trenchfoot. Alough i havent seen the films you listed, I think spielberg would have a field day making a saving private ryan type action film in ww1
-
Yeah because in real life, only wimps take cover when people are shooting at them

gta is a pointless arcade with a basic storyline that doesnt follow any real goal Alough i have enjoyed all the GTA games and never took them seriously. mafia on the otherhand was a very powerful game, the story was very in depth, powerful and close to any scorsese gangster film you could watch. Every mission was fun, even though a few were a bit crazy and over the top, they all had an important part that followed the story. I cant wait to get my hands on this.

remember the days when we had games like pacman, space invaders or even super mario bros on the nes. All those games took a few weeks to make and everybody loved them and never complained once. It seems that nowadays everyone is spoilt for choice when it comes to games, yet nobody is ever satisfied by anything thats made. "theres always an improvement thats needed for this or that game."

Well i took a trek up to birmingham to see my cousin and my mate for our 3 monthly linkup weekend, where we have a huge setup in the mancave. We drink, smoke and play arma and free falcon/open falcon through lan. All we needed is a prison toilet and the weekend would have been complete. Anyhow we have 3 pcs, 1 server pc 1 spare laptop, 3 cougar thrustmaster hotas control sticks/throttle, 3 track ir pro headsets, 3 saitek pedals (for rudder) and custom made hotas mounts made by my cousin. Ambient lighting attached to the back of the table and 3 men all in one room. The heat given off was absolutly unbearable. im sure a helicopter flying over would have taken a thermal reading and believed the mancave to be a marjuana farm. awesome weekend. Pics below

hes been on there for a good 2 years from what i know, maybe longer. wil lask him what his username is
-
yeah my cousin is simon jones, he usually goes by the name mr calm. not sure if thats what he uses on the falcon forum but i know hes always one there
-
no not posted it over there, my cousin is in with them big time and is close to the developers. Im sure he's already posted the pics. We only meet up once every 3 months for a weekend and it seems, every time i go up there, falcon always has a new patch that requires a fresh reinstall. Its still buggy, and we get our crash that boots one of us out the game, but for a game that was released in 1998 it has really come a long way, its like a grandad who wanted to die 10 years ago has been kept alive on life support and new technology. We did a 3 way coop campaign. It took about an hour and a half (real time) to get to the target, we had wing tip formations all the way, even had to do an air refuel. Very intense and after giving the base some serious dakka with jdams, and ccip bomb settings it was another hour and a half back with no auto pilot. It was a great sense of achievment when touching down. We all had a cigar and rested our strained and hurting arms. We all said that an ultra realistic fighter sim is needed and as falcon is the only real one that has super realistic settings and buttons etc.. we are sticking with it. However we have heard that the developers who made dcs black shark are in the process of developing an uber realistic a-10 sim. anyone not seen black shark, i suggest you search on youtube for the 10 minute ramp start video. Thats 10 minutes of pressing pretty much every button and switch in the helicopter in order to get it off the ground and armed for combat.

i wouldnt worry if bis are in charge it wouldn't have been beta tested and the hologram wouldnt work
-
yeah we have all settings set to realistic and all 3 of us do wing tip formation flying before giving the enemy base some serious dakka!

It makes me laugh when i read over some of the comments on these sorts of games. Medal of honor and call of duty, its the same fanboy crap. "its too scripted and and only has one way to play, its too much of an arcade blah blah blah!." Its like saying "oh i put on the new rambo film, its got too much over the top action and no matter how many times i restart the dvd it always has the same story and the same ending." Both moh and cod are basically interactive action films and are really fun to play. It seems the general thoughts on this forum is that only bis games are the best and you are a fool if you play anything else except arma. Sorry, but i love arma and i love cod, both are different games and i dont try to compare them or go all fanboy on the subject

As the title says, I was just messing around with my visual settings, when i found myself in the nvidia tools page. i was distracted by the stereoscope 3d tab, and after messing around with it i happened to have my red and blue 3d specs handy. It gave me the choice of using infa red glasses, usb charged glasses or yes the old skool glasses. After setting up the settings, I found i could play any game in full 3d. Cod mw2 was freaking awesome in 3d and arma 2 was too. Its weird i have had this setting on my pc for a while now and only just found it by accident

Right, Now that 1.05 is out and has fixed quite a lot of problems are there any other bugs not picked up or new ones caused by the 1.05 patch? Anyhow i have a couple of new ideas for the 1.06 patch 1. Being able to move in the map view. Currently when switching your character stops moving. You could move in ofp and it actually made it easier to cross country fast by moving in the map view especially if you sped up time and didn't have to deal with an fps issue. So could this be fixed? 2. Having The campaigns being compatible with A.C.E. would be good. Especially if you can get to manage rucks and extra weapons in the briefing. I don't think you can change weapons in the briefing screen which is a shame

I have 2 "game" shops and 1 gamestation in my town and none of them have oa, did it get releaesed in the uk today or not? saying that all 3 shops seem to be packed with everything you can think of for xbox ps3 wii, yet the pc section is 1 very small display panel, which i now call the "dirty shameful corner" It seems pc stuff really has been put out the way or only given a very small area just to make room for the consoles

I have been busy over the last 6 weeks making a 3D zombie comic. The Infection is my latest masterpiece and hopefully will be an ongoing project. Check it and beware, gore and swearing. best viewed at 100% view level http://video-fx-universe.com/nontutvideo/The%20infection%20issue%201.pdf pdf format. Right click save target.

excellent stuff. When i get a moment I will continue the script for issue 2. i am going to try and tone down the dialogue or pan it out over a few panels. However there will be a long bit at the beginning of the next one as president obama (yes i have a high quality 3d model of him) will be doing his little "my fellow americans" speech

my 360 has gone down about 3 times since i got the damn thing. Now microsoft want me to start paying for it to be fixed because its out of warranty now. Its annoying me because my old nes that i got back in 1989 still works as well as it did when i first bought it. anyway i found this, thought it may be useful <Advertisement link removed>
-
not sure, mine is one of the first line xboxes that came out. i thought that by at least the 2nd time i sent it off, they would have fixed it for good

are you kidding me? so games like vietcong and operation arrowhead ain't got shit on arma 2, being as arma and flashpoint concente on a non existant conflict that was so 1985. at least games are now starting to get up to date with current affairs. sheesh, i can't believe some of the fanboys you get today, no game is ever good enough or meet anybodies minimum requirements anymore. You would all be whinging if game companies stopped all together.

zone alarm wasnt on that list and so far i have found it the most effective
