Stupid: SecOps support wtf randomly works
Tennouheika posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Edit: Nevermind, just delete this. It was just being screwy and I don't know what was causing the issue, but it works now. So... moving on... -
So what’s the big deal about MP? Wonder how many simply play SP?
Tennouheika replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Whenever I try to play MP I feel like I'm running around with no idea where to go, and when I finally do get to some action I die from some random enemy a mile away. I have more fun playing in the editor and creating scenarios (Note: Scenarios I've created are too awful to share with the community) -

There's a column about ARMA 2 in the backpage section of PC Gamer. Basically saying the game represents everything that makes PC gaming great. Not sure I want to go and retype the whole column though so if anyone could find it online... -
ArmA II Photography I: Questions. Comments & Discussion

Here's a few action-ish shots I took recently http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-15-43-01.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-09-03-20.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1500-05-40-62.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1423-49-34-13.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1422-07-51-57.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-20-05-95.jpg (the last pic obviously looks bad, but just kind of shows the battlefield the tanks were on) -

Unexplainable slowdown during photography
Tennouheika replied to Tennouheika's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I'll try that, but it works fine as it is until I move it into certain positions, where it will randomly freeze until I can get away from the spot. Will do and report results though. *Update* That seemed to do the trick. I was able to fly the camera all over the place with no problem. Thanks. Here are a few highlights from the scene I shot: http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-08-25-41.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-09-03-20.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i101/Tennouheika/arma22009-08-1503-15-43-01.jpg -

music?
Tennouheika replied to TechnoTerrorist303's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Thanks some_kind_of_guy. Turns out all I had to do was save it. Now it works. Two questions though: Is there a way to boost the volume of the sound, or make other sounds quiet? I kind of made the pilot speak the line, but he does it at a time when music is playing and the helicopter is cranking it's engine. Also, I can't seem to find it in the ARMA 2 script commands, but what is the command to sort of set a delay? Such that after 10 seconds the pilot will speak, for example? -

Ok I feel retarded. I literally copy and pasted what you said, placed the .ogg in the right place (plus another .ogg just so I have a track2). When it executes the script it tells me "Sound track1 not found." What could this be? -
I do this all the time.

how do i create an artillry fire mission?
Tennouheika replied to sodomys's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
That works perfectly. I've never made a script before, but I guess that was the key. I was messing with the thing for about an hour, getting frustrated when I realized I had the target too close to the artillery pieces (on the other end of Utes island...). I threw the marker in the ocean and suddenly the artillery pieces were firing. Thanks a ton. Now I'll just work with it, do some tweaking, and have fun. -
Script gibirish
Tennouheika replied to wizbomb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
When I first started playing with the editor I didn't know how to do much more than place some good guys and some bad guys and make them fight eachother. Since then I've been able to do some more complex stuff. Sometimes I sit down at the game and say "I'm going to figure out how to make a unit, like an airplane, move from point A to point B repeatedly so as to give the affect of airplanes flying over every once in awhile." Eventually you'll get the hang of it. -
how do i create an artillry fire mission?
Tennouheika replied to sodomys's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I kind of feel retarded, but I can't figure out how to follow the ARTY Quick Start you posted. The SecOps works fine. Basically this is what I do: 1) Place rifleman as me, the player. 2) Place m119. I tried 1, or 3. If 3 I set one of them as the group leader and the other guys in his group. 3) Place artillery module 4) Sync to ARTY leader 5) Place a target some place. Either it is a tank or a location. This is where I think I'm screwing up. The guide says "To set up a fire mission template, create an array consisting of the following elements, in respective order..." then it gives the example "_heTemplate = ["IMMEDIATE", "HE", 0, 15];" Now where do I place that template? I threw it in the Arty module init field, as well as the init field of some game logic. Next it says to set a target unit. "The easiest way to test this is to set a target vehicle or unit, and then use: _targetPos = getPosASL _targetUnit;" Obviously _targetUnit is the name of the tank or location I've placed. But where do I place that line? I tried doing it in the trigger for radio alpha. Finally, the guide says "Then call the fire mission in on the position by using: [_myBattery, _targetPos, _heTemplate] call BIS_ARTY_F_ExecuteTemplateMission;" I place this line in a trigger for radio alpha. _mybattery is the name of the group leader, right? Anyway, I do this and nothing happens. I've spent an hour looking at it and tweaking stuff and I feel stupid. I'm sure you can help me and point out the simple mistake I must be making! Thanks. -
Are there any Flying/Bombing missions ?
Tennouheika replied to DecoySA's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Also if you play in the Armory and finally unlock some airplanes you can fly those around and receive missions like "Go to target area and kill/destroy all hostiles" and "survive being hunted by the enemy." Those can be pretty fun. Only thing is I pretty much always have to eject and kill the last guy with an MP5 on the "destroy all hostiles" missions. It's also funny when I shoot down an enemy plane and the pilot ejects and runs to that area so I have to track him down. -
How does the laser designator work?
Tennouheika replied to MadsHilde's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well.. is there a way to place a lasertarget on an object? How would I get an airplane to just come in and bomb a specific building without me marking it with my own laserdesignator? -

