    This is about as interesting as it would be if I was at a random bar chatting up a stranger and they mentioned that they liked to play Arma. No sarcasm there because that would actually be really interesting to me since, who the hell plays Arma? A bunch of anal weirdos who get into arguments about cover vs. concealment? Well, nobody I've ever run into outside of the internet (not including a few people I have "shown the way"). Now I know that Robin Williams shares at least 2 of my 3 favorite hobbies. He plays Amra and loves bicycling. If he also rides a motorcycle, I'm gonna get freaked out.

  3. BlackAlpha, It worked! I followed your instructions exactly. The problem had something to do with the text format I was saving the .sqf files under! That's probably why my ACM stuff has not been working as well. I really appreciate your help and patience. So, I've created a mission where I have control over a 7 man squad + a Mi-24. Now the SOM missions are far enough away that helo transport actually makes sense. We load up into the Hind, and I look at the map to find a good LZ. The randomness of the SOM is great. Every mission I must decide from where and how close to approach, whether or not to use the Hind for air support or just transport etc. Throw in a FARP for repair/rearming/healing, and I've got a fun open ended mission. Good stuff.
  4. Blackalpha, I copied and pasted your text into my .sqf, and the missions still spawn right on top of me, plus they come within 30 seconds. Any ideas? I feel like I'm missing something really basic. execVM "somsettings.sqf"; is the only thing in my init.sqf , named my SOM BIS_SOM, synched (not grouped) to me, the sqd leader.
  5. ... so that I can tell which group is which? Example - I have three 4-man fire teams under my command. I want to know which one is the heavy AT group at a glance. The icons at the bottom of the screen all look the same. Is there a way to name them? Give them different colors other than blue at least?

    Put me down in the latter group. The lone, unaware AI guard not reporting me when I instantly and quietly take him out w/silent weapon at night has made a huge gameplay improvement for my sneaky-sneak missions. Way more fun/believable now.
  7. I'm trying to understand the code. Do your missions usually come every 300 seconds or so?
  8. Can't get it to work. The SecOP missions start and they're still within 500m of me. I've got 2 files in my mission folder, init.sqf and somsettings.sqf that have the text you gave me, but I erased 2 mission types and changed the distance to 1500 and 3000. I named my module BIS_SOM and synced it to my player unit/teamleader. Can anyone see something I've left out?
  9. Hey Darkone, will the SOM keep giving me random secondary missions if I do that? I don't want to include that for this particular mission.
  10. Thanks BlackAlpha. That's just what I was looking for. Can't wait to try it out tonite. What does this line mean? " _secOpSpacing = ((random 300) + 300 " I assume if I Just replaced the entire "((random 300) + 300" with "30", the SecOPS would always spawn 30 seconds after the last one ends.

  12. Anyone have a .sqf template that explains all the options? I've seen bits and pieces, but was wondering if there was a whole one. I basically need to customize every variable for a mission I'm making. I need to customize the spawned missions type, how often and how close they are.

    1.03 frustrations

    Question for everyone having overheating issues/extreme graphical glitches... Are you using the Nvidia System Tools for the new drivers? When I used those, my card would not self adjust the cooling fan, and my card overheated. After removing tools and drivers and then reinstalling drivers only, it worked fine. BTW, Haven't played for more than 30 minutes total, just 2 quick missions, but I haven't yet noticed any major differences with the 1.03 patch other than some units set on GUARD waypoints show up to the party a little sooner than they used to. Haven't tested any stealth missions yet, looking foreward to that. I did notice some textures take even longer to load, as others have mentioned. My system : Q8200 @2.33GHz, 4GB 1.33 GHz RAM, GTX260 190.xxWHQL, Win XP 64bit
  14. In Arma1, you could set each squad type (armor, AA, AT, motorized, etc.) Is there a way to do this in Arma2? I don't appreciate the squads making this decision on their own.

    Most AI you've gotten to play at once

    With my machine, WinXP 64bit, Q8200 quad core @2.33GHz + 4GB 1.33GHz RAM, about 500 units on the map is playable (5% are ground vehicles), unless I put them all close to each other. When that many units are fighting, the FPS get down to unplayable levels. Too many bullet trajectories to calculate, I guess.

    That sounds like a very good guess. Now I remember seeing one in that large northern costal village. I didn't know they were in use during the Yugoslav wars. That's very interesting. Before I knew that, I was impressed that German Ausf IV tanks were used in the 6 Day War during the mid '60s.

    Can I change my vote to the T-34? I mean, I can't believe they put it in there. It's incredible, and I love the T-34, but it's so out of place. What? did the insurgents steal it from the Chernorussian Museum of the Great Patriotic War? I guess it's conceivable that one could be made battle ready, and they were used by many countries well after WWII, but a T-55 would've made more sense. ...so bring on the Eastern Front mods!

    1. So, from what I've gathered, setting which factions in the sqf file has no effect on the ACM. My mission that should only have GUE and INS still had a Russian BTR90 show up to the party uninvited. Has anyone found a way to make this work? 2. Is the proper name for the independent side GER or GUE or GUR? I've seen it all of those ways. Of course, right now it's a moot point because I don't know how to configure the ACM anyhow. I want to get this config to work. It really is gonna make 3 of my missions just about perfect.

    AI gunners auto-selecting weapons...

    The fire control for the helos has got me down as well. Didn't have these problems in Arma1. The switching weapons is maddening, but also, the gunner doesn't seem as eager to target and fire at infantry as he should. I was supporting an assault on a village in my AH-1, hovering about 500m out. I could clearly see enemy inf. advancing and my gunner just sat there. Yes, I had given the "fire" command. In Arma1, he would have been raining death on them, 20mm at a time. So I give up and turn on manual fire, switch to rockets, only to have him decide hellfires would be a better option. I should have landed the chopper and executed him on the spot (no, not really). Could someone please script a spanking for this insubordination? Unrelated Question: In RL, an AH-64, the gunner is usually the one in command. He tells the pilot what to do. Is the same true for an AH-1 crew? I always thought it would be cool if you could control the pilot from the gunner pos., much like you can a tank driver from the commander pos. . Give simple commands like slow down, fly lower, stop, pop-up, etc. But given the AI, that is never gonna happen.

    Yeah, the damage/penetration model is weird... But at 300m, a 5.56 bullet has lost alot of energy. It is a very small high velocity round and gets weak really quick. It would not be unrealistic for someone to absorb 2 hits like that without going down, if they were really motivated to not go down (ie. running for cover from a hail of gunfire). If it happens everytime you shoot someone at that distance, well that is a problem.
  24. Likewise, you can just create a manned helo, put a move waypoint activated by radio etc. almost right on top of it. The helo will just sit on the ground and not move until you call it.
