Post your negative 1.03 AI experiences here
Kenjineering replied to bangtail's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The ghillie suits don't really provide any stealth benefits. Generally I find the Ai at close range un-reactive. I notice them scanning for me but they should really have peripheral vision and shouldn't have to scan when I am 50m away and uncovered. -
Arma II is going on the shelf...

Dammit! I have to wait a bit longer now until I can fly that! -
Sli Question & 1.03 Errors and Comments
Kenjineering posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Gday Guys, Sli Query Could someone please be so kind and explain to me why my graphics cards are utilized more in SLI when Objects are closer to the screen? (I think) For example, I have Fraps and the Sli indicator bars activated. When I am 100% zoomed out of the map screen I get 13FPS with 0% Sli activation. When I zoom 100% into the map I get 1500FPS with 50% Sli activation. It seems kind of counter intuitive to me. I would expect more Sli activation when you are zoomed out and trying to handle more stuff on screen. A similar thing happens in the ARMA2 Benchmark in the very first scene with the two cars. When the car being tracked is at its closest to the screen, the Sli indicators reach for the sky! 1.03 Stuff 1) & 2) aren't really a problem. 1) Does anyone get the in game error message "Sound Counter not found" when loading campaigns? It comes up just prior to the fast forwarding digital clock that lets you know how much time has passed since your last campaign. It isn't a problem since there is an option to continue. 2) Arma2 crashed with the error message "Cannot Commit". Does anyone know what this means? This occurred in the initial gameplay stages of Red Razor (the search mission). While the officer was blabbing away I hopped into the nearest hummer and ordered my troops to get in. The order wasn't issued straight away since the officer's dialogue had not yet completed. Once he had finished, Arma2 Crashed and up popped that error message. I went back into the mission and this time just stood there and listened to him and after he had finished I issued the orders to get into the hummer and no error came up. 3) Can anyone else not open the Arma2 benchmark with v1.03?!? Arma2, for me freezes during the loading and displays "Arma2 stopped working - Check online for solutions?" 1.03 noted improvements (for me) - Changing the view distances doesn't affect FPS as much. - Less flickering. - Zooming used to chug a bit, but now FPS increase as I zoom (slightly)! - The Ai don't seem to land perfect shots as much. I play on Expert mode with Super AI enabled. After 1.03, any other setting makes me feel like I am playing against bags of meat. ---------- Post added at 04:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:39 PM ---------- Oh and I am running the steam version -
This thread just makes me jealous/depressed of those with 512MB cards or single GPU cards that get 60FPS. However, it is usually their OC cpus + Win7/XP that pulls them up. I will invest in a Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler and faster RAM to get my CPU in the order of 4ghz I reckon. I have an SSD harddrive, but I've read that it only reduces flickering and not texture load times or FPS. Is this true?

1. Editor: Icons that match real world size. 2. Backpacks go by weight+slot size. 3. Removal of reflections of the outside world on the inside of tank walls. 4. Lighting inside tanks and air planes could do with a good tweak. People look like Jesus resurrecting (glowing) and the general interior feels like I am still outside and not inside a machine. 5. The AI needs to react (most of the time) in a realistic manner. (This should be in a thread of its own) 6. PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION 7. Improvement in AI vehicle pathfinding (I can only imagine how difficult this must be, especially in forest areas) 8. Make Russians say ,"AH my LEG" in Russian and not in American English. 9. Surprise us with some added content :P

benchmark framerates?
Kenjineering replied to bumbling_gimp's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I don't know much about ATI cards, did you check out the ATI stickied thread? If you haven't you should :) The Arma2 demo should run quite a bit better than the actual game. Also, XP has been shown to run this game quite a lot better than vista. -

playing on expert + super AI: I put a BMP3 on and aligned with the air strip. I then situated my character dead a head of it maybe 100m away. When I entered the game I went prone and approached it. I was about 35m away from the BMP3 when it decided to turn on its engines and shoot me. It really should have shot me as soon as I spawned. -
The performance tweaks have had a positive affect on my system. My system can now cope with higher view distances and with higher settings. There is less flickering. Zooming increases FPS now instead of decreasing them. I do however, get errors accompanied with crashes. I used to only get the odd crash which I blame on Win7. ---------- Post added at 07:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:01 PM ---------- Good: I am satisfied, but I hoped for more Whether my hope of 'more' is reasonable or not is unknown to me ahah

same ere'.. I really wanna test 1.03 -
Your computer would have been nice 3.5 years ago, however we all know the rate at which new technology becomes redundant. Is your computer a duo core? How much ram is there in your video card? I am guessing less than 256MB? Which operating system? Windows Vista? Windows XP? How much are you willing to spend on a new computer? EDIT: Btw, I get fairly good performance (most of the time) with Arma2 with Terrain detail:Normal..Object detail:High... NO Anti-Aliasing (the nifty interpolating stuff that smooths out step like rough edges on objects)... and the rest on Very High. FPS average 25-45 in campaigns (Guess).. Problems for me are in large cities where I would get 18-25ish FPS + some of the problems you described. All my other games run at highest settings without a problem. People with weaker machines than mine have gotten much better performance than I have with ARMA2. If I recall correctly, one guy had this machine: core i7 920 @2.66ghz Nvidia GTX 285 1GRAM 6 Gig DDR3 (DDR3 is the fastest ram at the moment and there are several different speeds within its category to choose from) Windows XP and he reported Benchmarks of 56 FPS! However, this is most likely attributed more to the fact that ARMA2 likes XP over other operating systems. If you do end up using ARMA2 as a comparable benchmark when selecting computer hardware, just keep in mind that its performance seems to vary even amongst those people with similar set-ups.

