Stuck on first mission
Jimmy the Saint replied to lizardgun's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Humm, strange was when my team told me that I forgot the Laser-Designator although I was sure I took it with me. However I was able to finish the mission. -
...on the 7th attempt of manhatten. Spoilers.
Jimmy the Saint replied to Muzza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I agree, you cannot foresee every single event in all the (campaign) missions. Today for example I played the "Manhatten" mission and I was at the LZ Jersey, waiting for the Mi-24 Hind from the CDF to pick up the "package". The first time, the chopper arrived just in time, but one of my teammates got killed. The second time, I could see from a distance how the helicopter got shot down and a third time, the helicopter got damaged near the LZ by those arriving enemy jeeps and started to get out of control, spun around and could not fly away. The fourth time it worked perfectly. Anyway the key to solve such complex mission is the save function. And by the way, callsign "Boomerang" is just a LAV-25 vehicle supposed to support your attack at the main base. You cannot expect that vehicle to handle an APC and a T-72 tank alone. :) -
How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
Jimmy the Saint replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This poll comes too short with different neutral answers. Related to hardware problems I would vote very good, no problems so far. Talking about game optimation is a different point, since I do not have the newest hardware. But the game is still running very acceptable on high settings and a view distance of 3000m. The "fun factor" which this game simulates is absolutely there. Myself as a de facto pacifist and non-combatant who never experienced any army drill, not even war, can feel the steady perception of a on going conflict between different forces in a rebelious war zone. So, the immersion is also there. -

Go play WWIIOnline! -
I did not even know this is a game feature. But reloading the weapon should do the trick or there might be a seperate button. Take a look in the game/key configuration menu.

Could this be possibly the best game in history?
Jimmy the Saint replied to TheMonster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Nobody would write something like "blah blah blah" simply because it makes no sense. What kind of quote is that? Oh and second question, who are you quoting there? So much for basic correctness. :blahblah2: -
I expect you do not have a printed handbook? I am not sure, but I think BIS was planning to release a digital manual.

Boot camp; fixed wing / VTOL training issue
Jimmy the Saint replied to cornweld's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had a similar incident(cannot remember which scenario or training it was), at first the event showed up as unfinished, although I finished it correctly. I decided to redo the same event once more to achieve that green dot, but I failed and shut down the game. Now the stange thing was, after I have restarted the game, the green dot showed up. :) -
Graphical glitches with ATi cards?
Jimmy the Saint replied to Morbo513's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
looks evil - almost like something is overheating or damaged, maybe a memory problem, who knows, I'm just guessing. I remember my nvidia graphic-card making similar artifacts just before it got broken. -
Do not bump please. Anyway I have no "real" AI problems. Occasionally they seem to be stuck on a tree or something, but switching to that unit and moving it a bit closer to my squad leader and then switching back to the squad leader always helps. I do not know which mission in the demo you are playing. If it is the mission where you have to invade two towns, you have to capture the village first to build new outpost. It works like a capture the flag type of game.

I do not like to play with cashcows. On the one hand people are complaining that the game is incomplete and hope for fixes and patches within days which is impossible to handle and on the other hand people are asking the community offically if they want to pay for "content" (whatever this might be)? Leave it be, you will not make a game better by buying mostly useless "stuff". A good game has to grow (read: develop) itself independently by getting frequent support in the sense of patches from the devs, free mod tools, hobby modders, mission creators etc. If you are asking me, this game is made for some longevity and a strong community and not for the fast money. That is also the reason why not everybody knows or likes the game anyway. So, my vote is strictly NO! I have to say that I am sorry, but essentially this thread makes no sense to me at all and I hope it is going to be locked soon. -
This might be something interesting to think about:

LocalVram - has anyone figured this out?
Jimmy the Saint replied to nuggetz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I do not know the difference of both parameters too. My graphic-hardware has offically 256MB. ArmAII configfile writes this: localVRAM=268435456; nonlocalVRAM=525074400; I guess the nonlocalVRAM is used from the windows swapfile? -
is my system powerful enough for arma2?
Jimmy the Saint replied to BronzeEagle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
ViperNL's information is correct, you are not there. The game will not run on your system. I would not take the affort and the time to download the demo. You can find the minimum and recommended system requirements on the ArmAII website. Beside that, I would ignore the post of Thr0tt. -
You can even listen to the (enemy) squad leaders giving commands to their soldiers.

AA setting not available in full game?
Jimmy the Saint replied to Yapab's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have compared the framerates in the demo which comes with a benchmark scenario. The result was the same as you are describing it. So instead of enabling AA, I am using a higher pixel fill rate (3d render size) then the actual screen resolution. -
ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
Jimmy the Saint replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
While there are many discussions like this one going on around the forum, people should not forget that there are also players who have almost no problems running the game or are not interested to read threads like this one. At a whole, my opinion is that no matter how new or "ueber" your system is that as long as it cannot cope with the operating system, other hardware, drivers etc. it might aswell get conflicts with the game and the game itself which sure might have some flaws aswell can bring up new trouble and can cause new problems like crashes to desktop. The newest hardware is not always the best hardware. Why do you think the game was rushed out too fast? What the about that piece of hardware you bought yesterday? It could be released too fast aswell and now it could be causing all the problems with the operating system, drivers (and so on) which may not support your newest hardware properly yet? How much hardware has been released ever since which caused problems at all, were bugged or even defect? I leave the counting and naming to you. -

Interface & 3D Resolution
Jimmy the Saint replied to nominesine's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
A higher 3d resolution (above 133 percent) can be a good alternative to AA which might use more system resources. -
AA setting not available in full game?
Jimmy the Saint replied to Yapab's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
there are two ways to achieve an AA effect - one by enabling the AA via the option in the graphic menu at a high cost of system rescources or the second way by changing the graphic to a higher 3d resolution (something with a pixel fill rate higher then 100 percent) -
For those with powerful machines still unable to play ArmA II
