  1. Yeah it's gonna be tough, the scumbag has to use tool B instead of tool A. All such a protection will do is buying a little time and then what?
  2. Having objects detail on very high are curing the worst of the flickering for me, still some flickering though!
  3. By "elite" i mean the skilled modders/scripters or whatever who have been around for a long time. It seems to be mainly them who want things locked up. So the old system worked fine until the "elite" got so good it's not necessary for them to peek anymore?
  4. You guys keep saying "taking/stealing/selling".... I'll say it again, it's not okay to steal other peoples work, it's not okay to take/re-use other peoples work without permission. There's a difference in learning from looking and do a plane copy/paste. But the question still stands, have the "elite" in here never opened a bis pbo to solve a problem they had, maybe even re-used bits of code from there? Of course they have but thats another story i guess!
  5. Maybe you missed the point complete because you sounds like your work is being stolen if someone takes a peek at your code!
  6. Thats completely nonsens, people can look at our stuff just aswell as we at theirs.
  7. Indeed, when i joined these forums i knew nothing about arma and scripting and everytime i got directed to biki i got even more confused. Now that i know the basic biki makes much more sense, not all the time though.
  8. We can all agree on that(almost, there will always be morons). If you have read what most "nay" sayers here are talking about you would notice it isn't about stealing/selling/re-use other peoples work. You sounds like the whole community is rotten! So i'm sorry if you feel robbed because i perhaps has learned something or solved a problem by looking at some mod you made.
  9. It's far from everybody who open up pbo's to look at a model!! Personally i'm usually looking at scripting and configs and i'm pretty sure many others does the same.
  10. Yes of course it is, last time i asked someone for permission it took several weeks before i got a answer but of course i asked for permission because was going to re-use some content. If i were to ask permission every single time i wanted to open a pbo just to look for a solution i wouldn't get anywhere, but i see it's all for themself now! So none of you elite addon makers in this thread has never opened a bis pbo to figure out how to do different stuff without contacting bis for permission?
  11. What the hell does that have to do with pride that someone somewhere in the world is sitting infront of his computer using your mod which he modified for personal use for whatever reason he had  I have no idea how all that model stuff work, when i open up a pbo it's usally to solve a problem i'm having with the mod and my mission, or if i'm stuck on something and i think the answer lies inside a pbo.
  12. I FULLY understand that people are angry about some people stealing models and sells them or use them in their own mod, but most if not all in this thread arguing for not implenting a protection are talking about learning and solving problems looking at pbo's, not stealing or ripping a part. If i released a mod and someone modified it, for personal use of course i couldn't care less.
  13. Yes you keep saying "FREE", but what on earth will it do to you if i solved a problem by looking at your code  ...hey wait i know the answer: "it's mine, it's my right". Yeah right we all rip everything to bits whenever it's released, jeez :j:
  14. Well there you have it, you don't want anybody to look and learn from your code because it's yours, it sure sounds like selfishness and maybe greed in some form. And of course your have never looked into pbo's without asking for permission every single time, actually BIS mail inbox is filled with emails from you
  15. What harm can it possible do to you if someone in here have solved a problem by looking at your code? What harm can it possible do to you if someone in here have edited a mod you released for personal use?
  16. Well thats exactly what people including me in this thread are saying, they are "peeking" to learn/solve problems. I wonder how many people around these forums who are involved in scripting/addon making etc. who NEVER has looked into bis or other community members pbo's for the reason of solving a problem.
  17. Well you answered your own question, to learn, to solve a problem. I have many times solved mission related problems by looking into BIS pbo's and community made pbo's if need(ACE several times). So if thats an excuse then i'll call your argument selfish and greedy ;)

ArmA II focusing too much on realism?

But to actually answer the original question, is ArmA II focusing too much on realism? No i think they got a decent balance between realism and casual gaming experience. Luckily we have a great community to adjust the game into certain aspects people enjoy :)
  19. Well as long as you've only heard of a few cases, seen one and only suspecting more, maybe then it's not that big of a problem.

ArmA II focusing too much on realism?

Well i have changed my view on ArmA2 since i joined these forums. When i first joined i couldn't have enough realism and went for ACE and whatnot, now i prefere it just as it is :)
  21. How on earth could i tell if the community is bullet proof... of course it isn't just like many other things aren't. I'm saying that the community and moderators are doing a darn good job keep things running fair. According to you the community "doesn't give a shit"....nice.
  22. So this has happened once and you witnessed it, surely we need to encrypt everything now and hire a addon police too. I've seen many times people have been confronted about stuff they have released not being entirely there's and the community/moderators has acted on it.
  23. And how often does this happen, is this really such a huge problem that we need to hide/encrypt our code? If someone is releasing your work or someone else without permission contact a moderator and i'll asure you the right actions will be made. ...also the community will support you heavily on this matter.
  24. I have not mentioned any tool names in this thread, i've named a pbo extract tool name in the editing forums once long time ago i think and thats about it. This arise my original question:
  25. Do we ask for permission to go down to the supermarket to look at the sugar or do we just do it... I don't feel like a burglar when i have looked at other peoples code, i have looked at ACE code many times to get my missions working properly i have no issues what-so-ever about that, should i?