Any news of the upcoming patch?
Kenjineering replied to droezelke's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I remember reading in the other thread that it is a beta patch that will not be supported by steam. Is this true? Or is it just the hear-say of the forums :P!? Either way I can wait. -
Installed Win7 (XP before) .... first A2 impressions
Kenjineering replied to kremator's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
lol I wouldn't say scam but I know where you are coming from. The reason why I used those results is that it shows a big improvement between Win7 and Vista. The actual game however didn't see as big a jump and I HAVE to turn terrain detail and object detail down and turn off AA. Red Razor in built up areas: Vista64: 10-21fps (inconsistent frame drops) Win7: 18-25fps (consistent low frames i.e a bit more playable) (I am not too sure about the exact FPS, I can't remember) -
Yeah Eth tested this out on a few different machine setups. XP>Win7>Vista (I also have the same issues as you, turning Object detail and terrain detail down for that mission helped a tad)

Does ARMA2 actually utilise graphics cards??
Kenjineering replied to Zepboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
For those who don't know.. this is the computer the devs use for their Developer Diary Series: "As requested in previous comments please find the HW configuration of the PC on which we are capturing the Dev Diaries: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU, E8600 @ 3.33GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.3GHz 2046MB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 " -
1) Check to see if Sli is being activated during the game. Right Click Desktop>NVIDIA Control Panel>3D Settings> Show Visual Indicators Start up ARMA2 and see if you get any green bar activity. If you don't get any find the posts in this forum that show how you can get it activated. It should be in the stickied threads here (NVIDIA ONE, check towards the end of the first post and any other tips in that post are worth a try like max pre-rendered frames = 8 etc). If you see anything like EVGA Sli patch or Nhancer then you are on the right track. (I use Nhancer, the EVGA sli patch didn't work with me after I converted to Win7 from Vista64) 2) Search the forums for disabling V-sync, this gives significant improvement. (Stickied Threads) Also download Fraps so that you can check to see if your FPS aren't getting an upper locked limit of 60FPS (meaning, V-sync is ON). This is best checked by looking at the FPS at the main menu. 3) Some people found that disabling PhysX GPU acceleration via the NVIDA Control Panel Helped. 4) Check that your Fillrate is 100%, meaning, in your ARMA2 in game video settings the 3D Resolution is the same as the other resolution. 5) Some people found that rolling your NVIDIA Drivers back to 182.5 helps. But I don't know how well these same people are performing with the latest 190.38s, sorry. 6) Make sure everything else is up to date on your computer. LOL and the game. 7) Install Windows 7 RC version as a dual boot. Or better yet XP. (XP seems to be the best OS for this game) (Significantly) 8) (NOT A FIX) Turn Terrain detail down to Normal and fiddle with Object Detail. (These settings make the biggest difference) 9) Fiddle with the start up parameters like timRiceSE said... -winxp... -maxmem=2048... -cpucount=4 (these never did anything for me) 10) Apparently (according to recent posts) a patch is on its way soon (maybe within a week) so stay tuned for that. But don't hold your breath! ---------- Post added at 12:17 AM ---------- Previous post was Yesterday at 11:46 PM ---------- oh snap I didnt read your post properly... points... 6)...7)...8)....9) Texture loadings I think are cpu related, so all that nonsense about nvidia stuff.. ignore it. And do these texture loading problems happen all the time? or just in the big missions like Red Razor and that?

EDITING: Please make the unit icons on the ediring map mirror their actual physical size. This would make planning a base landscape much easier.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
Kenjineering replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I LOVE Arma2 and it certainly makes my other games look bad. I will buy BIS games again, but maybe 6-12 months after they're released. -
bad graphics performance - BiS confirm?
Kenjineering replied to 7SD-Toker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hey that isn't totally accurate. There are a lot of people who can't accomplish 25FPS in city areas even when they do turn their settings down. (like me) -
Aiming like im on steroids
Kenjineering replied to bluetorch's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
LOL why so rude!?!@! I believe he was casually asking, "Which settings relate to my problem?" so that he has an understanding of what he is changing. For people like myself who also own a razor gaming mouse I am glad he asked. (I don't suffer from his problem) -
Win 7, steam sound us_aware265 not found
Kenjineering replied to mils's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I did a clean install of Win764bit RC from Vista64 and I backed up my Steamapps folder like you did. I have never encountered this error. And it is strange that you will get it since you checked the file integrity. The only sound issues I have is that the sound is slightly metallic, but that is the same with all my programs. I installed OpenAL and Realtek HD sound shite before I tested ARMA2 (I have no Idea what they do, all I know is that they are to do with sound lol), that is the only notable difference I can see :( sorry ---------- Post added at 01:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:15 AM ---------- Did you checkout http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77880 ? it says + sound issues... maybe your fix is there.. (sorry I am totally useless) -
Anyone getting black and white flashing?
Kenjineering replied to Barso's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah it's SLI.. I don't get it when I disable it. It adds drama to the game :) -
@Dave: Thanks for the post. I will go try ARMA2 on my SSD. @Jack5577: If I remember correctly, Eth (another user) tested the game out across SSD and spinning hardrives aswell as Win7,XP and Vista but found that stuttering (along with other problems) was resolved the most when he changed to XP. Personally, I experienced stutter (in built up areas) with Vista64bit but when I changed to Win7 the stutter + mouse lag reduced.