How would I attach a lasertarget to, say, an enemy tank? I tried naming the tank t1 lasertarget attachto [t1,[0,0,1]]; Tried lasertarget, lasertargetwbase, lasertargetw, etc. ? -
ArmA2: The All New OFFICIAL "where to buy?" Thread.
Tennouheika replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
You can make a backup of a game on Steam. Though to reinstall the game it looks like you still use Steam. But so what? Which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon since Valve (the developer who developed and maintains Steam) is making tons of money with it's successful Half Life, Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead games. Also it's the number 1 source for online distribution, so they're doing fine. Why would this be an issue? Steam auto-patches the game for you. You can disable auto-patching if you want. This isn't Valve's fault. Various retailers I think said they would boycott selling a game if it was prices lower on Steam, so publishers keep the price the same across digital and brick and mortar stores. Though every weekend Steam has a sale, where you can buy games for sometimes more than 50% off. I was able to get every Ghost Recon game ever made for a mere $20 a few months ago. There are also digital version of the manuals, though I admit that it is nice to be able to bring a physical copy into the bathroom sometimes. When has this ever happened? Why would it be? -

Steam is horrible? You must never have used Steam because it's great. There's no reason not to use it. It's so convienient, after a reformat or new computer to be able to just download Steam, then let it download all my games and auto patch them for me. Then I can load up the built in friends list and hop in a game with them. And after I die in a game that has long respawn times I can load the built-in browser and surf the Web for a bit until I spawn. Just download and use Steam. It's great. -

If you're new to PC Gaming then you should take advantage of some of the things that make it great. Go to http://www.steampowered.com and download Steam. It's a digital distribution portal which as a lot of great features, like friends lists and community options (clans, groups, etc.). You can purchase ARMA 2 on that and have it downloaded in hours (if you've got a good connection anyway). The other cool thing is if your computer explodes or something later, you can install Steam on a new computer and download all the games you've already purchased. As for your original question though - No, usually if a game is released on the 6th (for example), it should be in stores at most by the 7th or 8th. -

Not to go too far off topic, but what makes AA3 "garbage?" I think the game so far has turned out to be pretty great. The only problem it seems to have had was the servers not being able to handle the load at release. But if you're going to judge a game based on the servers at launch not allowing people to play, then Half Life 2 must have been terrible since customers weren't able to play that game on release day either. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Tennouheika replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
PC Gaming is a great thing to get into. Must warn you though - Arma 2 is not the easiest game to start out playing. It's great, but it'll be tough. Just stick with it and it'll be rewarding. Probably. All the specs for the laptop sound good, but I'm not totally sure how it would compare to a desktop PC. You'll be able to run it at least. -
Looking at mission PBOs in Editor ?
Tennouheika replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Glad I saw this thread. I was going to ask the same thing. I was trying to recreate the scenario "Trial By Fire", and stuff wasn't working exactly right. Loaded up the real map and good golly is it packed with stuff happening. Triggers, units sometimes being spawned, etc. Surely I'll get the hang of it? -

I've had trouble trusting reviews ever since almost everyone gave Far Cry 2 90%+ scores. Even PC Gamer magazine, who I've been with for more than 10 years, gave the game an editor's choice and was their Action game of the year. Ugh. -

I run Windows 7 and the game runs mostly alright most of the time. It would be kind of nice to see a comparison, using the same hardware, of different operating systems and how they compare. But even if I could get up to 20+ frames extra in XP, I wouldn't give up Windows 7. This operating system runs wonderfully and looks great too. Also some other features, I dunno.
